Holiday Inn Downtown Soho
- What's Included
I booked a room here as a very brief staycation and chose it because it was the cheapest Hilton room in New York City. I really just wanted a place to stay the night and focus on my writing, but I discovered this actually is a really great location. It's right next to the Holland Tunnel, which made me a bit apprehensive walking up to the hotel, but I didn't hear a sound in my street-facing room on the seventh floor. The front desk staff was amazing and constantly courteous. The room itself is possibly the smallest room I've stayed at in Manhattan, but it was still comfortable and had all of the comforts I expect in a Hampton Inn property. The bathroom was absolutely gorgeous with a sleek, modern sink and shower. I slept wonderfully in the bed and was completely rested when I woke up. In the morning, I headed down for the complimentary breakfast and the hotel has one of the best spaces for breakfast at the Hampton Inns I've stayed at. Half of it is in in a structure that still feels very much part of the hotel, the other half almost looks like it's in an old greenhouse, letting natural light pour into the space.Tourists: This actually a great location. It's not too far from NYU, the boutiques of SoHo, and the Spring Street C/E subway station. If you go to that subway station, you can get to Times Square and the World Trade Center and 9/11 Memorial and Museum easily. Or, if you like walking, World Trade Center is about a mile away. It's not my favorite New York City hotel, but I think this is a great gem for travelers who want a fuss-free stay, a good value, or aren't into boutique hotels. And a huge thank you to Shakira at the front desk for getting me all set for my room in under 30 seconds! I check in on my Hilton Honors app and still usually wait at the front desk.
Great location but heating cooling units need updates. I stay at this hotel whenever I come to NYC and have had only one bad night’s sleep due to the poor heating unit. Although it is located near the Holland tunnel it is one of the quietest hotels in the city.
As we stayed in the off-season (early January) the price was fantastic considering the excellent location right in SoHo. The rooms were surprisingly large and pretty comfortable. The room was very clean. The breakfast and lobby area was a bit messy, but to be fair there was a major snowstorm and it was very crowded, so things were a bit crazy.Complimentary breakfast was standard, but there were some hot options and the food was decent. My only real issues were the shortage of luggage carts and the parking situation. The hotel said there was parking, but it's actually a separately owned garage several blocks away which gives you a discount with a hotel-stamped ticket.Overall was a good stay.
The location, on Canal Street, is simply terrible. All night long there is noise and sirens of cars. The room itself is small and shabby. The worst thing was the air conditioner that worked intermittently, occasionally warming and freezing. In addition, it is a very old air conditioner that sits on the floor and is very noisy.I called for help about it three times. Then I stopped calling the receptionist and slept with my coat.In fact, between the sirens outside and the noise of the air conditioner, the heat, the cold and the dryness, I could not sleep for more than half an hour.Since an agent had booked the room for me, they allowed themselves to belittle me and take me for granted. My request to move to a room or a hotel - from the same network - encountered an outright rejection.Breakfast is served with disposable utensils and in very small quantities. After the first morning I preferred to have my coffee in one of the great cafes New York offers and not to enter their dining room again. The staff was nice and smiling, but it did not solve the many problems I experienced there. In conclusion, you are invited to see my other reviews on hotels in Europe and you will see for yourself that I do not have excessive demands and that I am not particularly critical. My experience here was terrible and I will never return to this hotel. What's more, I will not even get to Hampton Inn.
Excellent location, Very friendly, attentive and knowledgeable staff. Room was clean and spacious, Tasty coffee and pastries in the lobby for a quick breakfast, reasonably priced happy hour in the lobby bar. Would definitely stay here again.
