Disney's All-Star Sports Resort

This is a great resort!! It was affordable, the food was good and the pool was awesome! The rooms are clean, something I am very picky about when traveling. I would definitely stay here again when coming back to Disney.
This was a great value hotel and served the purpose for our vacation. We opted out of the mousekeeping and got a $10 gift card per night so that was a huge perk! The only complaint is the busses are fewer for the value resorts and we had to wait (sometimes 30 minutes) for a bus, although we never shared a bus with the other value resorts.
I had never stayed at a Walt Disney World resort hotel before but I wanted to have that experience without spending too much. Disney's All-Star Sports Resort was the ideal entry-level resort on the Disney property. Not fancy at all, the hotel covered all the bases for a place to sleep and clean up before and after a day of fun at the Disney theme parks. The hotel has the amenities most families enjoy like a game room, a swimming pool, a snack bar, and a convenience store, all conveniently located near the separate buildings in the resort. I didn't take advantage of the pool or the game room, but I needed a couple of things from the convenience store and had ate breakfast one morning at the snack bar. Nothing very special in either place but, again, it met my basic needs. The best thing about staying at the resort is access to the transportation system. I took a bus everywhere in and around Walt Disney World. It saved me a lot of time and parking agony.A word of warning...if you like to start your day with a cup of coffee, the rooms at All-Star Sports don't have coffee pots. Of course, you can head over to the snack bar but I brought my own coffee pot with me so I didn't have to wait my first cup of the day. There was a small refrigerator in the room so I was able to keep a couple of midnight snacks in the room. I should mention that I was able to get a discount on my stay so it made the room fairly affordable. If I decide to stay at a Disney resort again, I'll pick something else so I get better perspective on what is available, but for the economy-minded, All-Star Sports isn't a bad choice.
The All-Star Sports is basically a Motel 6 with a well-done, strong sports theme. But that is not a bad thing and it was basically what we expected after reading online reviews and doing research. The only difference is that the people that stay here aren't the drug-dealing thugs that stay at the Motel 6 in my town. They were all families on vacation to have a good time. There was a good vibe.We were at Disney World to be in the parks, so we left early in the morning to get to the park for the rope-drop and got back after the park closed. So it worked well as a clean place to crash with AC and a shower. That being said, this place is VERY basic. The rooms don't have coffee makers, just two beds, a TV, small table and two chairs, a small fridge plus a safe.We took the buses to and from the parks and Disney Springs. We thought the bus system might be a problem based on other reviews, but it was just not a problem. The arrival board with bus arrival times at the hotel is very helpful, so you can grab a quick bite at the cafeteria or a last minute item in the store and still grab the bus. On the way back, things went well too but note that if the All-Star Music bus comes first (the pickup points are next to each other at each resort) you can grab that because it is a short walk away and some rooms at All-Star Sports may actually be closer to the All-Star Music bus stop. One of the complaints we heard was that some rooms are really far away from the front desk. That just wasn't an issue. You do a lot of walking at Disney and the walking at All-Star Sports is not big deal. Maybe 5 minutes from the main building to a room, at the most, for the furthest room. Our room did have a funky smell when we walked in, but we really couldn't put our finger on it and it wasn't unbearable.I gave it 5 stars not because it is a high-end resort, but because it was EXACTLY what I expected for the price. I had no major issues at all. Things went well. The only thing that I think could be improved would be more staff at the restaurant/cafeteria. The lines were frustratingly long at times and I wish they had more people to cook and serve food. Also, with the magic bands, you don't even have to check in. You just go straight to your room when you arrive and the door opens. So easy!
This was our first time on Disney property. We checked into All Star Sports for 2 weeks following been on international drive 3 nights and at Cabana Bay for 2 nights prior. The staff at Disney are on a whole different level and this really does have an impact on the stay you have. Check in was quick and easy and the cast member who helped us I think her name was Lisa Marie (maybe) was brilliant, helpful and so happy. She got us in the Disney spirit that's for sure. The room we stayed in was in surfs up facing towards the carpark, this was fine for us as the pool is a lively/noisy area until late. It was clean and tidy and very spacious with everything you would need. There was some days that we didn't have housekeeping just because the timings of us been in the room for afternoon naps or getting changed to go back out was when the maid was in our area, they came late every day after 3pm for sure but it was no problem we just asked for towels. The food court was just okay, it was always busy no matter what time of day it was but the busiest time was after 9pm. The set up of the different counters isn't ideal, one day my partner asked for chicken wings and fries and she gave us the wings and said we would have to cue in the other line for fries. The line was a good 15/20 people deep and by the time we had the fries everything else was cold. We only ate here a handful of the time as it was all the same food every day and it becomes too repetitive. The pizza is nice though and cooked fresh. The resort was very safe, magic bands were checked every vehicle entering the all star resort area. There was always staff walking round and security patrolling the car park and surrounding areas. The buses were a bit of a let down with some respects we always had to wait for them and the stops are in areas directly in the sun with no shade. One day it was 25 minutes before a bus came. I also don't like how full they are allowed to get, I saw so many people falling all over the place banging into each other or metal poles etc it just isn't very safe. They are convenient and easy to use though (they are just better when not as full)We paid a really reasonable price and I managed to get free dining when I booked 18 months in advance and I would highly recommend this hotel and I don't think I will ever not stay on property when we go again and with early access to parks and been able to buy things and have it delivered to resort it just sweetens the deal.
