New York Marriott Downtown
- What's Included
I decided to stay in the city for a weekend versus making the trek home. Since it was the marathon, I opted to stay quite a bit further downtown than I normally do. This place is somewhat convenient for Wall Street and the like - but other than that, it isn't all that great a location. That said - it is a pretty reasonable property - nothing particularly stands out regarding my stay there except that a) the counter staff was extremely nice when I arrived. A young lady there greeted me and was just terribly sweet. b) the "hotel bar" isn't actually part of the hotel and closed on Friday night very early considering which means one needs to wander outside.Again, the neighborhood isn't very conducive to strolling - there are a few nearby bars and restaurants - but nothing like you would have in other areas. If you are here simply for work nearby then I would suggest this place. If you are here for sights and sounds - I would opt for a different spot.
I would highly recommend The New York Marriott Downtown Hotel due to the convenience of location to the World Trade Center, Trinity Church, Wall Street, Battery Park, and an nice stroll to Chinatown and Little Italy. I found the front desk staff to be extremely hospitable and the room views of the Statue of Liberty spectacular.
I expected more after reading the reviews. Location was perfect - in the financial district and less than a block from the World Trade Center area. Relatively quiet area on weekends. Our room on the 27th floor was clean, but old and dated with wrinkled curtains and soiled wallpaper. Deluxe double was not “deluxe”, no extra seating besides desk chair with 2 double beds. Suitable for shorter people or children. Staff was friendly at check in/check out. Internet access is not free unless you are Marriott Gold or Platinum, the premium WiFi ($19.95/day) worked well. Starbucks and Bill’s Burger Bar on first floor. There are other better options for dining nearby - try the Augustine at the Beekman Hotel for brunch.
Great location in the financial district. A little far from many of the midtown sights but close to the 9/11 memorial and Wall St. I arrived early and left my luggage with the bellhop. I returned later to check in but forgot to grab my suitcase. On my way out I asked the bellhop if they could take it up to my room and he said no! I don’t feel like that was an extraordinary request and most hotels I’ve stayed at would’ve already taken it up to my room when it became available.
This is the second time we have stayed at the Marriott Downtown in NYC, having stayed in many other hotels in he city. In an expensive city, it offers fairly good value, and the location is away from much of the tourist traps of Midtown. The rooms are spacious and well furnished (however some are more modern than others), the staff are helpful, and the amenities are good. Reliable WiFi, and good local access to the subway, make it a really good all round spot for a stay in NYC. Avoid Bill’s burgers, which is below average, and instead head for some of the excellent restaurants a short walk away in TriBeCa..
