Outrigger Palms at Wailea
- What's Included
Bought a deal through Costco that included a 2 bedroom/2 bath condo at this Vacation rental plus rental car. Had my doubts that this was going to be sub-par but it exceeded my expectations. The unit was large, well kept, & updated. The master bedroom -huge, 2nd bedroom fit a queen bed, the bathrooms looked like resort bathrooms, & the kitchen had more than enough supplies. We had a large shaped lanai with a bbq, dinner table, another patio set & loungers. It also had a washer/dryer. What topped it off was the foldable beach chairs, umbrella, & boogie boards that were also available to use. We also utilized the pool & jacuzzi which was open until 10pm! I would definitely come again & request the same unit. I heard that each unit is different & per another guest -theirs was outdated. p.s. I'm purposefully not telling you the room so it doesn't get overbooked when I want to return. But I will hint that it was a 3-digit unit. The downside to the Palms was we could not do a late check out nor did they have a hospitality room.
Lovely grounds, good amenities, very well maintained. Condo's are spacious with especially generous patios--literally, outdoor living rooms. Ocean views (and whale spotting!) from many. Walking distance to the best beaches and fine dining restaurants like Manou's and the Ka'ana Kitchen At the Andaz.
Used the gps to locate the resort but it kept bringing us to a shopping mall. Called the resort and the person was very helpful in quickly sending security to meet us & bring us to the after hours check-in location. We had 25 steps to access the unit (1 bedroom, 2 bathrooms, living room, kitchen & dining area, washer/dryer in closet and large patio - carpet and ceramic flooring). The unit was clean but quite dated; minor repairs needed (eg blinds). We had requested 2 beds but were informed that our type of room only comes with one and a sofa bed in the living room - would have been nice if they informed us when we first had made the request. There was no a/c except for in the bedroom (didn't use). Bed & sofa bed relatively comfortable. Safe in room provided free of charge.Kitchen was well equipped to make all types of meals. Dish and laundry soap was provided. Tip: Buy your food at Foodland in Kihei, you can become a Maikai customer just by providing your cell number and get significant savings. The resort buildings are on a slope and so it may be difficult for people with health issues to walk to the pool/front desk if you're on a lower level. Resort provided beach/pool towels. The view is very pretty from the front desk, it over looks the pool and stream with plants. Information center for activities is very helpful even if you don't book anything through them. All employees that we encountered were very nice. Walking to the beach was not an option for us due to the distance and slope while carrying necessities. Check out was easy and quick. Cost about $140 US for set cleaning fees (no daily cleaning, just done after you leave). Wifi worked well.My preference would have been to go to the Four Seasons which is directly on the beach with lounge chairs and umbrellas for shade. Not sure that it would have been that much more expensive for the benefits. If you're a family and in shape, this could be a good option but request a updated room closer to the beach or pool, depending on your preferences.
I wish I had read all reviews but I didn't & was very disappointed. First of all yes, some are very run down & horrible housekeeping !!! Especially when there charging you over $250 for a cleaning fee on top of your nightly rate. One thing not stated prior to stay but informed after check in is that they have lock boxes on air conditioning controls!!! If you want A/C...there's an additional $20 per night plus tax surcharge!!! Now yes you can open windows with breeze and that's perfect during the day but what do you do at night when you pre teen kids are in second bedroom? Lock all and suffocate! Rice on sliding door runner from previous guests, broken blinds, chipped floor tiles, dirty bathroom tiles (mold) again, for what your paying for nightly rate plus hidden charges, you can stay at a resort on the beach not three blocks away.
Our rental unit is one of many in The Palms close to the beach(6 minute walk away) and there is a small pool as part of the property. A grocery run into Kihei only takes a 10 mins. drive at best. Overall a good price for the size of the place but air conditioning is only in the master bedroom. We were there in Feb. and with the sliding doors and windows open the rest of this large suite was comfortable with the use of fans. Roomy, quiet and well equipped(but no barbeque!), fairly clean but in need of some general maintenance
