Disney's Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa
- What's Included
We just returned from five nights at Saratoga Springs. It was such a beautiful, tranquil place! As stated in other reviews, the theming is minimal. The building, grounds, pools are beautifully decorated. Traveling with our five year old, I was somewhat concerned that she would miss the omnipresent Disney characters and bright colors. It was exactly the opposite, she really enjoyed the quiet setting after all the craziness of the parks. We spent four nights in one bedroom villa in the Grandstand section, room 8603. It was spacious and clean. There were plenty of cooking utensils, full fridge, microwave, toaster and oven. It was easy to prepare our breakfasts and lunches using groceries I had pre-ordered from Garden Grocer.com. We really enjoyed coffee on our balcony overlooking the golf course as we watched the boats go by on the river. The bedroom was beautifully decorated with a king sized bed. There was a jacuzzi tub and vanity in a separate bathroom from the standup shower and toilet. We used the washer and dryer as well. Parents of young kids, look for the garbage disposal switch when you arrive. My five year old flipped it on before I had even seen it. I unplugged from under the sink. Another recommendation is to order more blankets when you arrive. The bedding is a bit thin. Yes, the decor was a tad dated but the overall impact was in tact. Very nice room. On our last night, we moved to a deluxe studio because it was just my daughter and me. My husband had to head back home before us. I was underwhelmed by the studio with its queen bed and general lack of space. I couldn't imagine being in this room for any length of time with more people. Admittedly, it was probably due to the move from a larger room. The pools were great, especially the Paddock pool and the High Springs pool. The pool at the Grandstand was cute, especially the little spray park. The Grandstand was the first drop off from the parks and an easy walk to dining, transportation and the golf course. It is pretty far from Disney Springs but manageable. We saw the Congress Park pool...it was packed but virtually silent, lots of grown ups reading. Not really for kids. Our trip to Disney Springs included a visit to the Lego store, we took the boat over..the launch was a quick walk from the Grandstand section. The Lego store was a great find, hours of free entertainment. Our trip home on the Magical Express was not good. It took our driver four other resort stops and 40 minutes to get off Disney property. We reported on time and were left with less than an hour and a half to get through the insanity that is Orlando Airport. I still had to check a bag and get myself and my small child through security. There was no time left to use the restroom or eat. I was almost in tears by the time we reached our gate. The plane was already boarding. I am taking this matter up with Disney. I would strongly recommend forking over the cab fare for a thirty five minute ride to the airport. Ours took nearly 85 minutes.
Travelled here with 14 members of my family. We had 2 villas opposite to each other. The rooms were always kept clean, both had a washing machine and small kitchen which is a must for a 2 week vacation with small kids! Reception desk always very helpful along with the shops. We had a small pool near our room which was fab for the smaller kids and good food service. The lifeguards were always in attendance.I went to spa on one day which was fab, really enjoyed the service there. We had an amazing trip and would definitely return here.
It's definitely time for management to take a little walk around the property and do a little quality control. Additionally, we found the bell staff extremely unaccommodating with exception of our bellman at departure. He was excellent. My husband is handicapped and when we asked for a ride to the ferry to visit Disney Springs, we were given instructions on what buses to take. So, what could have taken them five minutes to come pick us up and take us to the ferry turned into nearly 40 minutes as we waited for the 'internal bus' to pick us up. Upon our return we asked for a ride back to our Villa. Well it was obvious we put that bellman out because not only did he not speak, but he flew like a nascar racer through the resort. I was just hoping my six year old grandson didn't fall out! Despite the terrible service I still tipped him, but he sure as heck didnt deeserve it.The next night, carrying a full try of food and my daughter carrying additional bags for our family of six, we once again asked for assistance only to be turned away again. Yes, first we were going to a nearby pool as the main pool had closed, but we hauled that tray and bags of food until our grandson finished his swim. As we walked back to our villa we walked past the bell staff and, once again, not a soul jumped to assist. When we first approached them before the pool there were three just standing around; when we came around the second time, again, many were just 'waiting' to turn another visitor away.As far as the quality of our villa - the couch in the room, the main seating area, dipped you too the floor when you sat down on it. There was insufficient seating space for a family. One could write their name in the dust on the dressers and curios that held the TVs in each room. Very inconsistent in the cleaning - two days the dishes were placed in the dishwasher and washed, the next day not. The elevator doors look like they have not been cleaned in years and the same leaves that were in the elevator when we arrived were in the elevator when we left. Our check in was wonderful and very smooth; our checkout was wonderful and very smooth. Everything in between, with the exception of the quality of the food in the grill, was extremely disappointing. The resort is huge and if a visitor is handicapped then by gosh they should be obliged when assistance is requested and not told of every other option available when there are six and eight seater golf carts not being used and staff hanging around. Very disappointing. For this to be a 'premium' hotel, we would have expected much much more.
Having stayed at Old Key West two years ago, we were looking forward to comparing it with Saratoga Springs, its younger sibling. We were in a three bedroom luxury villa, and were very lucky indeed to secure one with 'preferred view', a sensational view across the lake towards Disney Springs. The villa has a large kitchen, dining room, lounge and one (large double bed) bedroom on the ground floor, and two bedrooms (each with two queen sized beds) and a gallery looking down on the lounge on the upper floor. As you'd expect of DVC, everything is spotlessly clean and in very fine condition. My only disappointment is that the balcony off the dining room is significantly smaller than at Old Key West, where we (5 people) could comfortably sit and enjoy breakfast together.Disney Security guards always greet you with the words 'Welcome home' and that is exactly what this lovely venue feels like, and exactly what makes the villas so attractive - it would be easy (where you rich enough!) to live in one - comfy, well appointed, with every convenience you could think of, and very quiet.Absolutely delightful, though on balance I think I prefer Old Key West with its slightly larger footprint and family-sized balcony.
Can't be more disappointed. We are Disney Vacation Club members and stayed in a two bedroom villa. Walked into extremely old appliances and furniture. Sofa bed, which we needed due to number of family, was almost uninhabitable. Old and disgusting. It actually was banana shaped due to its age. Bathrooms old and outdated. Shower head was probably 20 years old and didn't work. Bottom line? If we weren't members it would have been a minimum of $400 per night and certainly not worth it. There are better and nicer for less cost.
