Hyatt Regency Maui
- What's Included
Our first time in hawaii! The hotel is so beautiful! The animals they have, the pinguins, the birds, the swans and everything! We really enjoyed our time there and the views! The staff was always great and kind, that is a plus! They where always smiling! so we recommend it!
We went to Hawaii every year for the last 4years (island we've been to: Oahu, Big Island & Kauai) and this is our first trip to Maui (ever). We have been to Hawaii >10times.Yes, the hotel is on the older side and the room might benefit from a little updating (like there was a big empty hole in the mini fridge cabinet, for which I think was use for a larger mini-fridge from before, it might help to put some shelf or drawer to help store stuff ) However, the room decor do kept to a true island feel. I don't really think the current hotel trend of cold & contemporary looks will work in Maui. Our room was on the 1st floor of Napili tower facing the Hyatt time share pool. My 6years old announce it was the best hotel room ever when we walked in. You can just walk across the grass to the pool and don't even need to save a pool side chair! (I guess she forgot we did have a swim-up suit in Cabos 4yrs ago) The AC works very well, but too well that it is suppose to shut off when the sliding door open, but it didn't. I hope they will fix it to help save some energy. The shaved ice stand onsite was heavenly, but it only open until late afternoon like 5pm. We were hopping to get some shaved ice after dinner but was very disappointed. The Honolulu coffee bar was pretty bad and expensive (2 pieces of pastry & 1 large coffee = 22$) Recommend going to the Lahaina provision in the Residence club side on breakfast items. The only lunch option at the resort is Umalu the other 2 restaurant (Sancourt/Son'z and Japengo) closed for lunch, the food was ok but gets pretty crowd because this is the only place for sit down lunch in the resort (unless you want to eat at the pool bars and there are 3 of them). If you want cheap eats, go to Whaler Village down the street, they have a good food court there. The Drum of Paradise Luau was good (fire knife), but the food was pretty bad. We only went because my daughter want to see fire knife. We love our trip & hotel so much we are already planning on returning before we leave. We didn't get to do the tour of the star at the hotel because of cloud so hopefully next trip we will get to see it. Can't wait! The lava tub water slide really make our trip. Make sure you have the current wrist band. They will send you away to get the band before sliding, we have ours, but my daughter didn't get her the first day because I though it is only for pool towel service we have do walked her down to get her :| The kid place area has some "pebbles' sand really rough on the feet, I wish they can use some other material.
The Hyatt grounds are beautifully maintained and the walkways through the property a real treat to explore. The black swamps and wildlife were a joy to watch. The hotel itself needs some updating. The breakfast room/evening dining restaurant is light and airy however the netting to keep wildlife out was a bit disconcerting.and needed to be changed out for something new. The breakfast buffet was filled with many choices and we enjoyed it daily. I would recommend that you opt for the daily breakfast plan to be included in your reservation when booking or you will be paying a lot to eat there daily. The other 2 dining areas were rather fair andtheir restaurant prices were high for the experience of dining in one of 3 dining areas. The main negative issue I had was the swimming pool. The pool is large. To enter the pool if you want to use the stairs is located in the grotto where there is a depressing looking bar. Once you walk down the steps into the swimming pool in order to get to the main pool with the sunshine you are forced to pass under a ten foot waterfall that drenches you and your hair!! I really disliked this feature! The other way to enter is to jump in or use the pool ladder or use the electric lift for the handicap....this feature was a true negative for me and I see no reason why stairs have not been added to this huge pool. They do offer a kids pool with steps into it...but as a senior I did not like getting splashed by children and their adults who watched over them. The room staff was most friendly and left our room in perfect shape daily. The balcony table was chipped and cracked but the outdoor chairs were comfortable. The front desk staff was friendly upon our arrival at midnight. The vallet staff always quick and attentive. The resort fee is steep as well as the parking so budget this into your overall cost of your stay. This is paid directly to the hotel upon departure. With the resort fee you receive "free" wifi!Overall our 8 day stay was most relaxing and that is what we were looking for in our vacation only we had hoped for a bit more of a 4+ star rating as the web site had seemed to indicate it was to be.
Beautiful hotel - spacious rooms. Nice pools - separate kids area. Would have enjoyed having chairs, umbrellas on beach. Breakfast options were pricey - a la carte items expensive which made buffet purchase more practical - but expensive.
Family of 4: 2 kids ages 6/9Overall, Id say 3.5 stars. Hotel was nice, great pool (limited seating, get your chairs early), be sure to go down the lava tube slide, food was above average, staff were excellent and friendlier than most. Our room wasn't great. Room 430 Nipili Tower: Pros:Beds pretty comfortable, view outstandingCons: room needs a serious upgrade; A/C unit not working properly (set to 65f on all day but room temp never dropped below 72f), wallpaper peeling, fridge wire rack broken, knob fell off cabinet when opeining. Overall just dated and worn. No usb ports like other places, bathroom small with no fan, so you might want to hold back on the fiber if you're staying with someone your're not committed to. overall, above average stay and if you're not planning on camping out in the room, and prefer to go outside and play, this is a great spot. Thanks!Dub D
