Upon checking in, I asked if I can get a complimentary room upgrade with my Hyatt diamond status. I originally booked for the "view king room " but based on availability, Hyatt usually give me double upgrade, but the agent only offered me an upgrade with $200 surcharge. I declined. I grumbled and she offered me another upgraded room for $50 surcharge. They clearly have the better room available yet refused to give me a complimentary upgrade I deserve. I was angry about how she treated me. Also she didn't activate my key card accessible to the club level on 16th floor, so my key didn't work to get me to the club room where they serve evening h'ordeuvres. I complained to other agent named Ashley and she promised to give me 20,000 bonus points for the inconvenience. Most of the time, your stay is totally depend on who you deal with. I was so unlucky with the first agent, but the other agent made it worth a while for my inconvenience.
Having stayed there previously we knew what to expect in terms of location and quality. We were given a lovely spacious room with wonderful views of the Chrysler building opposite. The check in was fast and efficient as was the check out process. The concierge service was fantastic and not only did they help us book to see a great new CirqueDuSoleil show they also helped locate a local doctor to assist us with treating a minor ailment. As mentioned in the title the location was the important factor for us and not only were we close to Times Square and other attractions we were also close to Pen St Station which is where we came in and left New York by. The only detraction I would proffer is that the toilet was jammed in between the vanity and shower screen and that didn't make for easy or comfortable use.
So, where do I start? Since we arrived no one offered to take our bags, we had to find our way to the front desk, our designated room wasn't ready so they offered us another room of course we had to pay the difference for the upgrade. So here is how it went; The Good:• Great location• Close to Central Station, Times Square, Bryant Park, and all kinds of other great places to see• Ample lobby• Small Market open 24/7The Bad:• Room had a humid stench• 2 pillow covers had yellow stains on them• Chairs were torn at the corners• Restroom door was cracked, YES cracked• There were dead bugs stuck to the ceiling of the bathroom, at least 5 or 6• And probably the worst part was arriving back to the room to a door that wouldn't open for 2 straight nights. Spoke to three different people and the lock issue still wasn't resolved until the day we were checking out.But I was offered free breakfast and bonus points for all of this so I guess they figure that will help offset the bad experience.
My partner and I stayed here for the first night of our trip to New York. We was staying with friends for the rest of the trip but if we had been staying here then I would have been happy. Its not cheap but it is a very luxurious hotel and its in a great location as its right next to Grand Central.
One of the worst Hyatt Hotels in the country. Staff members are rude. Hotel has a hard time honoring simple requests - even for Diamond members. Extremely poor management team. Rooms are old and not clean.
