There were good reviews and the photos looked promising. We arrived tired from traveling all day. First we noticed a screeching noise from the bathroom off the master bedroom. Then we noted a two hour timer on both the window air conditioners. We always check the mattress and noted some strange rust colored stains at the top. We called the owner with our complaints and ended up staying at a nearby hotel. The next day the owner said the problem with the toilet had been fixed and the stains on the mattress were alternately: 1. Part of the pattern and 2. Someone had put wet sheets on the bed. We couldn't accept these explanations. We thought we had left something at the condo and found we had been locked out. Although we had spent over $1,600.00 we were not able to get back in as the combination lock had been changed. We never received a penny of our money back. In the end we feel we did the right thing leaving and would do so again in a heartbeat.
We stayed 10 days in a second floor condo near the tennis courts in the rear of the property. The property is well kept, clean, and quiet. Our neighbors in the building were owners or residents who seemed a bit geriatric and stand-offish, I assumed because we were visitors. The pool area was clean and nice and relaxing. During our stay the hot tub was not working for several days but it was addressed. We also had one AC unit fail on a weekend but this was quickly addressed by property management. It was nice to have a little distance from drunk or otherwise obnoxious tourists. (There was a little of this but not much). This definitely isn't a party-scene, which is nice. Both of the condos we accessed (friends stayed in a nearby condo) were well maintained and clean. We enjoyed having walking access to all the beaches and we had quick drives to the grocery store, food trucks, and the other (better) beaches to the south. We would stay here again, perhaps as a couple, but for a family with kids it would have been advantageous to pay more to be on the water or be in a place where they could feel comfortable being louder. The kids had to be a little sedate in the pool and there weren't really good places for them to wander around and play. If you want a place that is quiet and partially removed from the chaos of Kihei, yet close enough to access what you need, this is a good bet.
I always check Trip Advisor and Yelp before I book. I had reservations for I-118 on October 6th and happened to see a rather so-so review. I was very pleasantly surprised to arrive to a very clean, spacious condo with an ocean view and at a great price. Everything seemed new, the bathrooms seemed to be the originals but the rest of the condo had a new kitchen and new flooring throughout the main rooms. Everything that I needed was in the condo and the ocean was right outside. I can't imagine how anyone could not enjoy I-118. Maybe they were just out in the sun way too long LOL!
We stayed at the Maui Kamaole for about 10 days. The grounds are beautiful and well cared for. We really enjoyed the pool (especially on those hot August days!) and it was nice to have access to BBQs for when we felt like cooking. Our condo looked out onto the pool and we could see a bit of the ocean as well. Our 2 bedroom condo was very spacious but in need of updating (particularly the bathrooms, kitchen, and carpeting throughout). We appreciated the conveniences of having 2 bathrooms, a fully stocked kitchen, and laundry and we were also happy to have access to beach gear (chairs, umbrella, snorkel equipment, etc), though one of the chairs was broken. The air conditioning worked well on the main floor, though it was definitely warmer upstairs. We LOVED the large balcony off the living room. The complex is across the street from the beach and within walking distance to a number of shops and restaurants. Overall I would definitely recommend this place and would be happy to stay here again in the future.
It was filthy, and you can tell it did not have a decent cleaning in years. The carpet, furniture, and bedding are old and stained throughout, and smelled old and moldy. Worst of all, it was infested with cockroaches!. You could tell the owner did not take care of this unit.I would recommend the complex, as the pools were very nice, and the grounds were well taken care of. This was our 4th trip to Maui, and by far the worst because of this condo.https://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserReviews-g60632-d239852-r210754743-Maui_Kamaole-Kihei_Maui_Hawaii.html#
