Aston Maui Kaanapali Villas
- What's Included
A-List Insider "perks" is bait and switch. There are no upgrades, no welcome gift. We couldn't even get the king bed rooms we reserved at booking. Garden view mostly faces the parking lot. Rooms are old and run down; in serious need of updating. Two of our rooms had roaches. TV and lights didn't work properly in one room. When reported at front desk, we were hushed to keep other guests from hearing and told nothing could be done until staff arrived later in the morning. The $20 daily resort fee provides access to a fitness center that is run down and unsanitary. No wipes to remove sweat from equipment. Worst is the cat traps. We reported a cat caged and left in direct sun for 4+ hours without food/water. Understand the desire to keep cats off the property, but call the Humane Society! Worker we reported to couldn't have cared less. We booked 6 rooms for a family vacation and used them to shower and sleep only. No business center so plan to drive to Office Max.
We stayed here for two weeks in September and loved it! We are a family of four and our room was perfect for us. The full kitchenette was a plus. We spent a lot of time at the pool which the kids loved. It was especially nice having the beach only a few steps away. The sunsets were absolutely beautiful and not to be missed. My only complaint is that the maid service did not empty our trash on a few occasions and the cleaning was minimal. Otherwise, our stay was perfect. I would definitely stay here again.
What a gem property this hotel is! The building (Banyan and Coconut) are only two stories each and rooms are VERY spacious, well decorated, comfortable and with great views. Kitchens comes fully equipped and allows for rather sophisticated cooking. Wifi is superfast and with great connection even at the beach (!)The staff was very supportive and accommodative. The beach is clean, well kept and not crowded at any time. As there are no big hotels around, so you always feel yourself almost like resting at a private beach. Towels are always at supply and so are beach beds. Overall, that was one of the best resort experiences ever!
We are staying in the Emerald Building in a ground floor studio Unit 188. It is very comfortable. Our lanai looks out on a wonderful garden. We are only steps from the swimming pool. The grounds are well kept and the buildings nicely maintained. You would never know the place is 50 years old.
I must say, after extensive research on many properties, we landed here even though as usual there was a mixed bag on reviews.I am happy to say that we LOVED our stay here from start to finish. The property itself is very well kept up and each day we could see employees working hard from housekeeping to maintenance, to grounds to all of the front desk staff. Everything about the four night stay itself was wonderful and the room/apartment we were in was fantastic. We booked a 'premium' room, as everything we read indicated those were upgraded within the last couple of years. When we checked in they told us they had upgraded us to an 'ocean view' with a King. We were concerned at first because there were three of us and we were counting on the 2 queen set up. They assured us they would provide a roll-away bed but also went a step further to give us a key to the upgraded room (in the Dolphin building), along with another room that had 2 queens (in the tower). We went with the lovely room in the Dolphin, it was absolutely gorgeous with a lanai overlooking the pool area. Okay it was a BIG stretch for them to call it "ocean view"... you could see a piece of the ocean if you leaned over the balcony a bit but nonetheless the view we had was peaceful and lovely. I could gush for a bit about the accommodations, if I ever came back I would try and book this exact room. The pool and beach - awesome. The pool is large... actually I think there are two pools on property but the one closest to us was large with a little bridge going over it towards the Castaway Cafe. There is a large hot tub/jacuzzi and a pretty large wading pool. The beach is RIGHT there... from all of the buildings. They have rentals for stuff in a little hut as well. What I loved is that there were not a ton of people on the beach and it was great for swimming. I met a guy at the Castaway outdoor bar that had walked down to our section of the beach from the Westin, as he said it was much better. Finally Castaway Cafe serves up some pretty good grub and cocktails. It was nice having a full kitchen in our room, but even nicer to get a good meal or drink right on property. If I ever get back to Maui, I will stay here again.
