Clearwater Beach Marriott Suites on Sand Key
- What's Included
The rooms are nice but the pool area is fabulous. If you're looking for beach access the Marriott offers a shuttle across the street to a park area that is really my favorite! Minimal people (compared to Clearwater Beach area) and great shelling. I love to stay here!
Clearwater Beach is a great place to visit, and this, despite it's shortcomings is overall a decent place to stay. Our favorite part was watching a pod of dolphins swimming in front of the hotel several time from our balcony while we were there. The very first thing you should know is that this hotel is not directly on the beach, although they do have a free shuttle that will take you to a nearby beach. (This beach is ok, but not as nice as the main beach Clearwater has.) I would not say the beach is in "walking distance" for anyone with small children or any type of disability. It's a hike. They have plenty of free parking (or valet for $10/day) and the staff at the doors was always great. The pool area is nice and big, but I found it to be obnoxiously loud between the waterfall and the volume of the music from the speakers. Great for kids. Unfortunately, as far as Marriott's go this one was disappointing. The beds in our room were lumpy (and only doubles) and the pull out mattress was so bad we pushed it back in and used the sofa as a bed instead. Housekeeping was also disappointing. Came back from the beach late in the day to shower before dinner only to find our room hadn't been cleaned more than once. On two occasions when we asked the front desk for additional towels or toilet paper we needed in order to get ready for dinner we had to make a second request after an hour's time. The front desk staff was generally friendly otherwise. We were also very disappointed by the service in the restaurant during breakfast. Either the staff is extremely poorly trained/supervised, or they are grossly understaffed. We were there over a holiday, but surely the hotel KNEW that was coming and didn't plan adequately. My advice, be sure to eat before 9 am if you want any sort of service. We would probably try one of the other Marriott's in Clearwater before going back here.
Some good reviews on here that cover the hotel well. Here are my extras that I didn't see in recent reviews:1. There is a well equipped gym.2. Pool area has a fun ice cream parlour and a Macaw!3. Saw dolphins swimming by every day-amazing!4. There's a jetski rental place at the pool $70 for 30 min.5. Maggie Maes 2 min walk away is a fun breakfast and there are a couple of shops selling all the beach stuff/clothes you may have forgotten.6. Lots of free parking close to the building. One request would be for the pool bar staff to clear tables a bit faster to discourage bird raids. Compared to my experiences last week in Orlando, this was a bit too laid back. Perhaps the automatic inclusion of a 20% service charge is a factor here? When they offer you your bill at the pool note that tips are on top of this figure.
Tonight is our last night as a family of 4 at this hotel. We have spent a week here and have loved every minute. The +'s :Location - right on the edge of the water, the view from the suites is simply stunning. (Ours 411). The most gorgeous water views. Pier 40 & the hustle & bustle just not our scene to stay in so perfect for us to be able to visit as so close but retreat to paradise at the end of the day. Also great service by buggy or minibus to the beach opposite which is beautiful. And the staff who take you are just fantastic. THE most friendly staff I've ever come across. AND you can borrow buckets and spades. Great touch. Facilities - pool is great (kids loved it), lovely waterfall and ball hoop, as well as lovely little splash area. Food and drink around the pool lovely. The coconut shrimp is absolutely gorgeous! Also great to have a Starbucks for morning coffee. Decor - it has obviously been recently decorated & it looks modern and fresh. Lovely furnishings and general decor. Outdoor furniture and fire pits lovely. Suites - as above great decor. Lovely to have a bedroom and lounge area. Staff - are all fantastic.. from concierge to reception to pool area - all exceptional. Daughter cried today because her ice cream melted and a member of staff whisked her away to get her another - a little thing but meant a huge amount. Outstanding staff. Negatives :Bed size - have to say this is the only thing we thought let the hotel down a bit and made me want to be able to mark the hotel in between 'excellent ' and 'very good'. Beds are really small doubles & just don't expect this from a Marriott hotel. We are averaged size people & we rolled into one another all night. There is space for bigger beds. Storage - really really needs to be more. 1 2 drawer cabinet & a hanger area!! There is plenty of room for more drawer sets and think this is so needed. Cleaning - with the exception of the second to last night, cleaning of the room was very very average. Weirdly one day was fantastic - different cleaner? Overall due the location, staff and facilities, we would definetely return. Can't imagine waking up without this view on Saturday morning at home! Simply stunning.
We spent 5 nights at this gorgeous hotel/resort. We loved every aspect of it. From check in with Jordan who was able to accommodate an earlier check in, to the lovely waitresses at breakfast and pool side to the beautiful views it was a great experience for sure. We were able to watch dolphins while having breakfast. Breakfast buffet is a must. As platinum, we get complementary passes. Kids pay $5. The buffet has a great selection and we loved the fresh fruits every morning. Pool is large enough to accommodate hotel guests no issues. Rooms are nice with sunrise and sunset views which are awesome. Staff are awesome. Overall great experience and will consider coming back next year.
