This moderate Downtown Manhattan hotel in Soho is surrounded by prime shopping and dining and some of the top fashion houses in New York like Chanel, Prada and Ferragamo. Newly renovated rooms are comfortable and offer a choice of soft or hard pillows and complimentary internet access.
Location: In Soho, Manhattan. Within easy walking distance to Little Italy, Chinatown, Tribeca and shopping on Canal Street. 16km to LaGuardia Airport and 22km from Newark Airport.

Noise and the Union!

If you are in a lower floor in this hotel you will hear noise from the road outside due to proximity to the Holland Tunnel. However street noise is a common problem in New York. However the real noise in the lower floors is caused by the building mechanical systems, constant rumbling and vibration all day / all night. I asked for a room change on day two and the only way they could facilitate this was for me to check out at 11am and check back in at 3pm. There was no budging on this policy as the workers union won't facilitate any flexibility whatsoever. Housekeepers start at 9am, but do not commence cleaning rooms until 11am. A polite request to have the room I was being moved to cleaned first on the schedule was not entertained either. Otherwise, as New York standards go, the hotel is value for money at $135 a night, I would not like to pay $300!

Perfect for what we needed

Stayed here for five nights recently. This hotel is perfect for what we wanted as first time visitors to the city. The room was comfortable with two double beds ( we were checked in early at no extra cost after a sixteeen hour flight-thank you Tiana at reception ). Bathroom was clean and everything worked. Room has no fridge but has a coffee maker. TV has plenty channels. Noise from the street ( which can get very busy as it's a main thoroughfare to the tunnel going to New Jersey ) can hardly be heard. Breakfast was basic but just what was needed. All crockery and cutlery are disposable and it's all self service. The hotel was busy the day we left ( Martin Luther King Jr day ) which is always a good sign. There is an ATM in the bar. There are two Canal Street subway stations very close to the hotel which serve a total of four routes ( number 1 and the A,C and E routes ). The hotel is ten minutes walk from the Soho part of Broadway and twenty minutes walk from Chinatown and Little Italy. We felt safe at all times, day or night. This hotel is close to nightlife and shopping. All staff were friendly. Definitely enjoyed our stay.

Great value and location.

I know that some reviews have mentioned smallish rooms (fairly standard for NYC) and somewhat outdated decor. Yes, the carpet, wallpaper, and furniture in my room have seen better days. Those things matter more to some people, but did not affect my stay or satisfaction whatsoever.Location is on the edge of Soho, within a 15-20 minute walk to Greenwich Village (north), Little Italy and Chinatown (east), and the financial district (south). Walk north on Hudson St. past Greenwich Village, and you'll be at the southern end of the High Line (elevated rail line turned into public park) in 30 minutes or so. Shopaholics will have a field day as soon as they cross 6th Ave. (Avenue of the Americas) into the heart of Soho. There are two nearby subway stations, Spring Street (blue A/C/E lines) 3 blocks to the north, and Canal St. (red 1/2 lines) 2 blocks to the south.My check-in experience was fantastic; got a warm welcome, my HHonors Gold water/snacks, a fresh cookie, and room key in only a minute or so. Room on 15th (out of 19) floors, facing south and overlooking Watts St., which is the entry route to the Holland Tunnel. This could make south-facing rooms somewhat noisier on weekdays, but it has been a non-issue for me on this MLK Day weekend. If you are concerned, ask for a room on the north side of the hotel, facing Broome St. Best views should be in the top 2-3 floors, facing north towards midtown, Empire State Bldg, etc. The hotel has a very small footprint; each floor has only 8-10 rooms and very short hallways.Though small and looking a bit dated, my king bed room is comfortable, and perfectly fine for 1-2 people. Coffee maker but no microwave/fridge, and not enough floor space for anything like a rollaway. Bed is extremely comfortable. Dresser, desk/chair, and an upholstered chair next to the bed provided all the space I needed. Bathroom has been nicely remodeled, with sliding door shower. Cable tv has about 50 channels.Free breakfast is on par with other Hamptons I've stayed at, with plenty of hot/cold choices. Breakfast staff were friendly and efficient. The breakfast area is spacious, with plenty of tables and comfortable chairs. Outside of breakfast hours, the hotel provides free coffee/tea and hot chocolate. Also, even on weekends, breakfast starts at 6am for early risers (like me).All in all, Hampton Inn Soho has been a pleasant surprise, and is a great alternative for those willing to stay a bit further from major tourist areas.

Noisy and cramped room, too close to Holland Tunnel

Small rooms. You hear car horns honking all night long because of being so close to the Holland Tunnel. Uber had a hard time getting to the hotel because of Holland tunnel traffic. Free breakfast was not bad. Had to pay for premium Internet to get enough speed to do work. The complementary Internet was too slow and kept dropping.

location is good; pretty close to subway; room was clean but broken towel rack and shower curtain in the bathroom; staff was unhelpful re some very basic requests and actually lied re availability; i took steps to get what i needed my self directly from housekeeping
