Outrigger Aina Nalu Resort
- What's Included
In our second night we got locked in our bedroom as the door handle was broken. We only realised this after we closed the bedroom door with us inside, and couldn't open it again. We tried to get help by calling the front desk, but the phone in the room was out of order. Luckily, I had my mobile and was able to make an external call to the hotel to get help. To their credit, they came to open the door for us within 15 minutes. Also, both side lamps in the living room were out of order. Also, they charge USD $25 each day, just to clear trash bins/provide fresh towels, which is a bit steep.Overall, friendly staff but poorly maintained rooms.
My parents came with my husband and I this trip to Aina Nalu. It couldn't have been a better set up for us. We had everything we needed here. The rooms are spacious, clean and set up with everything you need, a full kitchen, washer, dryer, wifi and separate bathrooms/bedrooms. We had a two bedroom on the first floor. The kitchen has all the necessities you need to cook meals there and save money. The grocery store is up the street only five minutes away. The facility was clean. We used the pool and hot tub daily. We used the cabana area to play cards at night and picnic at. The front desk personnel were very friendly. So much value for the price. You are only a five minute walk from all the action of Front Street and the harbor.
We stayed here a few days before Thanksgiving in the Malia building, room A106, a one bedroom suite for just me and my partner. We rented a car from Kahului airport (Alamo) and took us approx. 40 mins. to find hotel. (through GPS on our phones). The leisurely drive to Lahaina was wonderful, although a bit windy, it was very scenic. We made a left onto Prison Street and then Waine'e street and hotel is on the right. Don't drive too fast or you'll miss the driveway entrance. We've stayed at the Westin Maui in Kaanapali before but this is our first time staying at the Aina Nalu Outrigger in Lahaina. The lady who checked me in was very nice and honored our request to be close to the front of the hotel and close to the parking lot.I think her name was Loelani? I forgot the spelling of her name but she explained everything to me, even advised us upfront of the mandatory cleaning fees, so we were not caught off guard. This cleaning fee is also mentioned on their website, so I am not sure why others said they were surprised about cleaning fees? Booking direct through Outrigger in my opinion is the best. There are many other buildings on this property and no elevators, only stairs. Our room was on the ground floor and suited us best. From our building it is a short walk down the hallway to the pools. The smell of flowers was also very fragrant on this property and that also reminded us we are on vacation! Can't get that smell at home! At the time we stayed here it was only a handful of people but never overwhelming or crowded like the big resorts. We loved every minute of it during our stay here and it was usually very both quiet day and night. We hardly heard anyone to the left or right of us or above us. We loved that for once we did not have to take an elevator to get to the room. We did not have to stick our magnetic room key in our room, we simply had to wave it in front of the censor to open the door. The room was very clean and had all the essentials needed for cooking which is a plus because we feasted on local foods from Foodland (10 mins walk from hotel) and stocked our fridge with goodies. Pots, pans, utensils, placemats, water kettle, coffee maker, plastic containers, glassware, plates, bowls, even salt and pepper. I packed some oil in a small plastic container in my suitcase instead of buying a big bottle of oil at grocery store. The bed was cozy and so was the living room area. Very spacious and if you book months in advance, you can get a really good rate. There are TVs in both the living room and bedroom. I booked this hotel because of all the conveniences away from home. Having a washer and dryer in each unit saved me lots of money, traveled with only enough clothes to wash again. In this unit, the washer and dryer worked just fine. This room came with two boxed powdered detergent, to do two loads of laundry. I packed a few Tide liquid pods and dryer sheets in my suitcase just in case. There was also some dish wash soap with brand new dish sponge, extra paper towel and trash can beneath the sink. The tiled shower suited us fine and we had no complaints at all. Water pressure was excellent and never too cold or too hot.The AC and fans were working just fine in the room. We sleep with fans/AC on at home so it was never 'noisy' to us. It was very windy during our stay here so we also opened the windows as well. We were also prepared to pay the daily parking fee as parking on the streets of Lahaina was scarce. I would rather pay for the parking fee instead of a resort fee. One night, however I forgot to put out the guest parking sign on the car and received a notice 'offense' on the windshield but that was my fault. I never forgot to put our guest parking sign on the dash ever again, LOL....Check out was a breeze as well, no line at all and I like how you can sit and be comfortable and no long lines either. Liz checked us out without any fuss, asked informative questions if I wanted to settle my bill with the same credit card on file. Yes, Front Street, Foodland and local owned eateries are very close by Aina Nalu. If you want the crowds, go to Kaanapali. If you are a seasoned traveler and don't need all the bells and whistles, this is a very reasonably priced resort without the extra hype. Will gladly book again for my next Maui trip. Will post pics of my room soon!
We stayed at the Aina Nalu for my husbands birthday there were 6 adults so we had a single double room and a two bed/bath room. The rooms were spacious and accommodating.my brother in laws room was not clean at all in fact the walk in shower was so dirty it left marks on the towels after you had showered and also some of the furniture was too big for the room and they had no kettle .The swimming pool and outside beds were lovely and the grounds were kept tidy and clean .The front desk were not very helpful and even told my brother in law to use the coffee jug in the microwave to make his tea in the morning .overall would probably not stay here again .But the island is a must ..
We booked through a package deal and were very pleased. We weren't sure exactly the kind of room, but new it would be 2-bedroom. We checked in at the front lobby which looked more like a covered patio with desks. The gal at the desk gave us clear directions to our rooms and explained the parking. Some reviewers say park on the street and skip the parking fee, but it was a headache finding parking in the evening, especially with small children. The hotel is more in a residential area so quieter, but still within walking distance of Lahaina restaurants and shops. The street is just two lanes with not much sidewalk, so a bit challenging to walk along with little ones. The room was really nice, clean and comfortable. Because of the tropical climate we did get bugs (I think SUPER tiny ants), if we didn't promptly clean the kitchen. Assorted geckos and lizards around the grounds, which is typical for this type of climate, but may surprise people. There were air conditioning units in the living room and 1 bedroom, plus a fan in the second bedroom. There was a stacked washer dryer in the bathroom. The kitchen was sufficiently stocked with dishes, utensils and appliances. Everything looked as if fairly recently updated decor. There's not much view but the plants and greenery between the buildings. The pools are fairly small. The larger pool was too deep for our kids (5 and 8) to stand in, so we stayed in the smaller pool. The concierge was helpful with activities but not too pushy. This was very refreshing from many places in the island. Also didn't see anybody selling stuff. Overall a great jumping off point for activities or just hanging around Lahaina.
