Royal Kahana Maui by Outrigger
- What's Included
A fairly basic condo style resort with full kitchens. Located beachfront and close to shops and restaurants.
I just flew home after a wonderful week at this resort. I have to say that after booking and reading all the negative reviews I was apprehensive about my stay at the Royal Kahana that I booked through Costco but was surprised and thankful for the wonderful condo that we stayed in. Condo 810 is the best that anyone could ask for as far as view and room for a party of 4 ... parents and two young adults. Everyone was wonderful from the time we checked until the time we left. Chip was awesome for giving you a plethora of adventures that he highly recommended. We were never bored and busy the whole the week. If you like 4 star resorts with all the amenities this is not for you... but if you are family just wanting a nice place to kick back and relax then this is a wonderful place. There is coffee, general store/gas station, McDonalds, and Maui Brewing in walking distance across the street so the location is great if you want a quiet stay. Also like most places in Hawaii where you have to pay for your car you don't here which a plus. The beach is trying to come back and there was people walking and playing in the ocean out front the whole time as well as turtles. I would definately stay here again.... I didn't want to leave the view. Wish I could of brought it home with me. Thanks Royal Kahana for making my vacation with my family a memorable one.
We just returned from eight nights at the Royal Kahana and had a fabulous stay in our ocean view studio. Although we usually book through online booking sites, we booked directly through the hotel and our rate was incredible. Our room was clean, well-kept and updated. We had a phenomenal view of the ocean and could see turtles from our balcony. We were able to walk out to the small strip of beach in front of the hotel and walk a few steps to the left to access a good swimming beach. The unit was well equipped with dish detergent, paper towels, shampoo and toilet paper and the kitchen had everything we needed to do all the cooking we wanted to do on a holiday. I was pleasantly surprised to see it was stocked with salt and pepper, sugar packets, a packet of coffee and a few tea bags, so we were set for our first morning! The staff was friendly, accessible and awesome! I would return here in a heartbeat!
We booked through Costco and did research before coming so we knew more or less what to expect. Here are some things to note before you go:1. This is not a resort, if you are looking for the resort feel look elsewhere.2. The property is a little older but everything we saw was very clean. Our room was great.3. Housekeeping is not included.4. The beach in front is small, pretty private. But you'll probably go to other beaches.5. You should get a car if you plan to stay here.As long as you're OK with those things this place is great. We booked a car, stopped at Costco and stoked up. The studio had everything we needed, large fridge, utensils, pots, pans and washer/dryer.It was a great place to be, staff was friendly especially Afu.We hardly used the pool or beach, we enjoyed exploring the areas around. It made our experience in Maui very affordable.
I read all the reviews, both the good and the bad before booking this hotel. I understood the risks of staying here but I hoped for the best, and I hoped maybe the people that wrote negative reviews were just over exaggerating. Unfortunately for me, both the good & the bad reviews are accurate. After relooking through the Tripadvisor photos, I don't know how many rooms actually look like the traveler photos but I can assure you; our room looked nothing like these. I did not take any photos nor complain to the front desk because I didn't want to be "that person". But perhaps maybe I should have. It was my first trip to Maui and I wanted to stay somewhere affordable however I cheaped out on the hotel and it cheaped out my experience too. If you do stay here, ask for a room from the Tripadvisor photo section and maybe you will have better luck. They "upgraded" our room upon arrival which was really nice and we had an ocean view. However, it made me wonder what we would have had originally if the room we ended up in was an upgrade. *The snack shack was not open for the duration of our trip.*The room smelled like mildew & every time I ran the washing machine it made the entire room smell like dirty water. Fortunately, my laundry did not capture the smell.*The shower curtain had mildew from where it was folded. I thought the shower curtain rod was going to come out of the wall with the slightest bump. The water pressure was fine but the hot water would come in and out.* The white fridge had something hard & yellow all over the handle.* Yes there is plenty of parking, yes the location is good. Yes the beach area is small but nice & great place for sunsets. There are no bugs, and for the most part the hotel is quiet minus the construction from the neighboring area that starts around 7:30am or so.* Rebekah was great and helpful when booking our Hana tour.
Very disappointed in this property. We booked this as part of a package, for 7 nights, and I should have done more research. Housekeeping and towel exchange was an additional fee, starting at $25/day, but our unit had a washing machine and dryer so could wash our own. Our unit was dirty, looks like black mould around the ceiling in the shower, and entire room had a very unpleasant odour that we couldn't get rid of. Staff wasn't very accommodating. Will not stay here again.
