Holiday Inn Midtown
- What's Included
The only highlight of this hotel was its roof top pool and even that had silly opening hours (no early morning and closed in the evening so couldn't swim around work hours). Internet was incredibly slow (slower than dial up) so couldn't get any work done as I couldn't even load a web page. Rooms were dated (who still uses wallpaper in bathrooms?!) and only just about functional. Reception staff and manager were useless and even calling the company that run their internet couldn't help even tho they advertise fast internet for large buildings.
I was a bit worried due to some of the comments I've read before I booked this hotel but decided to book it cause it was in a decent price and has a pool.I'm very happy I did that! This hotel is fantastic! off course there are some flaws but keep in mind this is a 3 stars hotel not 5 so don't expect a 5* level. however for a 3* hotel the watson hotel is perfect!Pros :- POOL- The ROOFTOP- nice location. not very far from the subway (7-10 minutes walk), very close to busses.- I was in the corner deluxe room - room size was great! bed size was great! comfy.- Cleaning - wonderful! very clean and cleaners super nice!- bar staff was very nice (prices are a bit much at the bar.)- all of the staff was great, desk receptions, security, bar, pool, everyone who works at that hotel was very friendly to me.Cons :- yes the room was not all quiet... and I payed for a corner deluxe room. You hear the toilets (maybe also the shower) from the room above and you can hear off course the doors next to you/in-front of you. I've heard radio from the room next to me cause it was loud (but I waited till they turned it off) I have to say , I realllly like quiet in my room and I could have lived with that room so it's not that terrible.- aircon - was a bit noisy and for me the temperature was cold so I did'nt turned it on almost never so after a while it stopped making noises (like click sounds)- elevators - kinda slow and shaky but not as bad as described in other comments.- Don't expect to much of a view from your room. however from the roof theres a great view.- didn't care for the bath, to short to take bathes and the shower tap wasn't a very great one. but there was always hot water and I enjoyed the relaxing shower products.- one of the days there was a problem with the wi-fi (they said it was the whole area problem) it was really a big deal to me as I came for work purposes and couldn't work for several hours, they couldn't find me any solution to the problem.I think at least, if you don't have any solution, a small compensation would have been in place due to the fact I really needed the internet connection and had to stop working for few hours...OVERALL : I do recommend this hotel and I had great time in it. not a 5* hotel but really a great 3* hotel.
Stayed only for a few hours. A/C was not working and front desk lied about repairs be done during the night. Very humid and bad air circulation; in addition smokers are allowed inside the building. I requested a full refund and I had to move with my family (four members) at 11:00 p.m. to another hotel. Management was very arrogant and did not apologized for lying about the A/C . I even ask if they could get a taxi for us and the response was: "We do not offer that type of service". Our first day in NY was a night mare. Please be aware that if you suffer allergies and/or asthma this hotel will get you sick. Be patient and do reservation on time and you will get a better place at the same price
Although the staff at the front desk was very friendly, the rooms has a lot to be desired. I stayed at this hotel this month. The A/C unit in both rooms where not working. Yes! both rooms because i had to call front desk to get another room because A/C wasn't working, just to move to another room with the same problem. Serious upgrade is needed. This units seriously are from early 90's. maybe late 80's.. Very uncomfortable sleep. Good luck with parking, bring your check book..
First, the good ... 1. Outstanding location within comfortable walking distance of the Theater District, Times Square, and Central Park.2. Easy access to many casual dining establishments, bars, and delis.3. Friendly staff including bellhops, housekeeping, and front desk. 4. I have a child with special dietary needs that requires we refrigerate several staple items. They very kindly provided a small refrigerator gratis. Now, the bad ... 1. The biggest issue was my air conditioner. It ran, but didn't cool the air. I called for service and a maintenance professional promptly showed up and, well, did something. After he left I kept waiting for it to get cool, but it never did. Here's the thing, I give a place one chance to make things right, and if they don't, I chalk it up to a disregard for customer satisfaction. Thankfully for us we spent the majority of our time outside and it was unseasonably cool as Augusts usually go in Manhattan. So, our room was bearable, but it was stuffy and warm. Bottom line: it wasn't as comfortable as I would have liked.2. The second biggest problem was how noisy the plumbing was. I was all too aware of when anyone else in the hotel flushed a toilet, took a shower, or washed their hands. 3. The windows were FILTHY. I mean they were caked with grime. 4. The carpeting was kind of sticky. For me, that just sets off all my germaphobia alarms. It makes me think the whole room is unclean. It wasn't, but still, I was on edge about it. 5. There was no fan in the bathroom. This made venting the moisture and heat from showers impossible. This only made the air conditioning issue worse.6. The elevators are TINY. I mean super tiny. Maybe four people could fit comfortably. Add in bell carts or luggage or more people and it's just better to wait for the next one. Or the one after that. Or the one after that. 7. Then there was a general lack of attention to detail ... I found a foot-long strip of masking tape in place from when they repainted the doorframe ... There was a glob of ground-in black goo on the carpet by the sink ... we had a room for four and only three sets of towels ... there wasn't a shelf in the bathroom for me to set my glasses on ... it's these little things that I just take for granted that the hotel hadn't thought of. The Watson could be something great because of it's ideal location, and they very well may be working toward it. Unfortunately, they are far from it at this time.
