Aston Maui Kaanapali Villas
- What's Included
I was a little apprehensive about the room after reading some reviews. The room was beautifully updated, the kitchen was nice with new appliances and the free wifi was exellent. The resturaunt was a little poor with the service. I'm glad we had a kitchen and cooked most of our meals there. The BBQ grill was awesome to cook steaks on. Very nice place!!! Overall the visit was very pretty and had amazing sights!
The Aston Kaanapali Villas is located among all the resorts in Kaanapali so the location is great. You can walk along the beach, get to all the resorts, get to Black Rock, etc. The resort itself is fine. The pool is clean and what you would expect of a resort of this rating. The room was a decent sized with a small kitchenette and full sized refrigerator/freezer. There was a king sized bed that was relatively comfortable, but the furniture needs some updating. Everything is a bit threadbare and worn, outdated and showing it's age. The housekeeping staff did a good job and was very friendly, as was the maintenance staff we ran into around the resort. It was a mixed bag with the reception staff. On arrival, we waited about 20 minutes in line to check in. Once we did meet with someone at the front desk, she was friendly and appeared efficient, but we realized she didn't check us in correctly when our room key stopped working 3 days into our stay. We had to wait in line again at reception to have the issue resolved. We had to deal with the front desk a couple of other times and had mixed experiences with them. I had reason to call there after our stay and left messages and never heard back. I finally gave up. The activities staff was probably our worst experience there. The staff at their booth was never friendly, didn't seem interested in renting equipment, dealing with the public, or engaging at all. Despite 3 attempts there, we never actually rented any equipment from them. So, why the average rating? The resort is in a good location with a comfortable room of decent size and some friendly staff at a "reasonable" price for the holiday season. Would we choose to stay here again? Probably not, but it's not the worst option in Kaanapali.
My friend and I stayed here for five days as a girls getaway. The beach is right there and it is a gorgeous beach that doesn't get too crowded. The nearby Westin and Sheraton cost almost 2x as much, so it's a great value. Rooms were clean, had kitchens, and the pools were clean and pleasant too. It's an older property so don't expect to be wowed by decor or pool features. The onsite restaurant was adequate but nothing to write home about. We were really happy with our choice of hotel though. It cost a lot less than other fancier options, but the location, lack of crowds and cleanliness made that choice a sound one. Will be back!
We were celebrating our 30th anniversary and booked a studio ocean view. Upon arrival we found that the ocean view was a real stretch. More of a parking lot, tennis court view with a bit of ocean if you looked through the trees. The room was VERY dated with old carpet and a murphy bed. After expressing our concern to the front desk we were offered another studio, a good bit nicer with the same basic view and what they called a one bedroom on the top floor. The one bedroom was separated by a folding dividing wall so its a stretch to call that a one bedroom. The ocean view was better but it was certainly not a direct view of the beach as most would expect. You were looking across the parking area in front of the hotel through trees even with a top floor unit. We chose the 1 bedroom top floor and had to pay the difference. These are apparently individually owned and each unit can be dramatically different as far as furniture and appliances. Lanai is non existent in the upper tower rooms. The whole complex is clean and livable but very dated. Parking is very limited. Fitness room is sad. With that said after we settled in we found a few positives about the property. It is very convenient to most of the attractions in the area. The laundry room is convenient. Gift shop and sundry store was handy. It doesn't have the nice comfy pool chairs that the larger resorts up the street have but the pool area and restaurant was much less crowded and the beach access is much better. The staff was attentive and helpful. Room was quiet. Beds and were very comfortable even though we weren't expecting to have separate beds to celebrate our anniversary but it was apparently all that was available. I wasn't a fan of the restaurant but my wife liked the burgers. Prices weren't bad and orders came pretty quick. All in all I would recommend the property just be careful which unit you get.
I needed a last minute booking in Kaanapali and ended up someplace without A/C. As I was searching for a new room and not finding anything in my range, Donna replied to an inquiry on VRBO so I immediately called her. After hours, she and her husband were both a huge help finding me a room at MKV - which also happens to be my favorite place to stay. When I arrived, MKV upgraded me to a recently remodeled 1 bedroom, thanks again to Donna, and it was beautiful. Donna went above and beyond calling to confirm with me the next day and the hotel the day I arrived. She also sent me her Local Girls Guide To Maui and made a great recommendation for a Pacific Whale Foundation tour as well as some restaurants. I highly recommend her MauiCalls Travel Agency AND Aston Maui Kaanapali Villas (this was my 10th stay there) and plan to work with Donna again for future trips. You will be in good hands with both choices.
