Overall a good experience , except for the rude receptionist

The view from our room was very scenic. The hotel staff were very helpful except for the receptionist Karen. We stayed there for 6 days ,on the last day we requested her if we could leave 1 hour late due to a planned activity (we bought the ticket for the activity at Aston kaanapali) ,she bluntly refused saying it was a hotel policy and we have to check out before 12 pm . She went out of the way answering the queries and helping the white customers who were ahead of me in the line , she was cold when it came to answering my queries (I'm a south asian). The other receptionists were very helpful. We checked out at around 8 am on 13 Jan ,request to here was made at around 7am.I have stayed in many hotels all over USA, never has a hotel refused to extend the stay by an 1 hour or 2 and if the room .If its a official policy at Aston Kaanapalli then I would never want to come back nor would I recommend this place to anyone.

A beautiful condo hotel, good location and amenities

My husband and I just returned from our second stay at the Aston Mahana (12/17-12/31/2016), and our 7th trip to Maui. This time we rented unit #1204 directly from the owner via The Mahana is a terrific condo property, and every unit has a direct ocean-front-facing lanai/balcony. The view from every room is terrific. You can watch the whales breaching, the turtles swimming amongst the coral bed in front of you. One morning a pod of dolphins (I'd guess 40) swam in unison by us heading North. Unit #1204 is a one bed, one bath unit on the top floor. Updated, clean and modern, the kitchen is fully stocked (right down to all the spices and grilling tools) and meets all the needs you could have. The unit also has beach chairs and towels, beach umbrellas, etc. The king bed is very comfortable, the unit has a full sized washer and dryer too. The only challenge is that the Mahana property has a smaller than average pool and adjacent/small hot tub. We were somewhat frustrated that every time we wanted to use either regardless of time of day, both were filled with kids and teens, with little to no room for adults. We stayed at Christmas time, so it stands to reason there was more use of both. The Mahana property has a posted quiet time from 10pm - 8am, which seemed to be honored. So this property is not for partiers, but rather those looking for a relaxing stay. I highly recommend it.

Lovely place to stay!

This property was a great choice for us. There were 4 of us - my husband and myself, our teenage son and my mother-in-law. We stayed in a large 2 bedroom/2 bath unit that was clean, well appointed and modern. It had absolutely everything we needed. Best of all was the amazing beachfront ocean view (which I believe all units in this property have). Spent our afternoons whale watching from our balcony! No restaurant at this property but we received 10% off at the restaurant at the Kaanapali Shores resort next door. Also very closely located (within walking distance) to a large grocery store and a strip mall that housed a few small restaurants (a wonderful pizza place, in particular). Parking spaces at this property are plentiful. Excellent wifi. The only (minor) downside to this property was the small pool area (in comparison to other resorts and hotels nearby) and there is no swimming in the ocean directly in front of the property. We didn't have a lot of interaction with the staff, but what little we did was positive. Everyone seemed quite friendly. All in all, we were very pleased with our stay at the Royal Mahana and would definitely stay here again and we certainly recommend it to anyone else.

Best views in Maui

We stayed in a one-bedroom condo on the 9th floor in Dec 2016. I can't say enough good things about this property! The resort is about 30 yards away from the ocean, making the sounds of the surf so close and so loud it was better than any sleep machine I have used. The living room has floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the ocean. The bedroom has a floor-to-ceiling sliding glass door - both the bedroom and living room open to the lanai. The lanai was huge. The kitchen was updated and fully equipped. The shower was large and updated. The vanity was in a separate space, and had plenty of room for storage. There was a washer and dryer in the unit; the resort provided detergent. There were light dimmers throughout, allowing for any mood. A cross breeze was attained by opening the front door and the window in the kitchen. There is a ventilated pocket door that affords privacy between the front door and the living space. The staff was helpful and gracious. They gave us wine and chocolate when we checked in as a honeymoon gift. On Christmas day, one of the staff was dressed as Santa and he delivered cookies. The property was very clean, the pool and hot tub looked amazing (although I didn't use either), there is a lending library in the lobby - so if you love to read like me, skip packing the books and just borrow some during your stay. We were there during in-season peak, and we had difficulty finding parking one night - I doubt that is the norm. We saw humpback whale blows/spouts and Spinner dolphins from our lanai. And beautiful rainbows! I would definitely recommend this property to anyone who seeks the comforts of home while enjoying the amazing views of the Pacific. Mahalo!

Aston Mahana has ocean front studiosthat are clean and quiet and we'll stocked kitchen. It is an old hotel and the rooms/bathrooms and mattress/pillow need updating, but comfortable. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Key for us was oceanfront. It is as close as you can get without falling in.amazing views. Surfers right out your window. Good size patio, free parking. Shopping is walking distance. Great location.
