Sugar Beach Resort
- What's Included
Came for spring break hoping not to enter a party zone. While there are families here, building 1 is right on the beach with no pool noise. Perfect getaway!!! Gorgeous balcony overlooking open ocean, sunsets, boaters, and endless humpback activity. Tranquil, and a quick and easy drive to all the local amenities and attractions. VERY helpful concierge staff who helped us choose and book local tours. Highly recommend, will be back as soon as I can! Dated decor in condo but perfectly comfortable, everything we need.
We stayed in Maui before, near this resort. I requested two weeks in this condo. I was told the dates weren't available, but was offered alternate dates which I accepted. After being told an invoice was being sent, the owner suddenly quit responding to emails and texts. After contacting HomeAway out of desperation, the owner finally emailed and said they decided not to rent the unit. Super, after I've already made nearly $2000 in airfare to accommodate their alternate dates they offered. Lesson learned.
We spent 11 nights at Sugar Beach and loved it... Can't wait to go back! We were in 309 which was super clean and had everything we needed. Wonderful ocean view and sound of the waves! Used the hot tub every night which is a great place to meet people and get good ideas on where to go! The sandwich shop/ bar was fun for a drink and snack...Overall great place to stay!
We spent 4 nights in unit 302 due to a water leak in another condo at Maui Vista. The Resort was build in 1977 and has Good kept places and some Bad ones. We happened to get one that hadn't been kept up. Had to deal with Maui Condo and House Rentals, which took my concerns and hopefully the next people would get a better stay. This condo was to close to the Hwy, so all you heard was traffic. I feel the Maui Condo property management had not seen to this condo, before us renting it. This would not be my first choice of places to stay.
We travelled here for our 45th anniversary, so we are no spring chickens; but like to think we have become travel savvy through the years. We picked this resort because we did not want to stay along the Lahaina shore because traffic can often become congested, and we wanted to pick a resort that was centrally located to the airport for a quick trip upon arrival and departure, being in close proximity to the airport for a mid-stay early flight to the Big Island and a late return home that evening, for getting a head start on a Road to Hana drive and for reaching the sunrise on Haleakalah. Did it disappoint? NO. You are just north of Kihei so a quick drive in for a bite to eat or shopping (flea market was a great find); but you are on a quiet side road off the main thoroughfare which you could easily access from any direction. Whenever we drove up the coast toward Lahaina, we experienced bumper to bumper traffic either for ourselves or for the oncoming traffic. Sugar Beach was an older condo with laminate countertops, but having a separate bedroom with a very comfortable bed, the toilet in a room to itself, a balcony with great ocean views although we did not pay the extra for an oceanfront room and overlooked the pool and could see Kihei in the distance, and having in room WiFi, laundry facilities, and a fully stocked kitchen with refrigerator, coffee pot and microwave checked all the boxes for us. We had access to large beach towels and a cooler in the room as well which made a trip to the hot tub quicker and packing picnics so much easier. There is a small cafe/bar onsite which served a great quality lunch at an affordable price. Next door is a really nice souvenir shop with reasonable prices where I picked up some fun island earrings and we got t-shirts for the family (which didn't shrink when we got home). The savings on this condo made our trip affordable enough to squeeze in a tour to Mount Kilauea on the Big Island and the Old Lahaina Luau - that is what matters to us since we aren't in our room that much. We want to experience all the things we can't do at home and enjoy the beauty of the island instead of staying inside. So who cares what size TV or that there is one in the bedroom and who cares that there are laminate countertops instead of granite? What we will remember are the views, the sights and sounds, and that extra hour every day getting to do more things by not having to drive so far. We felt we were able to squeeze in more of paradise because of its location.
