Westin Kaanapali Ocean Resort Villas
- What's Included
My family and I look forward to Kor every year! It is our home away from home and what make it special are the workers all are so friendly. Some that stood out to us this year were Dwayne and Roy @ Aqualani and Auntie Lingy and Kai at the Kids Club! We love this place and them!!
We always stay at 5 star resorts. This was definitely above that rating. We were so impressed with this hotel, from the pool, to the beautiful grounds. We will definitely be coming back for sure. Not one complaint about this place. My self, as well as my wife and children were so happy and so sad to leave the beautiful paradise on earth!!!
This review is just about the concierge. When you arrive find Mick McCarthy. He is so friendly and has great recommendations for everything. He recommended restaurants, places to snorkel all without being asked. I wish we met him a week earlier!
We stayed here for 6 nights during our first leg of our Hawaii vacation. This is a large style Westin property. There must be 300+ rooms and a couple different sister properties joined side-by-side together on one large swath of oceanfront property along Kanapali BeachOverall we had nothing to complain about or criticize with regards to our stay. Everything was fairly top-notch. Location - Kanapali beach - conveniently located to all attractions. We were about 45 minutes from the airport, several grocery stores, outlets, shops, restaurants nearby. We did find ourselves traveling to nearby Lahaina-about a 10 minute drive south-for pretty much all activities, luaus, trips to local islands, etc. The specific location itself is a really beautiful beach. Picture Perfect views to lanai and Molokai and sunsets to die for. Property - check out one of our pictures as well as a few online for room selection. The oceanview rooms especially if you're staying in a different location on the island that has ocean views may not be worth the extra money. We had a top floor penthouse level one bedroom suite that looks out to the mainland of Maui island. A peak ocean view from our balcony, but for what it's worth we really enjoyed our view being on the corner top floor. We were specifically building number four. The property itself is everything you possibly need. A lounge area for people who are newly arriving and waiting for the room. They are pretty strict about the rooms not being available until 4 o'clock, so we hopped in our bathing suit and started having a good time while waiting for a room to get ready-the lounge has lockers and what not for securing all items. The pool area itself is pretty awesome. There are several areas specifically for kids and they do a really good job allowing spread out area of enjoyment for all ages. The sister properties within a very short distance walk have other attractions in their pool area and having the ability to go to each of them throughout the week was pretty cool. We highly recommend checking out the pirate ship as well as the fountain and Sandy Beach pool in the two Westin properties to the north. Food - we did not eat at the hotel at all-not even breakfast. We purchased groceries at the grocery store and Costco right when we arrived at the airport and made all breakfasts in the room. Look for one of my pictures as it will show you exactly what they offered on arrival for the suite. You'll need to pick up spices including salt-and-pepper, plastic bags aluminum foil, coffee filters coffee-if you're not into the cheap pods that they offer for the coffee maker. We suggest going to Costco and Whole Foods and you'll be set straight for every breakfast and even lunch if you want. When did up going out to lunch and dinner off property every single night because of the immense supply of awesome restaurants not on property. Room - The room is a large size one bedroom. It is fully equipped suite with full-size washer and dryer, dishwasher and range/oven and fridge. We had north east and east views on our top floor penthouse unit in building four. The rooms are incredibly quiet but the suites do you share an entryway door that leads to two separate room areas in the event somebody wanted to rent two rooms directly together. Although they don't connect the entry door opens to two different rooms which is different. As a result we didn't hear the family in the room next-door from time to time but it was nothing out of hand by any means. I understand that not every room has a lanai/balcony. We requested one it was nice having it but honestly because we are close to the highway/main road outside and because of the consistent wind we really didn't use the balcony at all. Service. Four large property overall service was attentive and for the prompt. Any request that was made was handled promptly as one would expect not to shorten it too long. Not truly exceptional but nothing like last week either. All very decent and good. Overall Pros - it's what you expect with your typical Westin brand. Good location, nothing ever seemed overly crowded, service was on par, and rooms were spacious and nice. Easy access to the beach. Really awesome pool amenities. Cons. as with most Starwood properties you get nickel and dimed at every turn. Expect to pay $15 a night to park in the parking lot, you can also pay five dollars more for valet Each night. In and around the pool areas they have premium placed canopies and premium seating. They reserve the ceilings, like they do in Las Vegas pools, for an additional surcharge. You can get one of these premium areas for $60-$80 per day and you have to reserve it in advance. You noted to go to the beach if you want to rent chairs and an umbrella those cost money as well. $20 for an umbrella and $10 per chair for all day. Internet/Wi-Fi is free, thankfully. That's all the things I remember getting charge for that I thought were somewhat Ludacris. Conclusion. This is a nice place for a decent value . In order to be 5 star it would need to be exceptional - honestly would have to take a lot less people and a lot nicer fit and finish, amenities, hyper service oriented staff and exclusivity which this will never be. We had a great time and recommend it to anybody traveling with the family. We were traveling with our two-year-old and it will be memories for a lifetime.
Being a bit north from the crowded Ka'anapali beach the Westin Ka'anapali Ocean Resort Villas is a good place for families. Decent beach and pools. Rooms are bigger than the standard hotel. Some do not have balconies so be sure to request one because switching can be tricky. Limited access to restaurants and shopping but shuttle helps.
