OverviewLocated across the street from the best swimmable beach in Kihei, the Kihei Akahi is a fantastic value with comfortable accommodations. Spacious rooms & great location make this condominium resort a Canadian favourite.
Location: On South Kihei Road, across the street from Kamaole Beach Park II. Approximately 30 min from the Kahului airport.
We stayed at Kihei Akahi in October 2017. We were with a 3 year old. We were in building C on the 4th floor - 417. We had no issues with securing a parking spot. We arrived late at night and were provided with the door code via phone. The next morning, we drove to the office to get our information. Keep in mind that you must obtain your parking permit from the building office which is to your left when you enter the complex. While checking in is a short drive away from the complex. The location of the property is fantastic. You can walk to a number of restaurants, grocery stores, retail shops, coffee shop, etc. Our favourite place was Coconut's. We had seared ahi and poke bowls almost every night. The best part is that it is right across from some of the best beaches on Maui - Kamaole II and Kamaole III. We liked Kamaole III better because the water was a bit calmer. We also saw turtles there every day, at least a few a day. The unit was outdated, however, stocked adequately and very comfortable. The living/kitchen area is very spacious. There were plenty of towels, kitchenware, laundry and dishwashing detergent. The washer and dryer worked well. We had a nice view of the grounds. There is only one AC unit for the entire place and it is in the living room. If you have challenges managing some heat and humidity, sleeping in the bedroom can be a bit of a problem, however, there are plenty of windows that can be open that allow for a wonderful breeze. We never felt uncomfortable. The temperatures were around 28 to 32 C degrees during the day.Overall, a great stay. For our next trip to Hawaii, we are planning to visit a different island, however, if our path leads to Maui we will definitely consider Kihei Akahi for its, value, location, and comfort.
I stayed at Kihei Akahi in 2013 and from November 6 through November 10 this week. On the whole, it was quite pleasant and the property manger, CRH, is topnotch. I'm going out on a limb here, but apparently either the individual unit owners and/or the HOA have decided to become more strict. A few observations:1. The front desk does nothing substantive at this juncture other than issue parking passes. .Paperwork is handled at the CRH office about two miles from the property. This can be a problem as the CRH office closes at 5 p.m.2. Minor regulations are more heavily enforced. The hours trash can be dumped, display of beach towels on lanais, and the requirement to empty gathered AC water all are a bit over the top.3. Forget trying to get a later check-out. I asked for an additional hour and was assured the persons who followed me would be in unit after it was cleaned upon the 11 a.m. check-out. It may have been true, but it's a factor.Still a great place to stay but the long-run is dependent on what the owners and/or their association decide.I have not given up on the property, at least yet and may use it several weeks in March, but it wouldn't surprise me to see more changes that make it harder on visitors.
We stayed in CRH Kihei Akahi condo apartment# C501 for 5 nights in October 28-November 02/2017.First of all, it needs to be written in capitals – THIS IS NOT A HOTEL. It may not be suitable for short term vacationers. We booked in a hurry (big mistake!) almost 1.5 months in advance as it looked like prices were going up and studied the reviews in details after that. After seeing the reviews we decided to cancel; however, the CRH policy was to retain 50% of the booking fee - we basically had no choice! We had a late, after hours check-in on a Saturday and the contact phone# provided worked OK and the CRH staff provided the door access code- so we had no problems with the check-in and did not need to go to their office location. Next day, we checked with the reception on property and signed the rules to be followed- garbage sorting, no noise after 10 pm etc.We paid CAD $ 946 (mind- for 5 nights) – just to get an inappropriate apartment with dirt and grime in every corner; were provided stained towels; utensils provided, but had to clean/ scrub a pan, pot and couple of utensils in order to use them. So, did not take the risk to use the linens provided and used our own. Additionally, had to monitor a dirty bowl under the A/C and empty of accumulated water. Thanks god we did not have cockroaches as read other people were complaining. The only pros for this place- safety box in the room, location (beach was across the street), stores and plaza close; outdoor facilities- pool and BBQ looked OK, but we did not use them as simply did not have time during 4 days. We saw beach chairs and surf board in the cabinet- did not use them. Elevators worked OK. Will not stay ever again at any CRH property as it is out of common sense to pay almost CAD $200 per night and have the entire nightmare described above. We stayed in the apartment C501.After we left CRH sent an email and asked for a survey to be completed that we did and provided the information above in a brief manner- nobody replied to our complain. Traveled as a couple and to add that it was our first trip to Hawaii for a 30 years wedding anniversary- so the accommodation was an unpleasant spot.
We had an excellent stay from Oct 4 to Nov 3 2017. The condo had every utensil you could possibly need, and all the little extras like salt, pepper, sugar and tea, even mayo in the fridge! We left instant coffee among other things, but there was certainly enough of everything to get you started, and don't forget the Safeway discount card in the drawer of the entry way table. We did not use the air conditioning at all, found that the ceiling fans along with opening the bedroom and lanai windows plus the lockable metal screen door were good enough for us. There is a good assortment of beach chairs, umbrellas and towels, plus some childrens' beach accessories which we didn't use. If you need to access a computer there is an internet cafe about 3 blocks down the street or you can get a Hawaii State library card. Foodland, Times, Long's, Tamura's and Safeway were our main sources of food to cook, or you can drive to Costco/Target/Walmart or the "Swap Meet" on Saturday mornings (0700-1300 at University of Hawaii) in Kahului Our minor gripe about C513 is there was no safe for documents, but location and amenities were great, we'd definitely recommend this condo and would stay here again...
My husband and I were very pleased with the condo we stayed in, this past October..It was very clean, and had plenty of kitchen items: plus beach chairs, boogie boards: even a large beach umbrella! Our bed was very firm but comfortable...There was plenty of storage to put our clothes and other items in...The only negative for me was how far we were from our car..But I can't fault the owner of the condo for that...It was difficult at times, bringing our stuff and groceries up to the condo: which was on the 5th floor. But other than that, we had an awesome experience..The washer and dryer worked great: and everything was as good as we could have hoped for...If we go to Maui again, I'd happily rent that condo again :-)
