Caribe Royale Orlando
- What's Included
Really poor experience from the Expedia desk. Manager refused to meet me to discuss my experience. Hotel is amazing just didn't like the treatment I received from the staff at the desk, especially since they were wrong.
The resort is massive and nicely kept. However the overwhelming floral deodorizer that radiates all throughout the resort is horrible. The rooms are noisy. You can hear every door open and close from other guests. The Calypso bar has TERRIFIC service, yet mediocre food.Much better places to stay in Orlando.
I wanted to give this hotel four stars, I really did, but it just wasn't there. First, let me say it's a pretty hotel with a good location. I loved the free parking and easy check in. The lobby smells very fresh, and is impressive. Our room was a deluxe king suite. It was quite roomy. I had to dust the nightstand off to set my things down, and the floor could have been vacuumed a little better. It was "home clean" not "hotel clean". The gap under the door was large and let in a lot of light. It was way too easy to hear the neighbor's jet tub and running children above us. There was a nice view from the large windows. Our housekeeper did not make up the room until late the first day. The second day we stayed out until 5. Shortly thereafter, they knocked on the door. My husband said we'd be leaving in 20-30 minutes and to please come back. They say they can't, and make him sign something that he's refused service. He didn't. Internet was very spotty, which made relaxing in the room difficult. The breakfast buffet was good, but it's hard to eat $20 worth of breakfast. We ate one night at the cafe. It was ok. I was browsing the chop house menu when I saw a lava cake. I asked to get one to go, and was told to go to the Tropicale. I went to the Tropicale, and was told to go to the cafe. I thought this was poor customer service. The arcade was nice, although they charged $1 for the card to load with money for games. The left flipper on pinball was sticking. I informed the attendant and he looked at me funny, but never took steps to repair it. The slide was much shorter than the pictures appear, but fun. The pool is nice but it gets very, very crowded. It's nice to have restrooms nearby. The gym is gorgeous and better than most hotel gyms. Fishing is a joke. It's a green drainage pond and you're not fishing off a pier, its over a railing. We were warned to check it out before renting poles and I'm glad I did. It was disappointing as my daughter was looking forward to this activity. On checkout day, they knocked at 9 as they slipped the bill under the door. As pool noise, upstairs neighbors, hall noise, and bath noise kept us up way past midnight, we wanted to sleep in. This felt like a "time to leave" notice. There's no free access to baggage carts. You have to use a bellman. If you're not into tipping, you're left to slug your baggage out yourself or be rude and not tip.
Very resorty with too many people in the pool and high prices to eat. The bed was comfortable but the sound of other guests is pervasive. Luckily it's mostly families so by midnight it's quiet. The property seemed well maintained and policed. Housekeeping didn't come until after 5 the first day then said they couldn't come back in twenty minutes so we could head out to dinner. They made me sign something that I had refused service even though I hadn't, I just asked them to come back at a time that evidently wasn't convenient for them. This morning they knocked on the door at 9 just to make sure we got up and our of their way (no one was there when I went to answer it but our bill was there). I hate that trick, if I want to sleep until 10:59, that should be my decision, not housekeeping's. Usually I make it a point to tip the housekeepers but not this stay, a little training in customer service would go a long way. Sorry, rant over, it's an ok resort. I wouldn't go out if my way to go back but I've stayed in worse places. I do need to give a shout out to the guy who helped us with our luggage in tower three, he was cheerful and helpful.
This hotel is huge with three towers, several restaurants and bars. If you are looking for a convention venue this place would be great. But it you are looking for a place to stay for a Disney vacation don't stay here. They do not have a pick up from the airport so you either take a pricey cab or rent a car. They have a very limited shuttle between the hotel and the Disney parks which limits the amount of time you can spend in the park. Otherwise you once again are renting a car. This adds to the expense so you would be better off paying the extra money to stay at a Disney resort and save yourself the hassle. Also this is the first hotel that I have stayed at that has a restaurant bar at the pool but doesn't have any poolside service! I had to go to the bar to order my drinks and food. They would have made a lot more money off of me if I hadn't had to get up and go to the bar every time I or someone in my party wanted a drink!
