Can't improve on one thing

From the moment we arrived at the hotel, we felt welcomed. The valet staff and bell staff were spot on and fast to assist us. I was told that the wait for your car could take over 30 minutes on busy weekends, but we found this not to be the case during the week. The front desk person was friendly, accommodating, professional and actually pretty funny. Jean Charles showed us to our suite, and could not have been more pleasant. The suite it's self was quite spacious, nicely appointed and equipped. We ordered room service and were not disappointed. Although we ordered basic room service food-pizza and a burger, it was presented nicely and was very tasty. All in all, I can not fault the hotel on one single thing. Rush hour in Miami is just that-a rush. Nothing will change that. But staying at a top notch hotel makes it just that much more bearable.. Can't wait to go back-and in fact have already booked my next visit.

Rent the Concierge Level

We were very pleased with the Kimpton. When we walked-in, we were immediately escorted to the concierge level. We had rented an Epic 29 water view 1 Bedroom Suite. Our room was immediately available, and was exactly what we expected. Everything worked.Well, everything worked, except the television in the living area. When we arrived, there was no signal at all. They did something that restored the signal, but there was some minor pixelating. On the morning of day two, the picture was entirely pixelated, and the sound was intermittent. This type of deferred maintenance is unacceptable. The television in the bedroom worked fine, but we had rented a suite so that we wouldn't have to sit in the bedroom. They fixed the pixelating problem on day two by replacing some of the components.Day three, the living space television would not come on at all. Ok, now I am irritated. Again they fixed it promptly. But three separate television issues in three days was too much.I will give the engineering man who fixed the television kudos as he was extremely prompt and friendly.I will also give an atta girl to Agatha who took care of our room.My wife tried the spa and was very pleased. The hospitality room for the concierge level was always well stocked, and the staff bent over backwards to be helpful.Ok, I debated for five days deciding whether I should mark them down a dot because of the TV problems. I decided not to, because the reader can be his own judge.

Luxury but Some Incongruous Features

Nice big room, 2 queen beds, lots of closet and drawer space, 44" TV, huge bathroom. But why a 4x5-foot open window between the bedroom and bath (so you can lie in bed and watch your wife take a shower and dry her hair?). Free wine in the lobby from 5 to 6 sounds nice but there are only 2 mediocre wines and no snacks at all. No coffee maker in the room is a bummer in the morning and amenities in the room are frightfully expensive: toothbrush $5, cork screw $5, package of nuts $9, club soda $5. Service is marginal: we dragged our 4 bags from the taxi to the check-in and then to our room -- no porter service was ever offered.

This hotel was average

We began with a great ride from the airport. When we got out of the limo, we had to lug our 6 bags into the hotel before we got any assistance. A cab driver outside saw my daughter and I struggling with the bags and helped get them inside. The consierge did give us service and sent us to a great Italian. The room was average and needed little repairs. They didn't have the tickets for breakfast when we checked in, but did deliver them.

Parking and access is terrible

While the Area 31 restaurant was ok, the parking and attitude of the staff was terrible. The "standard" delivery time for your car parked by valet (the only option available) is 15 to 20 minutes per the parking attendants. In addition, double parking of the Bentley's and Ferrari's in the drive mean only one line in and out. So expect to wait another 10 minutes once you have your car to get out. Too many good places in Miami to have to stand for this kind of service.
