Stayed on June 15. Claire checked us in and asked if we were celebrating anything. My mom mentioned it was my birthday. When we got back from sightseeing a few hours later, there was a piece of chocolate cake and a handwritten card from Claire. Great service all around. Room was very quiet and felt much larger due to the high ceilings. Bathroom was absolutely stunning. I would highly recommend this hotel.
I've always dreamed of staying at The Plaza. I'm in NY at least once a year and this year I finally made the move and I'm extremely glad I did. From the moment I stepped out of the car until I left, the experience was pleasurable and the staff very courteous. The hotel itself has a European elegance, as you see in pictures and movies. We were upgraded to a wonderful suite.The room was very spacious and clean, as were the bathrooms as well. The room felt extremely comfortable and the floor was quiet. Not to mention the expansive Market Place within the hotel. I had made the Waldorf Astoria my home away from home when in NY, but The PLAZA definitely holds that place. I recommend and I'll be back.
Our recent visit to the Plaza Hotel, New York, Palm Court for afternoon tea with my wife and niece was to say in two words very disappointing. The attitude of the waiters in the restaurant was very nonchalant to say the least.I previously visited the Plaza Hotel Palm Court three years ago with my wife to celebrate her birthday, which at that time was a totally different experience.We were recommended which loose teas would best go with each plate of the afternoon tea by the waitress.The tea was served in very ornate teapots, which were replaced with the recommend different selections at a regular basis to ensure the tea was always hot.Each of the sandwich and cake selection ingredients was also explained.We were also provided with another plate of sandwiches prior to moving on the scones and cake selections.When we had finished the cream tea a six inch cake with happy birthday and candles was bought to the table for my wife (a very nice classy touch we both thought)On the recent visit apart from taking our order for the New Yorker with a glass of champagne at $95.00 per person, there was no other dialog from the waiters during the meal. None of the sandwich fillings or breads or cake ingredients were explained (a journey of discovery) the single tea selection was provided in one large tea pot per person which my wife struggled to lift with two hands!! At no time was the there any assistance from the waiters who were to busy talking in the far corner of the restaurant. The best was yet to come when I asked for few more sandwiches, of the ones that I had particularly enjoyed. The look I received from the waiter was like a scene from Oliver Twist, were no one had ever asked for some more sandwiches.After looking at me in disgust, he informed me that there would be an additional charge to which I agreed (when the bill arrived I had been charged $20.00 for 5 finger sandwiches!!!)The final insult was the cream for the scones which was merely whipped cream. No clotted cream in site!!Again this visit was to celebrate wife’s birthday which they marked with 4 macaroons and two candles.If I was to provide a rating for the cream tea it would be on par with that provide by a budget hotel chain at a fraction of the cost.Both my wife and I were amazed how standards had dropped in the time between or visits.
In the 90th we used to stay a lot in this hotel. We were looking forward to come back here and it was such a disappointment. The interior has lost its magic. The service was average and the price was excessively high. We will not be back in this hotel.
Four of us were really looking forward to our stay at this beautiful Hotel we booked 8 nights which is apparently a long stay .on arrival we checked into our rooms which unfortunately were not the ones we booked and paid for months ago!.our expectations of two signature rooms with a terrace turned out to be an average room with the view of an office block ! We were not very impressed to say the least. The reception staff quickly offered us breakfast at no cost and of course we had no alternative but to accept. The first 3 nights our beds were turned down and towels replaced as one would expect in a 5 star hotel . After that things went downhill in spite of advising the reception staff Friday through to when we left on Tuesday housekeeping only attended our rooms in the morning,not impressed.
