Really happy we stayed at this hotel for our stay in NYC. the location is obviously great. right in the middle of everything. The bed was very comfortable. there is plenty of storage and the en-suite was excellent. The staff were also really good.

Weird Policies

I travel very often and stay at different hotels every time, this is my second stay at a Hyatt. My first stay was lovely! No bumps, nothing weird. This time was different. The hotel room for this occasion was gifted to myself and a family member. During the room purchase online, I guess the option to pay the hotel directly versus through Expedia was chosen. Meaning that the charge would be made upon arrival directly to the hotel. But apparently this also meant the card that was on file to reserve the room couldn't be used - meaning that I had to pay for the room when I arrived. I've never experienced this before so I don't think it's standard policy but I could be wrong in thinking it's strange. Unfortunately my debit card was charged before I was told the total to be charged, causing my account to overdraft before the charge reversal could go through. Secondly, I ordered a $53 bottle of champagne via room service one night. On my final tab, after the service charge and taxes were added, this somehow skyrocketed to $80. Another absurd charge was $3 per bag to have the hotel hold our luggage until our train later that day. For a 4 star hotel this should be a complementary service. As for the receptionists I worked with in the hotel lobby, I only spoke with 1 of 3 that I felt genuinely wanted to help me and patiently explain these policies. The hotel room was extremely large, crisp in decor and design, and very clean. Unfortunately, the combinations of weird charges and policies have soured my taste for Hyatt hotels. I won't be staying at any again in the future.

Not what it once was

Room was dated as always this hotel needs to be renovated wallpaper coming off the walls in the bathroom the hotel felt good and towels and washcloths and then after stating they would bring them failed to bring them I'm a globalist member that stays over 100 nights a year with Hyatt very disappointed in this property

Great experience

From the valet parking, to the check out kiosk, everyone was very friendly with us! It was our first visit to New York City, what a chaotic city! However, giving the location of the Hotel, (walking distance to the Grand Central Subway Station), it made everything so much convenient.

Average, that's all....

I was most excited when I was told we were booked at the Grand Hyatt NYC for business. Unfortunately I must say I didn't depart the hotel feeling over excited about my stay.We had 3 rooms booked on a $13.5k package so this was a good booking for the hotel.I approached the hotel prior to the stay and prompted them a few parcels were going to arrive a day prior to my check in.. I was absolutely flabbergasted to hear that I was going to be charged significantly high charges for this by the concierge. Then they added that even throughout my stay as a guest I would also be charged.Thankfully my cousin lives in NYC and I had the parcels directed to her.Seriously, my belief is that it is greedy to charge guests to receive mail. Even a letter was going to be at a cost! No five star hotel I've ever stayed at (and that is a lot of hotels globally), have ever charged anything for receiving mail and delivering it to my room.The hotel is in a good location.The staff service was average. For this status of hotel, you would expect highly trained happy staff.We requested recommendations for dinner, to which the staff advised us to stay in the hotel restaurants and refused up give us external eatery suggestions.The 3rd day in we were not given any towels. This would not have been an issue if this didn't happen another 2 days in a row.On a seperate day we were not replenished with bathroom amenities.Overall no major problems, but not what you would expect from a hotel of such expense and status.For the price I would definitely stay somewhere else.
