Newport Beachside Resort
- What's Included
I booked this hotel for a large group on business travel all into sea view suites. They messed up payment so all of my guests were charged despite pre-arranged alternate payment plans. It took me 1.5hours to organise this when i arrived which is valuable time when organising a conference elsewhere! My staff felt the place was unclean and wifi was poor. Cockroaches present in some rooms.
Positive:- Stores across the road. (CVS & Marshals)- Subway and Subway across the road- Allow you to bring your own food and beverages to the pool and on the beach.Negative:- Pool and most of the beach was covered in shade around noon. - Not enough chairs to sit by the pool and beach. Only given one towel.- Very pushy with timeshare/condo presentation request. Would not take no for an answer. - Under construction - very loud, annoying, and woke us up early. Could not have a phone conversation due to the loud noise.- Room and third floor smell horrible (very strong, horrible smell)- City view room not an accurate description. Window was covered by palm trees.- Resort fee of $25 per person per day in addition to your hotel rate.- They operate an office on the third floor in a hotel room that is beside and across from other hotel rooms. Lots of traffic and very loud employees. - Dirty hotel room. Stains on sheets, floor, and curtains.- Beach had a lot of beer bottle caps - wear shoes.
So my main problems with the hotel is the pictures provided (management photos) on their website and on trip advisor. I was really nervous after reading reviews that made it seem run down in person. The outside could use a a coat of paint and pressure wash, but the lobby area is gorgeous and the pool area is nice also. The hallways need a deep clean to include the rugs and the walls need to be painted in the hallways and rooms. The paint in my room was actually chipping off. The balcony needs to be upgraded, the rails were not very sturdy and the brick was chipping. The second issue was the WIFI which did not work the entire time I was there. I specially choose a hotel that had WIFI because I still had to work remotely and if you are the same I would not recommend this hotel, I saw it in the reviews but I did not heed the warning, I ended up creating a hotspot on my phone and connecting my computer. I had to pay a lot of overage fees in order to do my work. The hotel seems to be understaffed but the staff that are there are very helpful, attentive and nice, especially housekeeping. I wasn't expecting the nice whirlpool tub in the room (a bit dated but it worked) and it was a nice surprise. It was around spring break and even though I saw a lot of parties checking in the hotel was not very noisy.
Beautiful lobby and beach area but rooms need a lot of work. Bathroom is very dangerous with no area for shower water to drain, it all just pools around the toilet making it very slippery. If you're going for the beach, the sun is gone early afternoon behind the taller buildings. Check in was 4 but was told room would be ready by 130 or 2 and they would call me as soon as ready. Still waiting on the call. Had to approach front desk multiple times even after 4pm then room cards were just handed over, felt like room was ready entire time we were waiting. Silly to have a resort fee when check in is 4pm and checkout on Sunday is 10am, hardly enough time to enjoy the resort portion of hotel. Would go back if rooms were improved. Service was good overall, except beach guys, they were not helpful or friendly at all. Beds are super hard.
This OLDER hotel in Miami was smaller and older but still very comfortable for the price. We had 8 of us and we booked the 2 bedroom suites (separate bedrooms- king beds and livingrooms with sofabeds-queen )on groupon. It was more of two adjoining rooms but that worked well for us. It was right on the beach. The pools were older but there were beach loungers on the beach for use and free. The pier next door had AWESOME food and pretty reasonable for Miami. Parking was an extra 20 dollars for self park and 25 for valet. The parking lot was across the street if you have little ones keep that in mind. It is a very busy road. There are restaurants within walking distance and a little starbucks on site with snack food. I'm not sure if there was a restaurant in the hotel. There was laundry and it was pretty reasonable. You were able to book excursions with the hotel as well. The nice thing was that if you got there early and your room wasn't ready you could check your bags with the hotel, grab your swim suits and they will give you a card to grab a towel so you could wait outside near the pool, hot tub, or beach. This is not the top of the line hotel (however a man I met there said Marriott had bought them out and the hotel was going to under go huge renovations in the near future) however if you're not a snob and just enjoy kicking back in a descent hotel room ON THE BEACH IN MIAMI then this will be suitable for you. If you're looking for Ritz Carlton level hotel this is not the hotel for you. Very family oriented and man it smelled great in the lobby!
