Hyatt Regency Maui Resort and Spa
- What's Included
Overall we enjoyed our time here but this property has a lot of issues. Hyatt is wasting prime real estate with this mediocre property. The grounds are very nice and the views are amazing. There's plenty to do and see here to keep a family enterained for a long trip. With that said it was frustrating that so much potential was there but the resort was not at the level you would expect when looking for a "luxury" resort. A significant amount of space is devoted to peddling their time shares. The pools are kept cold and chairs tightly crammed together. You are issued towel cards and need to worry about not losing those during your stay or be threatened with being charged for towels. At $600 a night I should not need to worry about keeping track of my families towel usage. Resort fees are a constant frustration in the hotel industry and this hotel is no expection to that. The bell person that brought our bags to our room was very nice, he offered to have our sofa bed put away in the morning and taken out in the evening. We accepted, but it only actually happened one day we were there. The rooms are old and beat up as others have mentioned. Staff was average, they did not go out of there way to do more than the basics. One of us was celebrating a birthday while staying there. I noted it on the reservation but didn't even get a Happy Birthday at the front desk. I would probably would pick another resort next time I wanted to stay on Kaanapali Beach unless the hotel goes through a significant overhaul.
We booked a king bed and were given a room beside the elevator and ice machine above the driveway. We had explained we were on our honeymoon and were up at 3am that morning having to change our entire itinerary due to flooding in kauai (deciding to go to Maui instead). We were moved to a ground floor room which was ok (but required us to spend 25minutes at the front desk and changing rooms). We were planning on having breakfast at the hotel the morning after and had to stop at the front desk to fix an issue with our bill (which should have been taken care of). When asked by Sean about how our stay was we just shared our experience with him that we expected to get a better room. He needs to be trained about customer service at a retail level let alone at the 'Hyatt' level that we have come to expect. He disagreed with our comments that the service was poor. At one point he even said 'If you say so' and shrugged. I'm now sure who trained him but there needs to be something said to him about how to treat customers that are spending $600/night. We asked to speak with the manager at the time who said he would be reprimanded.... We decided to have breakfast elsewhere are this experience has left a very bad taste in our mouth and we will think twice before ever booking a Hyatt hotel again in the future. Very poor response to our concerns.
Our room had a great view, but was dated and it was dirty. During our stay there were trays with dirty dishes, empty pizza and pastry boxes in the corridor. It seemed like there were more people selling time shares instead of working on the upkeep of the inside of the hotel. We passed on eating at the steak house after reading reviews on Yelp. We don't recommend the meal package for breakfast, it's not worth the money. Another guest suggested we go to the Marriot next door. Pros: Staff was fabulous throughout the hotel. The best food we ate was at the Umulua bar. Not just typical bar food; calamari, sliders, and ahi were great.
I’m a little late with writing this. Our stay at the Maui Hyatt Regency was in late October early November. We love the Maui Hyatt Regency. This was a return stay. After staying here the prior year, we loved it so much we decided to come back and stay longer. We stayed for 11 nights and had a blast. We had a nice front ocean view room in the main tower. The service was great from the time drove up and checked in at guest receiptions. We loved the staff at Umalu the last time and decided to start there this trip and was pleased to see some familiar faces. The service was fast and the food was good. The nachos, chicken salad, fish and chips and the Mai Tais were great! But the people made the experience worth spending each day there. Mana, Jerome, Rhoda, Daniela, Litisha, and Royce were wonderful and so hard working. They were always professional and yet friendly. They took the time to make us feel like we were family. Their wasn’t a day that they didn’t make us feel special. And again because of our experience the prior year we went back to Japengo. The food was good and the sushi was so fresh. But again the service was outstanding. Being greeted by Lei Ann and/or Joy, who were so pleasant and personable was a nice start to dinner. After having Jeffrey as our server the first night and having him recommend a couple of food choices which were perfect. We returned a couple more times. Sometimes we just hung out for the drinks and entertainment. We started every morning off enjoying the buffet at Swan Court looking out at the swans and ducks. And again we were greeted with a big welcoming smile from Ludi, who always remembered our names. Which made us feel special. We were seated either in Esther’s or Dee’s section. Esther has been working for the Hyatt for a long time and says that everyone there was like family to her. She in turn treated us like family. She was always warm and pleasant. I missed her the day after we returned home. Dee was funny. When we sat in her section we started the morning laughing non stop. Every morning was a good morning thanks to the staff at Swan Court. And last but not least, we have say thank you to Nesi Kuresa. Nesi worked with the wedding catering department. Although we did not have a need to use that department Nesi was someone we friended on our trip the prior year at Umalu and was looking forward to seeing again. Nesi always made an effort to find us on the resort somewhere to say hello and help us with all things Hyatt. Now, to sum up out vacation at the Hyatt Regency. We had a BLAST. Thanks to the PEOPLE!Mahalo🌺
BEAUTIFUL hotel and property. We loved out week there. Everyone was very polite and enjoyable. Restaurants were very good. Convenience store had a great variety of things, but spendy, as expected. Suggest a full ocean view. Fortunately, we qualified for a conference rate, which made it possible.
