Disappointing 2nd Visit

I visited 70 Park Avenue just over 4 yrs ago and loved it so much that I decided as a 40th birthday treat to myself that I would once again stay here.Check in at the hotel was thorough and brief and I was given my key card for room 712.Upon opening my door I tried to close it but then realised it would automatically close (something new I thought) although left me a little unnerved with me being on my own that I had to stand there whilst waiting for it to automatically close.Like anyone else I put my luggage down and headed straight to see what my view was as last time I had a view of the Empire State Building...with anticipation I pulled up my blind to be presented with a brick wall & a few windows to the left.I then ventured towards the bathroom where on my way I noticed a big silver push button and then look towards my door and saw a keyhole half way up the door and I suddenly realised I was in a room designed for maybe someone who would perhaps be a wheelchair user. I then entered the bathroom which had no bath, just a shower with a slight dip & although they had catered enough bars to help anyone who may need to be helped with sitting or standing, I noticed I had absolutely no shelves or storage in the bathroom but enough towels to set my own towel shop up with. Plus I found the toilet very close to the wall & had to remove some of the towels for it be be more assessable. To be honest at this point I felt disappointed but I felt more angry towards anyone who would be disabled to be presented with a room with a view of a brick wall & no storage in a bathroom when the last thing anyone in a wheelchair would want to do is to be back and forth from the bedroom to the bathroom just so they can get their toiletries.Upon showering later & a couple of trips to and from the bathroom with my toiletries, I then realised what all the towels provided had been put there mop up the excess water from the shower which would leak onto the bathroom floor.After my shower I headed towards the cupboard as I had read somewhere about a minibar so as I went to open the cupboard it was locked & I did wonder whether I’d imagined a minibar.The next day & being full of cold I thought I’d leave my room being cleaned and left my tab on the door but a lady did knock on my door that evening asking if I needed more towels!! But no mention of a minibar & the cupboard remained locked for a second night. After returning from my day on the 3rd night I found my cupboard unlocked and was greeted with a minibar, which I found reasonably priced for hotel charges so I took a water.On my fourth day I returned at 3pm to drop some shopping off and found my room had been cleaned and decided to take a can of coke from the minibar before heading back out until 5:30pm. When I returned I realised I had forgotten to get some water so I went to my minibar & found that in the two and a half hours I had been gone & just 24 hours after someone had unlocked it then someone had been back into my room and locked the minibar, which left me uncomfortable & questioning why they hadn’t just locked it during their earlier clean & why they felt the need to go back into my room a second time with no notice. The only water I had available was the water left on the dresser top for $10. So basically out of my four nights, my minibar had been locked for three of those nights.It’s such a shame as the hotel is lovely & ideally located & the beds & rooms are comfortable. But this was a 40th birthday treat & to be presented with a room where your door automatically opens and you have to stand and wait for it to automatically close & with a view of a brick wall, a bathroom which was overloaded with towels and had no storage or shelving space for toiletries & a mini bar locked for 75% of my stay & then being locked without any prior notice then I’ve got to say I doubt I’ll be returning & will be staying elsewhere in future.

Hotel in a great location. Ideal for a short visit to NYC

Great hotel in a very convenient location... just a couple of blocks from Grand Central Station so easy access to the subway and lots of yellow cabs about. The room was very clean and a great view of the Empire State Building from our bedroom window. We had 2 double beds as it was us and our 5 year old daughter staying. Though room only this wasn’t generally a problem as they were lots of eating places on the doorstep of the hotel for coffees etc it would have been nice to have tea and coffee making facilities in the room but as the location was so good that was a small issue really. Clean hotel and quite spacious. When we are back in NYC we will look to stay here again. Thanks x

AMAZING hotel! 👌👌👌

My sister and I stayed at this hotel in January 2018 to celebrate her 30th birthday. We had the trip planned for a while and the staff were amazing in helping me plan some special surprises for her before we arrived. They arrived a bottle of wine and a balloon in our room, which was beautiful and had a gorgeous view of the Empire State building! They also helped me arrange a limo for my sister's birthday night- nothing was too much trouble for them! Sarah Hill was so helpful- nothing seemed too much trouble! When we arrived, the hotel was clean and tidy, great location and all the staff were so friendly. Mario in particular was great. Would definitely recommend and we would love to return one day!

Great Value

I decided to try Iberostar 70 Park and i am glad i did, because I had a great stay. Besides the accommodating rates, the rooms and hotel were very clean. Also the staff was very helpful and were there to assist in anything I asked of them. I will definately return!!

Winter on NY

good stay, the staff was great during my stay, provide useful directions on where to eat, near central park easy to get any train to move around in the city, walking distance to empire state and time square .
