- What's Included
We'd planned our trip and booked this hotel 10 months in advance so had been checking everyone's reviews over that time, some were good and some were not! We personally really enjoyed our stay. You do need to realise that your in New York it's going to be compact.... unless of course you want to spend $500 a night on a room! The Amsterdam Court is clean, well serviced, someone makes your bed everyday changes the towels and generally cleans your room. The bed we had was very comfortable giving us good night's sleep which you need after all the the sight seeing you're doing. I will say though it does need a lick of paint but hey ho! you're not spending all day in your room (well I hope not) so don't be put off by that!! All the staff are friendly and very helpful (Alicia Susan Tom and Ben) offer advise on excursions etc.. (please take it as they live there we don't!!) We'd like to say a special thank Alicia for all her help and advice. As for the location it's literary round the corner from Times Square! They also offer a transport service to and from the airport so worth giving them a ring. We'll definitely book here again.
I have been to this hotel for 1 week with my baby is my husband, really friendly staff and perfect cleanliness, we really found the beautiful people. Every evening at the disposal of my baby to warm up the microwave milk! A special thanks goes to Robert, Alicia and Eric!!! Thank you. We will definitely be returning!!!
Only downside was shower. It went from scolding hot to freezing and never stayed at same temp. You had to jump in and out. Location was amazing. Staff was very helpful. Bed was not the comfiest but it did the job. I would definitely stay here again.
Although the location cannot be beat, if you want to be in midtown Manhattan, there has to be much more than that for us to ever return to this hotel for too many reasons. Here are the positives:Location-theater district, heart of Times Square, easy walk to Radio City and Rockefeller Center, etc. Subway and restaurants very close. A very inexpensive breakfast place up at 54th and 8th avenue (approximately) where you 2 can enjoy eggs for $10, coffee included. Free coffee for guests a floor down from the lobby-but not all day and night, and no tea.CONS:Location right in Times Square-loud, especially if you are in a room on 50th St. VERY VERY small rooms that need serious upgrading (loud plumbing, mildew in grout on floor tiled at least 25 years ago, missing grout between bathroom tiles in shower, old fixtures in bathroom, rugs fraying, desk worn out, lamp shade on ceiling lamp had dents in it (leaves you wondering what had gone on there), impossible to use the toilet unless you sit on it sideways, etc), Uncomfortable bedding (woke up with a back ache every day we stayed) No coffee maker/tea in room, EXPENSIVENo room amenities. No free wifi in room.STAFF--Unprofessional manner with which the front desk clerk responded to people upon both our arrival and our departure. Male front desk clerk on duty all 4 days of our stay (11/23-11/27). Arguments on phone with guests both times, without apology. Upon our departure, the argument was loud and embarrassing, and it was an easy fix. But the man just repeated over and over again the same thing...At check-in we asked for a quiet room, and this same front desk clerk stated that the room was in a quiet place in the hotel. However, the room was on the 3rd floor on 50th Street. LOUD and BRIGHT. We are light sleepers and light sensitive or we don't sleep well, which is why we asked for a quiet room.During our stay, only 1 person greeted us as we were entering or exiting the hotel. The front desk always had at least 2 people working it, but they were very busy in their private conversations to say Good Morning, Hello, Have a nice day--anything at all to make us feel that the price we dumped into their dump was worth it because of the human touch. In our honest opinion, this hotel is a slight step up from a motel. In fact, we have stayed in nicer, cleaner, friendlier motels than this place. We have stayed in 4 star hotels at a cheaper price than this place, right in NYC.A block away is the Hilton Garden Inn on 8th at almost 50th. Their price for the same time period was cheaper. Stay there instead.
Great location, great Irish bar next door, Applebee's across the road and Ellen's Stardust Diner too! All night shop/pharmacy in the corner. Very comfortable bed, but room was small and tiny corner window with a view of a wall. That said, we just slept there. No free wifi in your room. Room 302
