Aston Maui Kaanapali Villas
- What's Included
Just returned from a week long trip. Originally booked a studio garden view but because of the inconvenient location we were given across the street, we paid extra per night to be moved closer to the beach and main pool. Nothing was available on the second floor or in the tower which would have had a nicer view. They will let you check out different rooms which i thought was very nice of them. The pools were nice. Unfortunately each pool was surrounded by a fence with trees and bushes blocking any view of the pool. So being on the ground level next to the pool was not as nice or inviting as it sounds. You just see this wall of plants. The gardens are still beautiful though with lots of loungers in the grassy area overlooking the beach. If you like sitting out on the patio or balcony in the morning i would avoid the building on the left that's on the same side and nearest to the restaurant. You will end up watching a steady stream of sweaty people run, jog, or walk by on the beach walk which crosses the property.Having said that, we would not hesitate to go back. The location is great!! Down a few yards is one of the best snorkeling spots with clear water and lots of fish, with easy access from shore. You can find a shady spot under the many trees that line the beach. It's referred to as old airport beach. You can also walk or take the free shuttle to whalers village or the Sheraton and black rock.
The Aston Maui Kaanapali Villas are nice. I'm in a garden view studio right now and i wouldn't change a thing. Now, you'll see the neighboring hotels with their elaborate pools and fanciness. Heck, one up the way has caves and penguins. But they are all quite crowded. And if you love a high energy level at your resort, this place may not be for you. For me, having great views, good food, nice rooms, and the pool all to myself at 9am... Well, it has been wonderful.
Although it's not a 5 start resort in the glamorous sense, it was a total win for us during our stay here. The beach is the nicest out of all the resorts. It's more sheltered so the waves never got too crazy and it wasn't as busy as past black rock point. There's a really nice area of coral just up the beach a bit that's great for snorkelling. The trolley that runs from some of the resorts into whalers village was a huge bonus. The grounds were lush and tropical and always well kept as well as the pool area. The castaway cafe on the grounds had great food and great service. They made the best piña coladas. It had a Hawaiian charm about it that was totally what I was looking for. We all agreed that we had the nicest resort. There are plenty of super fancy expensive resorts but as for affordable but still amazing, this should be your number one choice.
DO NOT LEAVE YOUR LUGGAGE WITH THE FRONT DESK. We had jewelry stolen from our luggage from their supposedly "secure" and "locked" baggage lobby closet where they kept our luggage for the day. Its our fault for leaving expensive stuff in our luggage. At the very least, lock your luggage before checking it in.
July 2017-- We stayed for 7 nights in a studio with a king size bed, 1st floor, garden side, in the "Coconut" building. Kitchen is included, as well as a good size bathroom. (+) the pluses:- Good size studio with kitchen, king-size bed, round table with chairs, armchair, and couch that can be made into a bed at night. Perfect for a group of 4. - Kitchen is a must in Hawaii as groceries are super expensive!- You have a short orientation on your first morning where the staffs tells you about the hotel and the activities you can do during your stay. It's pretty useful info, and they offered coupons and good deals too. - 4 free complimentary postcards from the Hotel's store.- Sliding doors to patio with a table with 4 chairs. - Appliances, microwave, cooking ware, and dinnerware provided. I loved that cups, plates, and utensils were provided for more than 4 persons because two family members, who were staying at the Royal Lahaina came to eat with us often (they had no kitchen in their room). - Dish soap, sponge, paper towel provided- There is a dish washer if you are not into washing dishes by hand.- a whole unopened big box of Bounce drying sheet provided in the bathroom closet (not sure if it was from the hotel or left by the previous guest).- Laundry room nearby, $2.50 to wash, $2.50 to dry.- Spacious bathroom with big closet. Shampoo, conditionner, and one tiny-bar soap provided.- No bathtub, but a big shower.- Two swimming-pools at the hotel: the big one which includes a baby pool is closer to the beach, while the smaller pool with hot tub is on the opposite side ("garden side"). - Staff was friendly, helpful, and professional.- On top of your white bathroom towels, the hotel provides beach towels as well. Just return your used ones at the front desk and they'll exchange them as often as you need.- Beautiful landscaping throughout the site with tropical plants, trees, and flowers. - Plenty of drawers. - Room was clean, except for carpet (see under"minuses")- Wi-fi included and was working pretty well in the room. Wi-fi provided at the small pool too (I never checked the big pool).- Big screen TV with channels. - Ou room was 5 seconds from the swimming pool and hot tub (our patio was literally facing the pool), and 5 minutes from the beach.- Free parking included.(-) the minuses:- Room looked older and in need of repairs here and there. For instance, the curtains were broken. 1 or 2 feet were detached from the rail and were just hanging down. There were stains on the curtains all around the room. Some parts of the appliances were broken, but still functioning (ex: top part of toaster was missing, but it was still working).- The pan provided was not a non-stick, so it was impossible to cook anything without the food sticking to the pan (eggs, meat, veggies...anything!), even with oil used.- No baking ware was provided. We wanted to use the oven to broil some meat, so they brought us a baking tray.- Carpet was well-vacuumed, but would benefit from a good shampoo. - A broom was provided but no dust pan. When we asked for one, we were told to check the closet, on top. We did, but nothing there, so we asked again, and we were told the room service would take care of the sweeping. So, we would just leave the sweeping piles in a corner each day. - I wish there was a place where we could dry our wet swimming suits after coming back from the beach or from the pool. No convenient way or place to do it.- One day we were walking to our room from the patio side, and we saw a group of people in the swimming-pool and hot tub FULLY CLOTHED!!! That was gross. That should not be allowed. They were grown adults. - Yes, prices might be considered high, but the close location to one of the most beautiful beaches in the world has to do something with it. Overall, I think it was a very decent place even though not perfect. We had a very nice time, and we survived the broken stained curtains, and other minor setbacks. Tips for food:- Shop at Costco, closed to the Kahului Airport. Next time, we'll go there straight after picking up the car rental, right before driving to the hotel. Costco is at about 40 minutes from this hotel. There is a Safeway at about 10 min. driving distance, but the prices were simply shocking to us. Surprisingly, the prices at Costco were similar to the ones in the mainland. If you know of a better place where to get groceries, please share!
