Napili Kai Beach Resort
- What's Included
Nice resort in a small bay with a beautiful sandy beach. Friendly staff all around, very good Houskeeping as perfectly clean. The resort has quiet hours which we liked. The room itself was huge with everything you need including a kitchen. Nice big balcony, comfortable bed. Maybe for a room tip try to get a sea view room from the building right to the lobby when facing the sea.
What an amazing resort - we had an oceanfront suite with a fantastic kitchen and a balcony overlooking the water. Very nice private beach, beautiful grounds and scenery, great food at the Sea House restaurant, and helpful hotel staff. The spa gave great massages. Nice snorkeling, pools, and other amenities. Very quiet at night and very relaxing overall. I would come here again in a heartbeat and would highly recommend it. Nice mix of families, honeymooners, older folks, etc. and it was a nice smaller size than some of the other nearby resorts and closer to the water.
Napili Kai is a special place. My parents have been frequenting this resort for 20 plus years and after joining them for 10 days this summer we finally saw first hand why they keep coming back. It was established in the 60s (there's a book you can find in your unit that tells the story of its development) and has been added onto and updated many times since. The resort has everything you need - a great beach, a rocky shoreline with tide pools to explore, amazing snorkeling, a big pool, smaller pools, a hot tub, putting greens and a fabulous restaurant. The staff is super friendly, knowledgeable and experienced. There are a number of social events (Mai Tai party, Putting contest with $1 drinks) and daily educational talks that highlight different aspects of native culture that add to the experience. I imagine they have been going on since the place was founded and you do feel a bit like you have stepped back in time to the way resorts were once run - definitely in a good way. We loved the relaxed pace of the place. The grounds are spacious and well groomed and it never felt crowded despite being pretty much fully booked. Our unit (upstairs in Keaka 4) was nicely furnished and had a well stocked galley kitchen and a big lanai. The resort is located at the north end of Napili Beach and is just a short stroll to Kapalua Beach and from there you'll find a nice trail can follow up the coast. If you feel the need for crowds and shopping the much larger resort area of Kaanapali or the town of Lahaina are both a short drive away. My whole family loved our time here and kids were asking when we could go back before we were even home.
First all the positives A really lovely hotel with a great laid back atmosphere in a wonderful location. We had ocean front rooms which were divine and the small kitchens were really useful for drinks, snacks and a couple of breakfasts and lunches. Staff are fantastic and so helpful. We had turtles outside our room and the beach and bay are perfect. The restaurant is unfortunately very average and we had much better food in town and in the little mall which is five minutes' drive away. The negative -- having been told we wanted to see dolphins the concierge recommended a tour which basically sped us to another island, left us on the beach for three hours alone, then sped us back via a snorkel stop literally five minutes from the start point where we could see the car park. For a princely sum. Bizarre given that obviously he knew we were staying at this resort with a far better beach and better snorkelling than the stop we made. He had professed to be a very keen snorkelled himself so we can only draw our own conclusions. The absolute positive? - when we explained to the hotel our upset at this ruined day, Hazel the manager was exceptionally kind and understanding and not only gave us a full refund but also sent a little gift and invited us for complimentary drinks. Now that is classy service and she should be recognised for that. The hotel does say that the concierge operates independent of them so ...... just beware. There are shops up in the mall where you can book all the activities probably cheaper and better. But apart from that this is a great place and fabulous for families, and all ages.
We stayed at Napili Kai for our first trip to Maui during mid-July for 8 nights. Many will recommend a condo when staying in Maui but its not for us. I don’t like the inflexibility/paying in advance/fees/no housekeeping/cooking etc. that goes with renting a condo. Napili Kai gives you the convenience of a condo with a kitchen but also has resort amenities. The resort is in a great location in West Maui on a gorgeous stretch of beach with spectacular views. It is a small property made up of low rise buildings with beautifully maintained grounds. It was quiet at night and such a bonus to be able to enjoy Napili Bay before the crowds arrived for the day. No need to lug all your beach gear around and find parking if you stay here, everything you need is steps from your room. Our unit was a 2nd floor ocean view studio by the lobby, ahola building. The room overall was nice and had a king bed and a huge lanai. The view was amazing from the room. The kitchen was well stocked with everything you need if you choose to cook. There is a fridge/freezer, microwave, stove top and all utensils and dishware. The biggest downfall of the room was no air conditioning. The way the room was situated it had no air flow from the trades. Not having been to Hawaii in the summer I was shocked how hot it was. Previous trips to other islands in the winter did not require AC. We had to run all the fans (luckily extras were provided in the room). I am not sure if this is any savings to the resort having to run so many fans, they really need to install air conditioning in all the rooms especially given the price point of this accommodation. The activities and amenities are top notch and are all included. I dislike resorts that nickel and dime you and that is not the case here. Parking is included and there is no resort fee. There are chairs and beach towels for guests. There are daily cultural demonstrations and once a week, not to be missed Napili Kai Children’s Foundation hula show and the informative horticultural tour. We also took part in the putting and mai tai parties which were great for getting to know some of the other guests. There are several pools throughout the property and they were never busy. There were always plenty of chairs for everyone. The resort is very family friendly and during the summer a kids club runs from 10 – noon. There are food options on site, a snack bar that you can charge to the room only and the lovely Sea House restaurant. Many of the guests staying here are repeat visitors and you can see why, Napili Kai has it all! There is lots to keep you busy nearby when you aren’t enjoying time at the resort. Kapalua Bay is right next door for more snorkeling. The Kapalua Costal trail is a great little hike, go in the heat of the day and you’ll nearly have some of the trail to yourself. Be sure to go out to the point. For shopping, fun restaurants and more activities Lahaina is less than 15 minutes away. We went to Lahaina several times and I was thankful we didn’t have to fight the traffic with those coming from Kihei. We went diving with Extended Horizons, surfing with Maui Wave Riders and took the ferry to the cat sanctuary in Lanai organized by Lost on Lanai. We had a fun lunch with a view at Lahaina Pizza. Be sure to stop by Ululani for shave ice early in the day before the line gets crazy. We also went to La Perouse Bay for a hike early one morning followed by lunch at Sugar Beach bakery, more Ululani shave ice and a visit to the Maui Ocean Centre. I am so happy we chose to stay at Napili Kai for our first time on Maui. It was an exceptional experience in a stunning location. A few tips I have for your stay:-pay the extra to secure a room with air conditioning-arrive before it gets dark. Not having been to Maui and arriving late after a long travel day made for a scary drive-spend time at the beach early in the day and late in the afternoon to avoid the huge crowds.-Go snorkeling and watch for turtles (but keep your distance and wear reef safe sunscreen). You can rent gear from nearby Snorkel Bob’s, they also have boogie boards to rent for $7.50 a day to play in the waves.-Also nearby is 808 Boards for paddleboard rentals as the resort does not provide boards.$35 for 2 hours and $45 for the day.-Walk the beach over to the Gazebo for white chocolate macadamia pancakes with coconut syrup but get there well before their 7:30 opening. The line gets seriously long.-Take part in the free resort activities-Pick up groceries and drinks at the nearby Napili Market-Don’t over plan and schedule every minute of your trip. Take time to relax and if you miss something you have a reason to return to beautiful Maui and Napili Kai!
