Aston Maui Kaanapali Villas
- What's Included
This is a very large apartment complex on the beach. We stayed in Rm 211. The apartments are 1980s designed and look a bit dated, but comfortable. One very large bedroom with two Queen sized beds. Four adults/people could stay in the apartment - but in one bedroom - a bit weird. Shower and toilet in tiny room - literally impossible to use both facilities at once. Need to dry yourself in the annexed hall. Separate vanity area. Strange design - but livable with two people, four would be challenging.Large pool and lovely gardens. Right on the beach - nice sand but drops away into the water quickly and the water gets deep within metres of the shore. Little waves. Nice view to the other islands. Because of the rapid water depth, small children couldn't play at the waters edge without you bedside them - they'd be over their heads within a few feet. Their is a small reef just up the beach for snorkeling. This resort is for older couples or young families, not in between. Our twenty-something children (and us) found it not to our taste. Makena surf was a far better location and less tourist-y with much less traffic to negotiate when driving to eat or shop AND a far better beach. But, it is clean, spacious and comfortable.
While this is not one of the fancier newer 5 star resorts, that's actually a good thing! It makes for a much more island style experience - much quieter, less crowded and peaceful. And, there is a trolley that runs all day that will take you to other spots for dining or shopping. On arrival, we were greeted by Misty, she was amazing! So sweet and super helpful!! The grounds are well maintained and very pretty. Staff is great, rooms are cleaned daily and they did a great job. We were in the Banyan building - I will include a map of the resort so you get an idea of the layout. We had a Garden View, which was really just a view of a hedge between us and the street, but much better than the Dumpster view some had at the back, along with highway noise. Our studio was clean and spacious, with a full kitchen. The bathroom was very large with double sinks. No washer or dryer, but there is a laundromat on the premises - 2.50 wash/dry. There is a separate pool between the Banyan and Coconut Buildings and we highly recommend the hot tub! The beach is very nice and clean and perfect for that romantic walk! The on site restaurant, The Castaway, was good - right on the beach, great food and service. Overall, a good spot for Kaanapali.
Excellent in every way. Very friendly, helpful staff. Everything was spotless. Located on a beautiful area of the beach, and connected to walking trails that led to local shops and restaurants. I would definitely stay here again, and would highly recommend It.It doesn't get any better than this.
I stayed in the coconut building (2nd fl). It was a bedroom loft. The upstairs loft had the bed and bathroom/shower. The main floor has the living room (sofa with pullout bed), updated full kitchen, dining area, and another bathroom with shower. The bathroom on the main floor is quite large as the sink is separate from the toilet and shower . It makes for a good size dressing room with a large mirror sliding closet (safe deposit box inside). We had daily housekeeping which included a coffee package you can make or if you were too lazy, walk to the reception area where coffee, tea, chocolate mix was available in the mornings. The condo has a balcony that overlooks the garden with a hint of sea view. You are at the far end of the property to the beach access and to Castaway restaurant. (Approx 1.5-2 blocks). There is a pool just outside the building. The condo is located beside the highway with parking in the back. You can hear the highway if you are at the back of the kitchen near the entrance. Otherwise, noise was not an issue. The property is older but well kept. The beach walkway connects the hotel to other hotels in the area. Great beach in front of the property. Snorkelling is good about 100 yards to the north.
This resort is nestled among larger, newer resorts. There is one 6 story building with privately owned studio, 1 and 2 bedroom condos. Many other condos are in two story buildings which have a more intimate feel and have easy access to the pools and beach. We stayed in a remodeled, oceanside unit and had a delightful stay. The Castaway Restaurant, on site, is one of the area's hidden secrets. There is a shuttle service that stops here and will take you to Whaler's Village. Highly recommend this resort!
