Holiday Inn Downtown Soho
- What's Included
This was a nice hotel to stay in while visiting Manhattan. Located in the SoHo area of New York, close to a lot of things. The city view rooms were spectacular with a view of the Empire State Building. The breakfast was nice with a lot of variety with hot items included. The 24 hour coffee and tea were a nice touch also.
Avoid this hotel! The hotel itself is average and the rooms are okay - although need updating. And the air conditioners are very noisy - fortunately I didn't use mine. But the worst thing about this hotel - which is not its fault - is the traffic noise. Specifically the incessant and angry honking of horns - oh from about 3.00pm to anywhere near 10pm on a weekend. You see, Watts Street is the entrance to the Holland Tunnel to New Jersey and it's just two lanes wide. American drivers are so aggressive (and dumb) that they think by keeping their hands pressed hard against their car's horn that the traffic will magically disappear... I was originally allocated a room at the front - overlooking this mayhem. The double-pane windows do nothing to eliminate the noise. As I was staying for 8 nights the staff very kindly moved me to a rear room, which helped a lot. But I could still hear this dreadful noise in the distance. It didn't make any difference whether it was a weekday or weekend. Friends staying a couple of blocks away in another hotel could also hear it, as the traffic backs up all round to get to New Jersey. So clearly, its not the fault of the hotel - but avoid this Watts Street area at all costs if you want a decent night's sleep
Great location!Professional ,knowledgeable and courteous staff. Clean well designed rooms and comfortable bed and bedding. Wonderful toiletries. Delicious and well prepared breakfast menu and fresh coffee!
We chose this hotel to stay within the Hilton chain and because it looked like a convenient location to some of the things we were going to see. It checked all of the boxes and was a very pleasant surprise. We even got a rate adjustment 24 hours before our stay upon request when I saw the online price had dropped significantly. I call it a budget hotel because it was very inexpensive for what it was but it may have been an off weekend. Elevators were fast. We stayed on the 18th floor and had a view of the Empire State Bldg. Only problem was the construction site next door which started up work at 7 am. If you were on a lower floor (say 12 or lower) it would have been very loud on that side of the bldg. The best surprise was the wonderful free breakfast. It was a full breakfast and was delicious.
Very nice sized rooms. Well-appointed, very modern-looking. Very clean even with the construction next door. Good breakfast and a friendly staff. Seems to be well situated in SoHo. Good restaurants in the area.
