Marriott New York Downtown
- What's Included
This hotel is in lower Manhattan. A wonderful location if you want to see the World Trade Center and the traditional banking district. It's very close to Hudson river as well. The area near the river has been through great development and is very pleasant for a jog during the day, or a run. It's beautiful and a quiet hideaway from the business city. It's close to subway stations as well, so wouldn't be a big issue even if you want to head up to midtown and central park. The hotel staff, in particular those in the concierge lounge, are very polite and attentive. It doesn't have a pool, but the fitness center is quite good, although I always prefer to run by the river when it doesn't rain.
This is an attractive facility with excellent (hotel) service. With a high Marriott status, I got a fantastic room upgrade with a view of the beautiful, historic West building's top floor framing One World Trade Center behind it. Amazing view, with the Hudson River sparkling on the side. With the elite status, free breakfast is also included, and the "concierge" room was closed, so I got a voucher. Still awed by the fine room and experience, walking into the breakfast room brought me back to reality. There were several obviously empty tables, but the maitre d' told everyone it would be a 10-minute wait, and there were probably 10 people waiting around to be seated. The wait was more than 10 minutes, and neither the maitre d' nor another woman walking up and down the aisle of the dining area with a walkie-talkie seemed to have any sense of urgency to seat people at already-set tables or to get empty tables cleared to reduce the backlog. The wait staff was running and sweating, so I presume the problem was shortage of personnel, but it was hardly a surprise that guests would be wanting breakfast or that with the concierge room closed, there might be more traffic than usual.
I booked this hotel and was really looking forward to me and my family´s stay there. What happened was that a week before we were flying out of Copenhagen, I received an email from The Marriott telling me that the were looking forward to see me too.But what was not so good was that it showed some incorrect dates for our stay - very bad as this stay was prepaid - non-refundable rate - so I was really miserable.I called the hotel and they were so friendly and helpful. They agreed that they would refund my payment and so they did. THAT is what I call fantastic service. Thumbs up
This was my first time back to the city post 9/11. The Marriott is located in a perfect spot downtown, great sightseeing right there, and close to public transportation options, and, of course, Uber. I was there for business and the room was excellent...great view of the city, comfy bed, quiet, all good. If you are interested in visiting the 9/11 Memorial, this is the closest spot, right across the street. The park is very peaceful, perfect for personal reflection. You are also very close to luxury shopping, and dining, many choices.
I spent four nights at this hotel but have stayed here several times in the past. The service is consistent. The property itself is clean but my room was a bit worn. For the room rates charged, it would be nice to have complimentary coffee available in the morning but instead there is a Starbucks on the property. The hotel staff were pleasant and helpful. The hotel also has a bar and a restaurant on property. The location is convenient and is close to 9/11 Memorial.
