This review is directed at vacation rental condo #307 in building 9 at Kamaole Sands Resort, 2695 S Kehei Road, Kehei, HI. The resort itself is very pleasant, the office staff helpful and the grounds immaculately kept... definitely a 4 star rating. We rented condo #307 in building 9 for a stay on short term notice. We would have tried to change condos but there were no vacancies during our time period. While quite reasonably price the condo itself could use some terribly needed TLC. The kitchen was advertised as "updated" while it is little more than maple grained contact paper over the old cabinets. The toaster MUST be replaced as it has a short. The bedroom, while having a fairly comfortable bed, the bedspread and shams are worn and the pillows terrible (little more than lumps). In addition both lampshades in the bedroom need replacing as the shade spokes are broken leaving the shade to flop over on the lightbulb-serious fire hazard! Both baths have the same "updated" cabinets and the water for both showers extremely hard to turn on. The toilets need updating or at least new floats as they tend to run, wasting water. Finally the living room, where the cushions on the sofa are ripped and worn (which they tried to hide with a several pillows). The lanai is nice with a very small ocean view, but the patio door sticks and the screen is torn and ripped, allowing insects into the condo. I submitted these items to the office upon leaving so hopefully they have been passed along to the owner and addressed accordingly.
The setting is wonderful and is right across the street from the beach. Please note these are individual units/condos in Kamaole Sands so each of the units will/may be furnished differently. The units are older (some are being remodeled). The air conditioning in the unit wasvia a window type unit (installed thru the wall) as opposed to a newer model thru the wall AC which would probably be quieter and provide better air distribution. Although the window type unit was adequate since the were several standalone fans in the unit, with that said the AC was adequate for the room but noisy. Being older the unit needs someone to go through it and tighten up drawer pulls/knobs, some towel racks are loose, loose door knobs, nothing that is a showstopper just minor irritants. There are beach toys (sand stuff for small children, boogy boards, sun umbrella, basic snorkel stuff in different sizes, folding chairs etc.) in the lanai closet or storage box (depends on the your unit). The pool is very clean and well kept up.The fitness center is basic with some weights, treadmill and an elliptical machine, benches and mats.Overall Kamaole Sands is a very good value for the price.
We rented this unit for 10 days and found it satisfactory to our needs. Two bedrooms, one with a king bed and the other with two twins. Master had an in suite bathroom and this was great. Fold out couch was comfortable for our 21 yr. old. Kitchen had everything one needed. Lanai was great to sit in the morning and watch the different birds. Everything worked and the unit was nice. Swimming pool was excellent, big with plenty of room. The grounds were very well maintained and beautiful. Kamaole park 3 is right across the street and there is some pretty good snorkeling there.
Overall a very comfortable setup. Convenient to many beaches, short walk to shops and dining. The first time my wife has been to Hawaii, so it impressed. Will definitely be added to the list of places we will return to.
I booked this stay through Hotels dot com and many other family members rented through VRBO. The hotel owns 100 units out of this huge condo complex. Other family members had lovely rooms, ours was dated and filthy. As soon as we walked in there was signs to remove shoes, no problem as we don't wear shoes in our home either. Within 20 minutes we happened to notice our feet were black because the floor was so dirty. The bathroom mirrors and glass table tops were so dirty we bought our own glass cleaner to clean up. Dare ask the front desk for garbage bags or laundry soap they will charge you for anything you ask for. No maid service and nothing in the condo other then salt and pepper. The Lanai looked as the the. Loser had not been accessed in years, the two beach mats in the closet were so old they were shredded and I picked up a pei w of it and it crumbled in my hand. I asked the front desk if they could replace them and as I expected by the dumb founded look I got it was a no. We bought some at the general store up the street. If the room is being offered as a hotel room than offer maid service or any service of some sort, if it's a condo then there should be some amenities in the condo. Would I stay here again? You bet, the grounds are lovely and the VRBO condos are fantastic (just look at pictures before you book). I would book a condo through VRBO. What I won't do again is book through the hotel. I've stayed in far nicer rooms in Cuba.
