I was looking for a place to stay in midtown that would come to under $1000 for three nights. I found it in this little hotel and we had a great trip. The location couldn't be better, just steps from Times Square and subways and a short walk from Central Park. The room was tiny but clean and had everything we needed. The staff were friendly and helpful. Would definitely stay here again.
I have stayed here before and swore I wouldn't go back but I was desperate because a convention was in town and all of the other hotels were either full or twice their regular price so I booked a room here. The hotel is a block and a half from the theater district and is next to a subway sandwich shop on one side and the Palm Hotel on the other side. At night the street is very dark. The elevator is tiny. There is only free wifi on the roof and in the lobby. The price was 246 a night. If you book in advance at the Marriott you can get a room there for the same price. When I requested a wake up call because I had an early flight out of LGA I gave my room number and time I wanted to be woken. The guy transposed the time I wanted to be woken with my room number so I corrected him. I then called from my room to make sure he fixed his error. He was quite dismissive and said "yeah yeah I got it." He never called. Luckily, by some miracle I woke up on my own. When I gave him my room key he said that he couldn't find my room and thought I was on the 5th floor. I again told him that I was not on the 5th floor and he had yet again transposed my room number with the time I wanted to be woken up. I understand my room was for one person but I have stayed at the Hilton on the Avenue of the Americas, the Millennium, Sheraton Times Square, W on the East Side, Waldorf and Hudson for the same price or less than I paid to stay at this hotel and they all had larger rooms. From the room at the Amsterdam Court I could hear noise from the street and smell aftershave from a person in the hallway.
We stayed 4 nights at this lovely quaint hotel for our honeymoon was pleased we had quite a nice large room very comfortable bed nice large shower freindly helpful staff and clean and loved our stay and would stay again in the near future very close to theatres and all amenities needed and attractions 😊 M Russell
The first time we stayed at the Amsterdam Court hotel, I was charmed by the great location (one block from Times Square) at 50th and right across the street from the theater where Wicked is in a long run. So we decided to return. We reserved a room. All was well until we entered the room, it was tiny and old. There was no light in the room, and a window unit A/C that struggled to cool the room, even though it was tiny and not hot outside. The bathroom toilet has a small wall in front, meaning you could not even sit straight on the toilet. It was not comfortable. We complained, and the managers moved us to another room. However, this room did not have a functioning A/C, so we complained again. They finally upgraded us to the "Superior King Room" at the front (windows look out on 50th Street) of the hotel. This room was great - just as it was in our first visit. If you stay here, be sure you have a Superior King room, and at the front of the hotel if possible. Most other rooms are not comfortable in my view. The hotel is otherwise good, and the sushi restaurant connected is absolutely excellent, especially the box lunches, which a very generous and delicious. While I recommend this place, just be careful which room you reserve. The staff was very accommodating and our stay turned much more pleasant once we got the the Superior King room.
Booked reservation through my credit card reward points. Had confirmation, but for some reason they had nothing. Had to literally sit in the lobby for 30 minutes while they waited on the reservation desk to return their call. Rooms are small and not worth the money.
