Martha Washington Hotel
- What's Included
fantastic location right off Washington Square, beautiful historic hotel with modern amenities and rooms, and great service from the entire hotel staff. This hotel aims to please and they succeeded. Will visit again.
We just keep coming back to this lovely hotel year after year. Reason is the familiar and friendly staff, clean and comfortable rooms, location close to everything you need and much much more. We will come back for sure. PS: thanks Ronnie for the sample of "Papa´s Special" :).
Stayed here 5 nights for Easter. The hotel is small'ish and kind of unassuming from street level, but the rooms are nice, and the people very friendly and helpful. The concierge is (seemingly) always there, and always has a kind word, a helpful tip or pointer, and in general lights everyone up a bit. We stayed in a "deluxe queen". It wasn't huge, but was fairly spacious still. Clean, well kept, and to our liking, so we were happy. The location at the corner of Washington Square park and right in the divide between Greenwich and West Village is fantastic. The whole hotel and park has such a relaxing feel to it. I wish I'd had more time to just lounge in the park for a day, because it was so vibrant and chill at the same time. Loads of people using it all day long (the park has NYU buildings on all sides, so lots of young people around). The room got new towels and the bed made every day. One weird thing was there was one, and one only, waste bin in the entire room, and that in the bathroom. And anything not in that bin, like an empty wrapper or soda can wasn't tidied away. A bit weird, but not really something I felt the need to spend any kind of energy on. All in all, I loved it, and would absolutely, hands down, stay there again!
Spent four nights in a superior twin room. On the second floor with a view of Washington Square Park. I was concerned about noise being so close to street level but it was very quiet. The staff were efficient, professional and friendly. The location is fantastic, very close to major subway lines, great restaurants, shopping and we really enjoyed being in the west village.
In any business, the reception received marks a first impression. Upon arrival, the front desk briefly welcomed us, gave us the room card, and then we took our luggage to the room up ourselves! On several occasions, we asked information about directions or recommendations. The 2 women at the desk were 1) not helpful, 2) not friendly, 3) gave us the WRONG directions to a very local restaurant, 4) and when asked questions, several times they'd look at each other (for help in answering the question). They'd admit they're "not really sure," and would voice an "I think it's ...." but did NOT make the attempts to find-out "for sure." The complimentary breakfast was not what we expected. Bagels were stale. We went elsewhere. The rooms small, but almost all NYC hotel rooms are. We didn't spend much time in the rooms anyway. But they were clean, and the beds were comfortable. The tv was not working well - garbled audio - but like I said, we weren't in the room much. The light beside each bed had PINK bulbs (????) that put out almost NO light through the shades. No way could you read a book with both bedside lights on. There WAS an overhead light - useful when entering the room - but glaring as most overhead (ceiling) lights are. Okay, the hotel is not a "bad" place to stay. It's in a great location. None of the above mentioned seriously effected our stay. But if we had planned a trip giving us free time to "chill" in the room (we did not. We were only there 2 nights), we would have been much less satisfied.
