Westin Kaanapali Ocean Resort Villas
- What's Included
I booked this hotel based on its Westin name and it definitely did not live up to it.Our experience was ruined from the moment we checked in. After travelling for over 20 hours to get here we were told by the receptionist that our room was not available and would not be available for another 5 hours (until the guaranteed check in time at 4pm). Now both my husband and I are fairly well travelled and have stayed in all types of hotels and accommodations and not once have we been told to wait 5 hours to get into our room. There was a room available but was a different category to the one we booked. Asked if we wanted to upgrade to this room for an additional $100 a night - uh no!After speaking to two different receptionists we were given a room (same category to what we booked) that was miraculously available. Our villa was ridden with ants and cockroaches (especially in the kitchen). Travelling with a baby and having to prepare bottles in this kitchen gave me the creeps. We told reception and they supposedly tended to it but we saw no difference. Everything was expensive and definitely not worth what we paid.Pros - we loved the pools and the beautiful gardens.
My wife and I came here for our honeymoon thanks to a gift. We loved it so much that we bought a place here and always look forward to our visits. Fantastic food, beautiful ocean, wonderful views, and the staff is always so friendly. Special thanks to Brandon Scott who works in engineering and took time to help us out with suggestions for local restaurants and favorites we wouldn't have found otherwise. It's this kind of individual attention that makes us happy to be owners.
We stayed in the North villas based on a recommendation and traveling with 2 small boys made this property a no-brainer.Pros- lovely clean grounds with nice landscaping- spacious rooms with kitchenettes and laundry- Fun play areas for the kids (pirate ship pool!)- Comfortable beds- Good restaurants (although we only ate at the Paiolo grill)Cons- late check-in (4pm) which is hard when you get in early- Some rooms are definitely much better than othersWe are SPG gold and I paid for this with the 4 nights 5th night free promotion. We had reserved an ocean view room which I understood could perhaps just mean an ocean "peek" but the front desk upgraded us to an ocean front studio and the location was perfect. Stunning view from the lanai and close to everywhere we wanted to be (which was essentially the kids pools and the grill!). Snorkeling off the beach is fantastic and the reef seems to be in much better shape than before. In reading other reviews, it seems that owners tend to get preferential treatment, but everyone we came into contact was incredibly nice and helpful. Mick and Kim at the concierge arranged for us to tour the brand new Nanea property next door. This was a very low-stress sales presentation and although we ended up not purchasing, they were very nice and we received a resort credit for our time. The onsite market and gift shop is quite nice and not overly pricey. Just a short drive north is the Times supermarket or you can go 5 minutes south to Lahaina for the Safeway or Foodland. There are good BBQ gas grills all over the property and barbecuing a few of the nights was a great experience with family and new friends. Our kids are small so a studio was sufficient but if you have older kids, it is definitely worth considering the 1 or 2 bedroom options for more roomReally a fantastic stay - mahalo!
My wife and I visited with a group last week. Reception was nice, staff friendly and helpful. As soon as I opened the door we were greeted with wear and tear of a mid life hotel. The carpet at the sill was frayed and ragged from side to side and looked worn all over. The hotel was built in the 80's and the decor looked like it was from that era. The bar by the pool was small and dingy. I watched a hockey game there one afternoon. Great friendly bar staff, but old nasty looking bar.All in all, not a bad place but certainly in need of an overhaul to bring it up to the price they're asking. I'd say low value for price.
We stayed at the Ka'anapali Westin North for the second part of our honeymoon (first part in Kauai at the Westin Princeville). The hotel lobby is beautiful with an open air view across the large meandering pool and ocean. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. We received an upgrade to an ocean front studio room with an AMAZING view, overlooking the ocean. Our room was a studio room with kitchenette and washer/dryer, king bed, very nice balcony with two chairs and side table. The room was luxurious and well appointed. There are three restaurants at the property - we ate at all three and all were excellent; we found we enjoyed the beach bar immensely. Great food, great music, fun atmosphere, overlooking the ocean. Ocean access is very easy and while the beach is not very wide, it is beautiful with sweeping views. This area of Ka'anapali has many hotels, residential areas, so there are many options within close proximity of the hotel for shopping, restaurants, excursions, etc.
