Martha Washington Hotel
- What's Included
We stayed here over a weekend due to the proximity to who we were visiting. The hotel lobby was nice when we entered and the location was great. The hallway's (we were on the 5th floor) were VERY narrow (hard for 2 people to pass) and the rooms small (as most hotels are in NYC). The decor is tired and the rooms dark. We were disappointed that there were no comfortable places in the lobby to lounge or read the paper. The continental breakfast that is included is minimal, but was fresh. Great place to stay if you need to be close to anyone that is near Washington Square Park.
A small hotel, off the beaten track, in Greenwich Village.A very nice experience. Charming place, modest but adequate rooms, very reasonable prices, friendly and helpful staff, nice continental breakfast (free). Excellent restaurant. A few housekeeping glitches: hair pin in room carpet (lack of vacuuming?), dirt encrusted TV remote, torn bathrobe, lack of slippers (supplied in other rooms).
This hotel is around the corner from NYU in the heart of Greenwich Village. Luxurious it is not but we've stayed here several times and like it each time. Depending on how much you are willing to spend, the rooms are either cozy (i.e., small) or comfortable (i.e., bigger) but all are clean and well equipped. The free continental breakfast works well for us but if you want a full breakfast the restaurant is attached and very good. In fact, the restaurant is a local gem and we often have dinner there especially on travel days which says a lot given the choices. Very friendly staff and rates are very competitive.
We needed to be near NYU for one night, and the reviews for this hotel were good. For the purpose, its location could not be better, as it is at one corner of Washington Square Park. My wife had to be at an early session of a conference, and the hotel was very accommodating; there was a room available(414), and they allowed me in at about 9:30 a.m., at no extra charge. It had no view to speak of; I expect that the rooms with views had been occupied, and thus were not available yet. Not a problem. The room is small, but not extraordinarily so at this price point. Everything worked, there is a small closet and a bathroom. Furnishings have an art deco vibe. It was an extremely cold day, and I watched TV for a while, until it was time for me to leave. There is a passage from the hotel lobby to the hotel's restaurant, which was very convenient on a frigid evening. Dinner there was excellent (reviewed separately.)Next morning, we had breakfast in the small cafe area off the lobby, where the offerings included bagels, small croissants, bread, small muffins, fresh fruit cup, jellies, Nutella, coffee, juice, etc. If you wish to go beyond the free continental breakfast, a full breakfast menu is available in the restaurant (in addition to the continental breakfast buffet). The staff was quite friendly and helpful in all respects. If I needed to be in the downtown area overnight again, I would not hesitate to stay here once more.
We were looking for a hotel near the area of NYU and we found this hotel for a very nice price and apparently with great accommodations based on the pictures and the reviews. We arrived, and to our dismay the rooms were quite small and not at all what we had seen. The rugs were disgusting, to the point that we did not take off ours shoes in the room. The amenities look cheap; I would be better off sleeping in my dorm room. Very disappointed with this place, I totally do not recommend staying here. There are far better hotels in New York for a better price.
