Sugar Beach Resort
- What's Included
I agree 100% with the other comments about out of control kids & their parents. We were there at the same time only for 5 weeks. We have been going to Sugar Beach Resort for the past 10 yrs. this experience was the worst ever. I disagree that the management can't do anything about it. Everyone signs the same form with the rules you need to abide. So why do we have to sign the form if nothing is enforced! Tom needs to ENFORCE the rules,,but he doesn't see anything & doesn't like to do anything either. Phoning the office doesn't help either. So you sit & watch towels being put over the lanai, people feeding the birds, floaties, snorkel gear in the pool, etc. It is really going down hill. Time for a new manager to walk the resort & enforce all the rules .
This resort goes down as one of the worst condos I've ever stayed at. He biggest issue kid that while you may book with a management company, no one really is overseeing or managing this property. You risk getting a horrible room, like we did, and no one takes responsibility. The front desk does nothing. They have zero to do with anything, even extra trash bags or toilet paper. Our room was filthy and the management company , Maui home and condo did NOTHING !!!Basically you are on your own.Now for the complex itself, not too bad. Pool and bbq area looked nice, but too many unsupervised kids for my liking. The beach is nice but too rough for things like snorkeling. We've stayed at much better managed condo units (Astons) for nearly the same costs. I'd pass on this one.
My husband and I have been coming to Sugar Beach Resort for about 6 years and have always had a good time overall and really enjoy Maui. However, this year we have just arrived and a continual problem we have noticed in past years has become much worse. We arrived on Tuesday afternoon and wanted to have a quick dip in the pool to cool off after our flight. Just as we were about to use the pool, staff came to close the pool because a child had defecated in it. A large group of people with many children packed up and left. The pool was closed until the next day. On that next day this same group of families obviously vacationing together took over a good portion of the deck and the entire pool with pool noodles, air mattresses, footballs, etc, for most of the day. We decided to avoid the area due to this obnoxious group. Oh, I should add that everyone who rents at Sugar Beach sign a list of rules agreeing that flotation devices such as air mattresses, etc are not allowed in the pool. These families between them had at least half a dozen flotation devices, as well as the dads being in the pool with cups of beer in one hand, throwing footballs with the other.Chiildren in diapers are also not allowed in the pool. Yet over and over again, parents bring their children in diapers into the pool. There is also the issue of children under 5 not being allowed in the hot tub. Now, any responsible parent knows that a hot tub is dangerous for small children, who can quickly become overheated. But the main thing is, I have no desire to share a hot tub with a baby in a diaper. Today we saw the results of this behaviour yet again. Just as my friend suggested to me that we take a swim, we turned around and saw that once again, at 3 pm, staff had cordoned off the pool, and it will be closed until at least the next day. The obnoxious families had vanished to their units, leaving behind their detritus of coolers, towels and various floaties left blowing around the deck in the afternoon wind.A phone call to the office produced no results. The staff in the office don't appear to care one whit about what goes on out on the pool deck. We have complained in past years about obnoxious behaviour from other guests - we all pay a lot of money to stay here - Sugar Beach is NOT cheap - and we are all entitled to a relaxing vacation, but not at the expense of other travelers. Yet staff are not prepared to stand by the list of rules that they insist people sign. A further call to our rental company produced sympathy, but unfortunately they have no control over the amenities. They directed us to the actual Property Manager, who told my husband that there is really nothing he can do about it. In fact, there is something he can do about bad behaviour of guests - he can tell them to leave the pool area. This issue has become quite the topic of conversation amongst many guests. We have spoken with several other guests who are angry about the lack of response from the management, and who have complained over and over to no avail.I can't imagine that this problem would be unique to Sugar Beach - We're considering not coming here anymore, and are wondering if our days of loving Maui are numbered. Apparently Sugar Beach Resort doesn't value us as customers, despite the fact that we have paid to stay almost 3 weeks. So out of my first 3 days at Sugar Beach the pool has had to be closed down on two of them because of the actions of one group. and because staff have no backbone, or maybe just don't care. Pretty sad..............
Normally this resort is very quiet and not so populated like other Maui vacation spots. However, there were a lot of young families in the month of November. I wish the parents would make sure their children wore diapers and visited the bathroom frequently as there were "accidents" in the Sugar Beach Resort pool in the past two weeks. There is a need for management to monitor the pool and hot tub area to ensure that guests follow the rules. This is a great weakness on the resort's part. We loved our condo and have stayed there four times now. It's pretty safe here and very nice and clean.
What a beautiful place too stay! Only walking distance to beautiful Sugar on Sugar Beach, had the beach to myself watching the sunrise and beautiful sunset, nice pool and everyone in the office very friendly! Can hardly wait to return , and have another great time in a perfect location!
