Royal Kahana Maui by Outrigger
- What's Included
A fairly basic condo style resort with full kitchens. Located beachfront and close to shops and restaurants.
My mother, auntie and I arrived in Maui on March 11th and departed March 18th, 2017.We loved the heated pool area, as well as the BBQ area. It was kept very clean. Our room was a little dated but was clean. We stayed in room# 406, could use a new mattress but the views were amazing. Since we went in March you could see the whales from our balcony. The location over all was great. They are currently working on restoring the beach area in front of the hotel, a little noise from the construction but it was minimum. Also the kitchen came stocked with toaster, blender, all pots and pans, etc. Overall it was a great hotel for our first time in Maui, we will return.
We were upgraded on arrival to a beautiful one bedroom condo. The views of the ocean and sunsets are amazing. The kitchen was great and having an in unit washer and dryer is nice. The beach is still a work in progress following a bad storm season but you still have access close by.
Wow! Ocean as far as you can see! Our travel agent put us in a 2 bed 2 1/2 bath condo. 2nd floor, right on the ocean. Due to recent weather, the beach had washed out but I am not a beach person. The room had a double Lenai and from it we watch whales every morning. The parking is very tight, but lots of spaces.Only negative I have is the Concierge Mark was not very nice or helpful. We had a few hours to kill one day and he wanted us to set up zip lining through him, we asked if there were some sights that we needed to see before we left the Island and he really didn't give us any he just wanted us to spend money.
Our family stayed for one week in this 2 bedroom, 2.5 bath oceanfront condo (unit 210). Posted pictures accurately represent this unit. Both bedrooms are well-sized and the living/dining space is extremely spacious. The kitchen, while small, has all basic items needed for a short stay. The standout is the large balcony and ample outdoor dining/seating space. Yes, the furniture/décor is in definite need of a refresh; however, the unit was clean, the managers (friends of the owners) extremely responsive, and I imagine a remodeled unit would have rented for much more than the price we paid. We asked that the two twin beds be made into a king-sized bed, which was done ahead of our arrival. We also received a code for the unit door prior to arriving and our late check-out was accommodated for an additional charge. We were there for the view and enjoyed daily whale sightings, living on the balcony for the most part. The larger building, while older, appeared cared for (exception – the elevated tennis courts look on the verge of collapse). The pool (heated) and public areas were clean. As others have mentioned, parking is limited and spaces are extremely narrow (expect a few additional dings by the end of your visit) and there is only a small garden area. Most of the guests were retirees (owners or repeat guests) and a few families. There was extensive sandbagging happening during our stay to prevent erosion. By the looks of what was done and the time/effort required, I wonder if these sandbags are here to stay. This is not a detraction for us - the beach at this location was never expansive and there are more beautiful beaches located a short drive away (e.g., Ka’anapali, DT Fleming Beach Park, Slaughterhouse). Minor complaints: there was substantial work using heavy machinery starting fairly early in the morning – we woke early, but I imagine this would have made sleeping in difficult. We were vigilant about keeping the balcony doors closed but the air conditioner still struggled to completely cool the unit. There were also a few dirty kitchen items that needed to be cleaned before using. Overall, we absolutely enjoyed our stay - for the price for the week, we would return for the balcony and beautiful oceanfront view. Included with the unit:- Kitchen: dish soap, dishwasher soap, hand towels, paper towels (there are no non-stick pans; if you plan to cook pick up a sponge).- Bathroom: toilet paper, extra bath towels, tissues, small hotel-sized soaps (no shampoo/conditioner)- Closet: 4 beach chairs, medium-sized cooler, sand toys, rafts, fins, snorkel mask, books- 1 beach towel/person
We had some challenges with our room when we checked in, but they were taken care of. There is not any beach access at the place, due to recent storms. The one bedroom room with an ocean view was clean and comfortable. We spent a lot of time sitting on the balcony watching whales.
