Outrigger Palms at Wailea
- What's Included
I booked the Palms after having a stellar experience visiting some friends who had a room at the property several years ago. I've been coming to Maui every year for many years and decided to was time to give the Palms a try myself. My own stay didn't live up to the past excellence. On the surface, the Palms is a great place. The grounds are immaculate, the building exteriors are clean and inviting, and the layout and spaciousness of the units themselves isn't matched at many other properties in Kihei. The unit was well equipped with everything we needed to make a variety of meals, including a private propane BBQ. Also, their internet is phenomenal. So all of those things are great about the property. And the location is perfect - easy access without having to go through the hassle of South Kihei road, while still walking distance to the King Kam beaches, Makena, the Shops, Beach and resorts at Wailea. All great reasons to stay here. The negatives I want to frame are probably unit specific. Most condo properties I've been a repeat customer at have some great units and others that aren't so great, and I want to believe I just lost the unit lottery on this one. That said, we had pests in the kitchen and bedroom that we couldn't get rid of no matter how much we cleaned those spaces. There were issues with some of the key appliances, some plumbing issues, and just the general cleanliness of the room that had us frustrated. Considering the $140USD per stay additional cleaning fee on top of the nightly room rate, with no daily housekeeping services provided I would have expected more. The other thing I'd caution is don't go here if you are planning lots of late nights (like New Year's Eve for example), because landscaping starts with power blowers every single morning at 8am and doesn't end until about noon. Some of the units are also very close to one of two major roadways, so if I was staying here again I'd pitch the extra $15USD / night to upgrade to an ocean view room to avoid having all of the road noise at night.Overall, the property is beautiful and with a bit of unit-specific maintenance and a revisit of a few of their booking and cleaning policies I think the Palms will be a great property. Even if I'd had a different unit with a few upgrades and a better location in the complex, my experience could've been very different. But in the meantime, we've had good luck with the Aston Maui Hill in the past and with for our next trip we'll probably try and head back there.
We are staying at the Palms at Wailea which is an Outrigger resort. The condos are really large in size and have kitchens, outdoor deck, air conditioning, and washer/dryer. Safeway is just 5 minutes away. We are traveling as 2 adults and 2 children and we have a 2 bedroom condo #806. The view is stunning from here -- tremendous views of the sea and N Maui volcano. It's really nice to be able to have your own food in the fridge and to cook when you want to rather than depending on a restaurant for every meal. The condo has its own parking space, and the desk staff has been extremely helpful and attentive. There is a smallish swimming pool near to the reception area, and a hot tub. The resort is really quiet and relaxing. Stay in Wailea at this "better" property for less than half of what other top end Wailea resorts cost in a much larger room and with your own kitchen. Very clean, modern, and nice resort. The resort does not front to the beach but there are 3 beaches within a 3 minute drive or a 10 minute walk. One of those beaches is right between the Four Seasons and the Grand Wailea, is a public beach, and (who knows?) you might have your kids swim at Grand Wailea's pools and waterslides for free (it could happen...) :)
After booking this condo I read the reviews....was a little concerned after reading them; however it was more than I expected. The condo was extremely clean - two bedroom villa room 805. The only drawback would be there is no on site dining or even cocktail lounge. it would have been nice to have a cocktail lounge during the many rainy days and nights we had. All this said I would recommend this resort. It was a break from the on the go days we had in Oahu. There is no laundry service however washer & dryer in room and they provide detergent! Very helpful. The hotel guest service opens late and closes early - this is a drawback if you want info.
Bought a deal through Costco that included a 2 bedroom/2 bath condo at this Vacation rental plus rental car. Had my doubts that this was going to be sub-par but it exceeded my expectations. The unit was large, well kept, & updated. The master bedroom -huge, 2nd bedroom fit a queen bed, the bathrooms looked like resort bathrooms, & the kitchen had more than enough supplies. We had a large shaped lanai with a bbq, dinner table, another patio set & loungers. It also had a washer/dryer. What topped it off was the foldable beach chairs, umbrella, & boogie boards that were also available to use. We also utilized the pool & jacuzzi which was open until 10pm! I would definitely come again & request the same unit. I heard that each unit is different & per another guest -theirs was outdated. p.s. I'm purposefully not telling you the room so it doesn't get overbooked when I want to return. But I will hint that it was a 3-digit unit. The downside to the Palms was we could not do a late check out nor did they have a hospitality room.
Lovely grounds, good amenities, very well maintained. Condo's are spacious with especially generous patios--literally, outdoor living rooms. Ocean views (and whale spotting!) from many. Walking distance to the best beaches and fine dining restaurants like Manou's and the Ka'ana Kitchen At the Andaz.
