Disney's All-Star Sports Resort

My husband and I stayed here with a friend, per his recommendation. This was our first time staying at a value resort and it was okay for just a few days. The rooms were a little outdated, smaller than expected but clean. I wasn't expecting such a long walk from our room to the pools or cafeteria, there is no easy way around the resorts. I did like that there were shuttles to take you to and from the parks and the airport, that made our travel much easier. The staff were friendly, but checking in took over an hour. There were only a few staff at check-in and hundreds of people waiting in line. I visited the gift shop while they were checking us in because it took way longer than I think it should have. The cafeteria was nice with a variety of food to choose from. The gift shop was a nice size and convenient for last minute souvenirs.
We stayed five nights at Port Orleans French Quarter..then spent a few days on the beach..then came back to Disney for just one night and stayed here. AWFUL. First...we were supposed to get our room number texted to us or on our APP....and by three...nothing. SO we had to call to get our room number. We were of course put at a hotel room at the back of this HUGE property. Looked run-down. Needs updating. Room was very small. Those do not even look like double sized beds. Reminded me of a cruise ship room. No coffee in the value resorts. Very disappointed with the room. Then went to park and came back and there was no message or information about Magical Express the next day. Called and was put on hold for a long time...then told a confirmation number and told to go to front desk for documents. This is where trip really went downhill. It was eleven at night...and there was a line of people with complaints. One poor couple from another country never got their luggage and the desk clerk raised her voice at them.... This was their first trip to Disney. Then we get up to desk and get our document...but no boarding pass because they said I did not have the right information for that and would have to go back to room and then come back. This is eleven at night...and we have to be at main area of hotel at 5:15am. I decided to just wait until morning...and fortunately the morning Magical Express staff was wonderful. This hotel is more like a hostel or something. I have stayed at deluxe hotels and moderate...will never stay at a value resort again because of how customers are treated. The staff at the front desk was so rude to everyone. IT was awful....certainly not magical. All Star Music was just across the parking lot from our room...that is how far back they put us. That resort at least looked nicer. You are supposed to get free mosquito wipes in room. They were not there. Moderate hotels have separate conditioner and shampoo...value is just one combined bottle. And I have never seen thinner towels...one even had a stain on it. Honestly....coffee is a must these days in rooms. But the worst part was the staff at the front desk. NO excuse for treating customers like this.
I've stayed at all of the value resorts. Each has its own characteristics. All Star Sports has always been a favorite of ours. I have 3 boys and they love the theming. I like how close it is to Animal Kingdom and Hollywood Studios. I've stayed here many many times over the last 20 or so years and I always have a great time. Yes, the rooms are small so keep that in mind. They are basic as well. No coffee makers if that matters to you. But when I know I am not going to be in my resort room much and spending most of my time at the parks - I always book value and Sports is a definite go to. You will hear a lot of love for Pop Century but I find it's gone down hill recently and needs a refresh in the worst way. Art of Animation is a bit over the top for me when I travel solo or with my now teen boys but it is a very nice resort. Sports may be "cheap" but I prefer "inexpensive" because it is definitely worth the stay.
This was a very good value for money hotel. Very basic but if you are simply looking for a room and bed this is the one for you. it was very busy when we went (over the easter period) but very good choice and so easy to access all the disney sites, buses where in their plenty.
My daughter recently 'won' a spot to compete in the national cheer competition here at Disney World and we were assigned to be at this hotel. We stayed earlier this month. Enjoy this website but dont' write many reviews, but felt I had some good insight here.... I always put pressure on myself to make sure my family has a great vacation, so when the important task of picking a 'nice' hotel comes up, I usually end up spending more than necessary. The hotel suited us just fine. It's clean and was quiet enough for us.(We were not near large pool area). There is a fantastic BUS SYSTEM at most all Disney hotels. The longest we waited was maybe 15 min. for a bus to pick us up to the designated park we wanted to go to that day. The bus ride to Magic Kingdom was a good 15 min, but it was nicely air conditioned. Nobody is grumpy on the way to the park, and is good bonding time with your kids talking about all the stuff you are going to do.. And on the ride back, it was a nice 'break' to sit in the air conditioning until we were dropped off at hotel. Guess what... the folks who spent MUCH more at the Grand Floridian across the lake I'm sure had to wait too for their boat to ferry them over to the park.. FOOD- Yes there is a convenient food court that has your typical 'crap' food but also some salad options. Still a little high priced for what you get. We UBERED to a local grocery store and stocked up on food. (You will have a small fridge in your room). We were also able to Amazon Prime NOW some drinks/snacks which were delivered right to the front desk area... So parents, save some of your $$$ and consider going here. Once again I will re-iterate ... DO NOT get hung up on staying NEXT DOOR to a park or think you are compromising your kids' good time... Your kids will want to take a mid day break anyway, so just enjoy and don't get hung up on doing everything in one day. (we spent 4 days and got to do many rides 2,3 times over...granted school not out yet) Utilize fast pass, too!
