OverviewLocated across the street from the best swimmable beach in Kihei, the Kihei Akahi is a fantastic value with comfortable accommodations. Spacious rooms & great location make this condominium resort a Canadian favourite.
Location: On South Kihei Road, across the street from Kamaole Beach Park II. Approximately 30 min from the Kahului airport.
My wife and I stayed here for 2 weeks Sept 2016. We both enjoyed our stay. Room we stayed in had washer/dryer, safe, ac, boogie boards. Kitchen was nice as we could reheat leftovers on stove. Nice that its a 2 minute walk to beach. We both found everyone very friendly from the lady who took care of our checkin. The maintenance guys who were always busy doing something. The grounds were in great shape. The security guards who were very nice. The only downside I can think of was there is a tray under the air conditioner to catch water. Had to empty the tray every few hrs when ac was on. Other then that would stay here again
We had a great stay here. We stayed in building D on the 5th floor. Our condo had a view of the back country and the ocean. Perfect for watching sunrise and sunset. Beach 2 is literally a 3 minute walk. And there are so many restaurants near Akahi. The grills at the pool were very handy. We grilled a couple of times which saved us a little bit of cash. The office called to check up to make sure everything was going good. But make sure you check in with the office when you arrive, or the next morning. If you have a car, they give you your parking permit. For sure staying here again next year!
We stayed in 3 condos in the Kihei Akahi over Christmas 2016 (208, 414 & 608) and it was wonderful. We think the Kihei Akahi is the absolute perfect location for any family travelling to Maui. Central to shopping and restaurants in Kihei and literally right across the road from a perfect family beach (Kameole 2). We would walk the 300 yds straight from our building at the back of the complex down to a spot on the beach about 10 each morning and stay until 1 or 2, when we needed lunch or a break from the sun. The wind picks up around 3 in the afternoon and sometimes the sand begins to whip up a bit, so there was always that to remind us to take a break. The waves are big enough to splash around and boogie board in, but nothing intense like Big Beach, which is only a 7 minute drive down the road. You can snorkel near the rocks at the far right end of the beach and will probably see more than a couple of turtles and fish - enough for beginners to enjoy. The Akahi is a 3 minute walk to Shave Ice and restaurants, and another 2 minutes to the ABC store for all of your corner store needs. Further up the road are many more restaurants and rental places for all the water equipment your heart desires. All suites have an ocean view, so we were treated to amazing sunsets every evening at dinner time. 208 and 608 are right beside the elevator and 414 is at the end of the corridor, right near the stairway. 208 was fantastic - newly updated and fully appointed. The others were older and less well appointed but still functional for our needs. 608 could do with an update - the washer/dryer are old but functional. All of the suites have their own wifi network and the closets had 3 or 4 beach towels, some beach chairs and even sun umbrellas - people also left their boogie boards and some infant PFDs in the closet. They come equipped with cleaning supplies too. In all three suites, the hide-a bed mattress was well past prime. However, the kids had no trouble sleeping. Each suite comes with a parking spot but there are additional visitor spots available if needed. We would give my 84 year-old mother-in-law a ride down to the beach and then park the car in a visitor spot until she wanted to go back up to the suite. The grounds are beautiful and the maintenance staff kept the 2 pool areas, the gas grills and the buildings immaculate (the elevators are probably swept every 1/2 hour at least). The office staff were super friendly and accommodating, full of helpful advice. I would rather spend our time stationed in Kihei than further down the road in Wailea - it is nowhere near as manicured and "perfect" but we came to Maui to have fun outside on the beaches rather than stroll around a golf course setting. We had better things to spend our money on than looking at a perfect lawn.I am sure that the next time we go back to Maui, we will certainly try to stay at the Maui Akahi.
I spent two weeks àt the Kihei Akahi condos from November 24th until December 8th 2016. The kitchen was updated beautifully and the furnishings were acceptable. There were beach chairs and boogie boards in the closet. Nice and quiet. I was right across from the beach, and the snorkeling was great. Downside? No free wifi on the property. Something I have never come across before. And no safe in the room. Leave all valuables at home. I was a little nervous about the passport I had to pack everywhere with me.
We stayed on the 4th floor of building D with a beautiful veiw of the Ocean. We had a 1 bwdroom that slept 4 and stayed for 2 weeks. One week with our daughter and son in law and one week with our adult son. I had read many reviews and this was our 7th stay on Maui. My focus is always on value and cleanliness. We always try to stay for at least 2 weeks so both are important. We don't need anything fancy but do require a good kitchen and a washer/ dryer to further stretch our time and budget. We felt so pampered! Our unit had been completely updated and was spotless. Eveeything was wonderful. As for the grounds, well manicured. Pool area was spotless. Pool is not heated but we felt spoiled for choice having 2 pools to choose from. We constantly saw staff cleaning and doing odd jobs to keep things above par. Our unit was just outside of the elevator and though there was a huge " quiet area" sign, people were very loud 24/7. Not a huge deal for us and having stayed many places with no elevator enjoyed having use of it. We were in a great area for walkable food and shopping. Excellent stay!
