Disneys Port Orleans French Quarter

Spent 7 nights here recently and could not fault it. We checked in and we're told we'd been upgraded from standard to garden view, which was lovely. Our room was typical Disney layout with a small bathroom area separated from the wash basin/dressing area. Beds were super comfy. Very quiet resort which we liked. We were situated right opposite the pool in building 5, even when there was entertainment at the pool, it wasn't very noisy. The food court was brill for using up those quick service dining credits. Beignets made fresh and were delicious. Short walk to the bigger Riverside where there's a table service restaurant- Boatwrights (yummy). Lovely river ride to Disney Springs. Love this resort.
I have waited to stay here for quite some time. My child requested to stay at a hotel for their 7th birthday, so I picked the French Quarter mainly for the sea serpent water slide, knowing that the pool was a must. The pool was great and there is even a fenced-in small splash area with a slide for even smaller kids. The hotel room was nice and clean. Personally, I loved the atmosphere of the resort. They had a movie playing the first evening on a blow-up screen, but the kids opted for more pool time. They offer horse drawn carriage rides around the resort, but we did not decide we wanted one until too late and they were booked up. However, we did still get to take one by going over to Fort Wilderness. We ate breakfast and dinner at the food court on the property and there was something for everyone. Lastly, like most Disney resorts there was an arcade and kids made sure we wouldn't forget to stop in before we left.
So far been here for 12 nights out of 16 and my room has been left un cleaned 3 times. On every occasion I have had to call into reception just to have some towels delivered to room so we can have a shower. Admittedly on one day that it wasn't cleaned they did bang on the door about 8:30-8:45am while were getting ready. When towels did get to our room at 01:25am they were delivered by the rudest person I've ever met at a Disney park/resort. Other than house keeping the rest of resort is very good. Please try harder Disney!
My Family of 3 stayed on a Saturday night at Disney's Port Orleans- French Quarter. Due to unforeseen circumstances, we were arriving much later than we had planned, around 8:30 PM. I was surprised only one person was working the check-in desk. Allison came to the rescue and pulled me over to her station at Concierge desk to get us set up. She was very pleasant, courteous, professional, and I give her high praise. We were in Bldg. 2, room # 2119 (first floor). The way the property is laid out does not allow for parking near your building, instead you park in main lot out front and walk down the paths. This is unusual for us who pack half our house to go on a trip, LOL. There was a bellhop desk, but it had a line, so we just carried it ourselves. The grounds are gorgeous, the paths and lamp posts add to the charm. There are multiple buildings staggered about with a centrally located pool area (behind the main entrance). There were slides, very large pool, children areas, hot tubs, etc. Our main regret is that we arrived too late (and too tired) to go to the pool like we had planned. The pool closes at 10PM. The room was very nice, very clean, nicely decorated with many touches. We had a garden (courtyard) view. It was prime location within the resort as it was right next to the pool and the boat launch (to Disney Springs). There were two queen size beds, convenience light switches by the headboard, and a blackout curtain between the beds and the double sink area. We really appreciated the privacy that offered to change and for me to get up, shower, and get ready while the rest of the family slept in.Upon arrival, We were starving so we headed over to the restaurant to see what was offered. it is Food Court style with 5 different windows offering a bunch of options (check out their menu online). My son chose a kids pepperoni pizza, my husband had a cheese steak sub, and I had the BBQ Burger (they were huge!). They do serve wine and beer, there is a bakery for dessert, and whatever options you choose, you pay as you go sit down.My one complaint was it took forever for the sandwiches. His pizza came out fairly quick but it was a solid 20 minutes (I had time to run back to the room even) before our pager went off. But the food was plentiful and excellent. There is a bar area just outside the food court where they had live entertainment with some tables playing crowd pleasing hits. The beds are very comfortable and my husband said it was the best sleep he had in a long time. There is a ceiling fan which he appreciates, as he needs to the breeze to sleep well. Even though we were on the first floor, it was very quiet and we were not disturbed at all by outside noise. There is a shop on property that sells everything from souvenirs, bathing suits and sunscreen, to snacks and drinks. In recap, we really appreciated the sleep comfort, queen beds instead of full size beds, the blackout curtain convenience, the beauty of the property, the location, and the wonderful staff. We regret we did not get to try out the pool or take a boat to the Springs. We have said we would like to go back again sometime and spend more time.
If you are looking for a moderate rated hotel on Walt Disney World property, this is a great choice. Being the smallest resort on property does not take anuthing away from this location. Considered a Disney Spring area resort, the hotel is a short bus ride to all three parks and a boat ride away from Disney Springs. The decor is the French Quarter style of New Orleans and each buildimg features a beautiful garden center. Some buildings face the river (thee waterway to Disney Springs) while some face the pool area, although they may charge more for either of thses rooms. Each building has a different design style and color giving the resort the feel of a small town. Moderate hotels on WDW have rooms with doors that open to an outdoor corridor (more expensive resorts have interior entries). The room sizes, however, are similar to most other hotels including some higher end resorts. Port Orleans rooms do have a coffee maker, hair dryer, and small refrigerator. Self parking is in lots near the buildings but be prepared for a possibly long walk to your room. However, all rooms are not too far from the main building with a shop, restaurant, and a bar. Because the resort is smaller, there are fewer crowds when getting food, boarding the bus, or enjoying the pool.Honestly, I hate writing this review as I am afraid I have given away my secret location! We have stayed at this location several times and will be back again!
