My family of 6 stayed in a 3 bed apartment on the 27th floor over Christmas week. Santa had presents delivered there before out arrival and the whole Marmara team were excellent Elfs!I cannot fault the front desk or behind the scene staff at all. They were extremely helpful and knowledgeable the whole time. Everything you could want is right on your doorstep. Groceries were delivered and the licqor stor and pharmacy were next door! With the new subway opening in January 2017 the access into central Manhattan will only get better. It was only $15 in a taxi anyway. The beds in the apartment were very comfortable and the whole apartment was clean. We asked for another armchair and this was brought straight away. Nothing was too much trouble. We had a clean half way through and the girl was fabulous. I would definitely recommend the Marmara to anyone and this is the only place I'll stay in Manhattan from now on with my family as the apartment was so spacious. Thank you so much to all the Marmara team for making this an amazing Christmas.
The room we stayed in was a one bedroom for 4 people. We had a fold out bed and the hotel supplied a rollaway at no additional cost. The staff were wonderful. The location is really away from the action, but when you consider the additional cost to be closer to Times Square, you can spend money on taxis each day and still be well in front. In addition, a new subway line opened when we were there which has the station literally one minute walk from the from door. It can get you downtown in 10 to 15 minutes. The shower was not wonderful, and the carpet is in need of replacement but otherwise it was a wonderful way to spend our time in NYC. We stayed 11 nights, so found it quite comfortable. There are plenty of good restaurants within walking distance, and an array of supermarkets. Our room had a washing machine and dryer, which after travelling for 6 weeks in the US was a blessing.
At the price the Marmara is hard to fault, the room(s) was very spacious the staff helpful and friendly. The location was great, close to the subway to see the attractions and enough shops / bars to keep us and the boys happy.
So we showed up two days ago to a dingy room they call a "suite". While it is undoubtedly larger than most NYC hotel rooms, it is old and dirty. The hallways are dark and smelly. There are 2 elevators that take forever and stop at the wrong floors. (We were on floor 10 and it kept bringing us to floor 12). Every time we touched a light switch or the heat an electrical shock would occur. The following morning the phones stopped working. It was impossible to contact anyone in the hotel and the elevators would take 10 minutes, so it was hugely inconvenient. The last straw, however, was when my car was returned from THE HOTEL'S valet service missing my Ray-Ban sunglasses. I immediately went back in and they called someone from the garage who of course "had no idea, it never happened before". The garage claimed no responsibility, and the hotel that took $110 from me also denied responsibility. They recommended I wait for a phone call from the manager because they couldn't do anything. So why are two incompetent employees left to run an entire NYC hotel? I have never posted a review in my 27 years of life, even though I have undoubtedly had terrible experiences, but I was honestly excited to write this one. I don't understand how this hotel has "4 stars" to begin with, but their incompetence and unethical behavior is absolutely disappointing. I can't wait to hear from this manager to see what his solution is. I am refusing charges on valet to my credit card company for sure.
We visited NYC shortly before New Year's Eve 2016. Our intent was to visit Bemelmans' Bar, the Met, the Guggenheim, and some other UES locations. After a lot of searching we settled on the Marmara because we were traveling with our adult daughter and wanted a suite-style place. The Maramara offered the largest rooms for the most reasonable price (we took a "One Bigger" suite. The Marmara looks to have been built in the first half of the '90s, and is showing its age. It is not luxurious by modern standards, but it is clean, and everything works. The suite was very spacious and offered a living room with balcony and pullout couch, separate bedroom, small bathroom, dining area, and a full kitchen better than the one I had in my first apartment. They do long-term rentals and it would be easy for a couple to live there for a month. The rooms are very bright and airy and have high ceilings, and the furnishings are neutral and comfortable enough. We were on the 10th floor and had good views; lower would be noisier and have less to see. I recommend requesting a room as high up as they will give you. There are only 5-6 rooms / suites per floor. The location is relatively quiet and easy to get to by car. Although it was not yet open, the new 2nd Avenue subway has a stop literally outside the front door of the hotel, which will radically increase the connectivity of the location. Cabs are easy to get and it's about a $10 trip to the Met area.If you're looking for luxury and amenities, look elsewhere, but if you're looking for somewhere comfortable, roomy, and a good value, give the Marmara a try. The staff where very friendly and pleasant.
