Westin Kaanapali Ocean Resort Villas
- What's Included
We're owners here but were not satisfied with the level of service this trip. Beach umbrellas and chairs not adequately stocked and sell out quickly. Food and drinks were good, location is good and close to town, great snorkeling. Service in on-site market was fabulous.
When I booked our vacation to Hawaii I was hesitant to book a Westin hotel, because the chain has been declining in quality of accommodations and service in recent years. We read countless mixed reviews but ended up booking with Westin mostly because of their location (we were looking to stay in Lahaina). This was our first trip to Hawaii, and I guess even though I read many books about Hawaiians not being particularly friendly to tourists, I was expecting at least the hotels to be more welcoming. That is not the case here. Don’t expect friendly service, or someone welcoming with a lei of flowers. What is good: -The check-in was quick at this hotel and they register your cell number with them, so you can text the front desk whenever you need anything. That was good and worked fine;-The hotel location is excellent, right in the center of Lahaina;-The hotel grounds are beautiful. There are many water features, big coy fish in the pond, flamingos, a white and a black swan. Two Macaws and a Cockatoo. -We had an ocean facing room and from the balcony we could watch the whales (it was whale season). -The room is spacious and the bathrooms were decently upgraded (we had a Superior Ocean-View Room). The bad:-The resort fee = $30 per day of resort fee that doesn’t give you anything.-Valet parking fee = $45 per day. We got lucky that they were doing repairs on their parking lot, so they waved the fee because you couldn’t use self-parking. -Breakfast = I am glad that this was included in our rate. It is very plain and basic and with taxes you can expect to pay $80 per day per couple. -Cleaning = This was so bad! The only thing the cleaning lady did was to make the bed and change the towels. When we arrived, there were dark hairs on the bathroom floor (my husband and I are both blond) that did not get cleaned thorough our whole stay. I was wearing flip flops to shower mind you. Also, there was a razor blade cover in the shower floor that was never removed. Eventually I used some toilet paper to get rid of it because it was grossing me out. -Friendliness = I mentioned this before, but everybody treated us like they were doing us a favor for being there. Every time I needed something from the cleaning lady she would give me an angry face. -Bedding and towels = the white is not white anymore. One day I had stained towels. The bedding is so yellowish that it looks like it’s been in use for many many years. -Pillows = they must be 10 years old. There is absolutely no head support. My husband and I were using the bath towels rolled up as pillows. I requested some foam pillows instead of the dingy feather pillows, but they were just about the same. -We were supposed to have gotten a $200 dinning credit, but they never credited us with it. The absolutely worst:-The hotel employs a truck load of concierges. Sounds good, right? No, no, no!! The only reason they do that is to try to sell their time-share program. ALL THE TIME! When we arrived, we had not even put our bags down in the room and one of the concierges was already calling us to introduce himself. He wanted us to come down and get our "vacation package", that supposedly included discounts and a tote bag. My husband was not feeling very good, so I decided to go down and get whatever the package was. The package consisted of a super cheap bag with the Westin logo on it, a bunch of brochures of tours, AND a brochure on the time-share. The discounts, resort credit, or SPG points were conditioned on sitting through a time-share presentation. I couldn’t even get a word in as the so-called concierge was blabbing along about the “vacation program” (a.k.a. time-share). You could not talk to ANYONE in this hotel (even the guy at the pool) without hearing about the “vacation program”. And when we finally tried to use a concierge to book a whale watching tour, we were boxed and pressured to go visit the villas. 90 minutes, she said, and you get $100 resort credit. We ended up agreeing, mostly to be able to leave her desk. We ended up wasting a full morning listening to sales talk, and pressure from three separate people on buying a time-share. It was awful. I guess the only good thing about that is that I would never want to buy anything from this company, because I never want to stay at a Westin ever again. So, do not waste your time. I really mean this. The employees must be in a lot of pressure to make sales, because they will chase you down like bees to honey.
We had a fantastic vacation at the Westin. Upon our arrival after a long flight from the east coast of Canada, we met a super friendly Sherry S at the concierge who provided us with great tips and information to make the most of our stay. The next time we saw her, I was impressed she remembered all our names with a friendly smile. Being greeted so kindly was a perfect start to our vacation.
The Westin KOR is our home-away-from-home! We LOVE this resort and can't wait to return year after year! The property is stunning from its gorgeous lobby all the way to the beach (which is just steps away!) The villas are beautifully appointed, shiny, clean and welcoming. The Heavenly beds are soooo soft and where I spent most of my time when I wasn't lying on the beach! As valued guests we are treated like royalty and always with a smile. Our KOR concierge, Mick McCarthy was fun and engaging, and full of great foodie recommendations. We checked them out, and he was spot on!!!
If you've not been to the Westin Kaanapali Ocean Resort Villa 'complex' consisting of 3 incredible properties, you are missing out! The new Property at Nanea is stunning! You will also find the North and South properties as stunning. The staff and the property are incredibly well managed which is a real tribute to their mgmt. team and ALL employees. It simply doesn't matter whether you are talking to the General Manager or someone bringing you a drink at the pool, these people are GREAT! The food.. the bars.. the pools.. the snorkeling.. beach.. the views.. the shuttles.. everything, TOP NOTCH! We stayed there for the Sentry PGA Champions golf tour event in January and NOTHING could be more convenient!! Great golf.. great accommodations! Will be returning for sure!
