Really enjoyed our stay

We just spent a week at the Marmara Manhattan and were really happy with this hotel. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. Although we had booked a one bedroom, we were delighted to discover we had been upgraded to a three bedroom (although the other two bedrooms were locked and not accessible to us.) The apartment was really large and spacious. It had a balcony and the most fantastic views from every single room (even the bathroom!). The kitchen was fairly well-equipped with a large fridge, gas oven and stove, dishwasher and microwave. There was even a washer/dryer. The bed was very comfortable – although even high up, we could still hear traffic and street noise (but that’s NYC). There was a flat-screen TV with cable in both the bedroom and living room, and free Wi-Fi. It was wonderful to be in a whole apartment rather than a small hotel room. The only critique would be that living room furniture was a little tired and the wall-to-wall carpet could have been cleaner. We also loved the location – the Q subway entrance was just next door, and many restaurants and grocery stores were close by. We even walked to and from the Guggenheim from our hotel. We would definitely return here on our next trip to NYC.

Nice Find

This is a great find, its not the Ritz but its not bad, it is clean and the beds and linens are very comfortable, nice hot water, no complaints, full kitchen, We would stay again, Thinking about going for St. Patricks Day Weekend! right across from the Q subway line, and very close to where family lives so it is very close. Famous Rays Pizza across the street! Starbucks across the street, A bagel cafe.

Needed a 3 bedroom suite...

We needed a 3 bedroom suite, so this was great. But it's run down. The door to the closet broke off the moment I opened it... The good news is that it was very reasonable priced, spacious, amazing views from the 23rd floor of the Empire State Building and the Wast River - even could watch the NYC Marathon! The beds were incredibly comfortable. They just need to update the place!!

Beware: housekeeping may bust in on you while you’re naked (without knocking), and it only goes downhill from there

It’s never a good sign when maintenance staff outnumber guests and load up precious elevator space as you try to get to your room, but that opening scene at my arrival at the Marmara was only the beginning of a dreadful experience. Despite a serviceably friendly welcome from the front desk, and the promise of a large suite, the Marmara Manhattan fails on just about every other front. (Another word of warning: do not be deceived by the pretty photos of their sister site on FaceBook – there is no grand entrance or world-class spa or Park Avenue views here – and they do a poor job of differentiating between the two properties, for obvious reasons.) On entering the suite, one is greeted with a group of locked doors (a few of which are for an interior room that awkwardly divides the bedroom from the living room and kitchen area). About the only thing that can be said for the space is that it is large and has enough windows to allow for a suitably impressive view. Unfortunately, that large space allows for an expansive stretch of disgustingly-stained carpet. There is a balcony, which I wasn’t sure was usable since the sliding door was stuck. Eventually it gave enough sticky way to allow me to squeeze out. After surveying the disappointing surroundings, I decided to change and get out of there as quickly as possible. Most hotels in New York are only meant for sleeping anyway, and I didn’t intend to spend any more time that was absolutely necessary in that dreary place. I’d taken off everything but my socks and was searching for a dinner outfit when I heard voices. That’s strange, I thought, and rather distressing for sleep opportunities, because it sounded like they were coming from inside the suite. If that’s how sound traveled in this place, I would not be in for a restful night. It turns out the walls weren’t that thin: a couple of housekeeping staff had unlocked the suite and walked right into my room without knocking. I did my best to cover up (with only my hands), and they quickly apologized and left. Why would housekeeping barge into a guest room at 4:30 in the afternoon without even knocking? I’m neither a prude nor a shy guy, but that’s upsetting. A quick call of complaint to the front desk (and a request that anyone else please knock before entering) barely elicited an apology. As for the rest of my stay, it was thankfully uneventful, if defiantly drab. The place has the air of biding time, as if waiting for a renovation that is never going to arrive. The rooms are wholly without charm and character, reminiscent of some 80’s apartment straight out of ‘American Psycho’ – one that has never been revamped or updated. Perhaps it’s fitting for a hotel that so massacres privacy and style.

We are so happy to have found the Marmara. The units are spacious with fabulous views. Each has a full kitchens. Although its located all the way on the eastside the money we saved was significant. We will be staying here whenever we're in NYC>
