Holiday Inn Midtown
- What's Included
I would NEVER recommend this Hotel. It was disgusting! It was very outdated, musty, hot, & NASTY! Dust everywhere, mold, stains...etc. I had a reservation for 4 people & was only given 3 towels & wash clothes. We tried several times to get In Touch with the front desk & they wouldn't answer. Awful experience. The pictures online are very deceiving. Also, a Juno driver told us, that it was recently a Holiday Inn.
I had a very unpleasant experience at this hotel.I travel all the time, I have been to 82 countries and thousands of cities and I have never encountered anyone as rude as Juliana at the check-in.Originally, I booked two nights over a month before arrival on hotels.com. A couple of weeks prior to arrival I decided to come one day earlier so I went to their own website and booked one more night. I could never have imagined that would turn in to such a problem.I arrived very early in the morning but decided to see if I could check in.I totally understand that the check in time is 3 PM but a lot of times you get lucky and the front desk let you check in earlier.Juliana pulled up my reservation and said that we have a problem. I have two separate reservations. For the first night I have a king bed and for the other two nights I have a queen bed.I had my reservation from hotels.com with me and the fine print said queen bed.I never received the email from Watson (they still have not sent it to me even if I have both called and asked at the front desk) but supposedly on their reservation I had a king bed.I did not care. I just wanted a room, any room a twin bed would've been fine with me!I was happy to be downgraded to getting a queen size bed for all three nights. That would help them out as well so they did not have to clean out the room and change bedding after just one night but NO!Juliana took great pleasure in informing me that because I have two reservation I was going to have to check out at 11 AM the next day and possibly not get my new room until 3 PM.I sat on the sofa next to the front desk for a few hours waiting to check in. A couple of times I went to ask Juliana if they had a room available but nothing came up for king beds, only queen. Another man working checked in a few people that had booked on Hotwire so I decided to see if I had better luck with him. Twice I stood up by his computer but he totally ignored me.He did not even acknowledge me or say a word so I stepped over to Juliana. Again, no king bed but if I paid $40 extra I could have two beds but I still would have to check out at 11 AM the next day and wait for my queen bed. I was alone so this was absolutely ridiculous especially since I had already waited so long.If they would've had any kind of customer service, Juliana could have told me to sit down and relax and that she would just call my name whenever something was available.Instead she told me that I have to come and check in so I had to go back-and-forth and ask her just to be turned down every time.Turned down because they only had queen beds available and I had booked a king. She loved to rub that in while I watched them check in tons of other people that arrived.I decided to cancel my upcoming two nights and instead I booked the Sheraton. It's costed me more since it was last minute and I had booked the Watson over a month ago but it was absolutely worth it.It was night and day to walk in to Sheraton and be received with a smile and a welcome. Even if I came early I immediately got checked in to a room at the 19th floor! When I open the door I had 2 Queen beds even if I only booked 1. The difference was they did not make a big deal about it.So in the end, it all worked out. I moved to a nicer hotel in a better location and my trip finally started.Normally, I never give bad reviews but Watson totally deserved their 1 star!
Stayed here for a week during the NY Marathon week. Convenient because it’s a 10 minute walk from the finish line (a little longer if you’re crawling!). The closest Subway is Columbus Circle, which has a Whole Foods supermarket on the West side. The hotel is a little dated, but the rooms are clean and spacious. Frustratingly, the heating couldn’t be adjusted and hence too hot, even with the window open. A short stroll away is Hell’s Kitchen on 9th Avenue, a District with heaps of options for dinner. Good quality Mexican and Italian restaurants abound.
We stayed here with a group who was running the New York Marathon. It had a good location to Central Park which was the finish of the marathon. It is adequate, but nothing special. It is well located near Central Park, nearest subway is Columbus Circle and lots of restaurants nearby in Hell's Kitchen on 9th Avenue. Relatively close to Broadway also for shows and entertainment.Could be improved though addition of a mini fridge in the room. This was frustrating not having a small fridge. We did not have breakfast as part of our package, so can not comment.
The hotel room was large and clean. The bathroom was old but functioned extremely well. The staff were excellent and helpful. The gym in the basement was excellent. They had a number of trainers who were only too happy to help improve your workout! A most enjoyable week's stay, would return in a flash
