We loved the Mahana for the spectacular ocean front view, and the comfortable, spacious rooms. We booked a premium one bedroom room and were upgraded to a premium two bedroom/2 bath. The kitchen was really well appointed. We did find that the location was quite windy in October - not sure if that is normal or not. But more sheltered beaches with great snorkelling are just a short walk away.
The Aston Mahana was absolutely the perfect spot to stay on Maui. It is a mid-size property directly on the water in a very convenient location to great restaurants, shops, beaches, etc. One side of the unit is all glass and the balcony is glass too so you have a 100% ocean view. (I would watch the sea turtles in the water every morning - awesome!). We stayed in an efficiently with full kitchen, washer and dryer, etc. and my parents and friends were in a 2 bedroom which was HUGE! The property is beautiful and has a nice pool and hot tub. There is no restaurant but tons of options nearby (check out the Maui Farmers Market grocery store which is great and Miso Phat on the lower road if you like sushi! Java Jazz across the street is a fun breakfast spot and Duke's which is a 2 minute walk is a nice more upscale place too!) We met a ton of people at the resort and had a blast! If you are looking for a laid back, relaxing home base to explore this amazing island - highly recommend! (If you book through Aston you get housekeeping, etc which was really nice and they have high standards for all of their managed units (these are all privately owned condos). I would suggest going that route. Aloha to all of the staff who are absolutely wonderful - Karen and Ara were particularly helpful to us!
When you book online you don't always know if the pics match what is reality, well this most certainly matched. It was outstanding. The facility was everything I wanted. Grounds were very well kept. Two grilling areas one poolside the other was in the garden area, we used garden grills 3 nights, great conversation area with guests from around the world! Pool area was not crowded, plenty of lounge chairs and very clean. Plenty of lounge chairs outside pool area in grass along the beach if you did not want the sand. Beach area is not large but it worked, we walked a very short distance and beautiful Kaanapali beach is at your doorstep! We stayed in room 618 and it was great. Great sunset views of the islands of Molokai and Lanai. Staff was very friendly. This is a resort hotel and privately owned condo building. I would say book a room at least on the sixth floor for better views and above the coconut palms.
My family and I were staying in Wailea (south Maui) this past June/July, and were visiting Lahaina town (west Maui) when a wild fire broke out, shutting down the only road and effectively cutting the island in half. There was no way in or out and all hotels were fully booked. After driving around with my wife, 4YO and 1YO and visiting literally a dozen hotels that were all booked solid, we stopped to get gas around 11:30pm. I was explaining our situation to a local security guard, and he suggested that we try the Mahana since its slightly off the beaten path. At first, the staff at the Mahana told us they were fully booked. But I begged them to see if there was anything they could do, and they agreed to let us rent a 2 bedroom/2 bath suite, that had a stove that wasn't installed yet. We promised not to use the stove and we didn't. After putting my kids to sleep, I went to find my parents, brother in law, and his wife and 2YO. No cell phone service or internet service anywhere on the west side. Finally, I found them sleeping on the floor at the local rec center, which had been set up as a temporary shelter. We made it back to Mahana by 1:00am and everyone had a bed!On top of all that, we woke up the next morning to a BEAUTIFUL west maui ocean view from our room. Talk about being saved in style.I want to thank the very kind and helpful staff @ the Mahana for their understanding. We truly appreciate it.
My room was 605 and it was a luxurious place to come home to each night. The view of the sea and the islands was lovely. The views of the sunsets from my balcony were spectacular. This unit had been recently renovated throughout. There was a full kitchen which was very well supplied. The two full bathrooms were also very modern . This a non smoking unit ( not even on the balcony) Maximum two people staying. The unit was cleaned every day. All the staff, especially in the reception , were efficient and very friendly. The location was right on the beach and away from the crowds of Kaanapali. No high end restaurants were within walking distance, Thrre is s large grocery store s short walk away and also a cafe for good breakfasts. Many people seemed to cook in their apartments, You would need a car to drive into town for night life. There is also a very convenient bus route close by if preferred.I highly recommend this lovely resort,
