Second time

This was my family 2nd time stay at this hotel. We have no complains we always stay here for the express passes at universal studios parks. I really wish we enjoy the hotel more but we stay for one day and 1/2 so we just did the parks. FYI my kids love breakfast at the Kitchen.

Great access

If you want to visit Universal Studios this is the place. Self or valet park and check in. After that it is only a short walk through a garden area or a short free water taxi ride to the park. Beautiful pool and pool bar. Looks good for kids although we didn't have any. The breakfast buffet at tThe Kitchen was good. Rooms were big and quiet.

Hard Knock Hotel

I really wanted to love this hotel! Believe me, my entire group was totally stoked about our visit. I absolutely loved all of the rock decor, costumes, and memorabilia that were thoughtfully incorporated throughout the hotel. The state of the rooms however, was disgraceful. I waited a month to write this review thinking that I only felt this way because it was so crowded for HHN 26 and that the staff was taxed with the influx of people, but such a feeling of raw disgust comes to mind when I think of our stay that I have to share it. In the hopes that they will improve immediately. Our $2,500 Club level stay earned us a free night which I will not use and wouldn't give to anyone as it would be a mean-spirited thing to do. To say that it was less than stellar is a gross understatement. I can't figure out for the life of me how Loews is affiliated with this hotel. Loews is synonymous with the quintessence of exceptional service, and I encountered the antithesis of this on arrival and throughout our stay. I am never a fan of any situation where I feel like I have to "fight" in order to spend my money. But the message I received was loud and clear and they never have to worry about me staying there or eating at one of their hotels or restaurants again. I'm a stickler for customer service and can literally count on one hand and have three fingers remaining how many people I encountered that truly embraced good customer service and were consistent every time I had an interaction with them. Now I know that Halloween Horror Nights is a busy time, our trip should have taken place from October 5th to the 12th at the Royal Pacific which we have stayed at before, however due to Hurricane Matthew we rescheduled for the only dates that we could spending our first five nights at the Hard Rock and our last two at the Portofino. We were assured during booking and at check-in that concierge would arrange to have our bags taken over to the Portofino which is also an on-site Hotel so that we would not have to sacrifice time that should have been spent at the parks. Perhaps the clientele that use this hotel are simply used to a lower level of customer service, I mean this in all sincerity and apologize if I have offended anyone by making that statement. But if I had never stayed at places where a superior level of customer service and attention to detail occurred on a regular basis I may not realize what I was missing out on by staying at the Hard Rock. I've never encountered such a lackadaisical and indifferent staff at any establishment let alone a Loews Hotel. I was floored and terribly underwhelmed. From the moment we checked in literally until we booked our OWN limo to transfer our own belongings to the Portofino on check out day we encountered incompetence and indifference at every turn. The major issues that we encountered are as follows.1) Chipped paint, stains on the carpet, thick layer of dust on lamps and other items that you wouldn't normally touch in the guest room. Shower wall had SCUM on it at check in. I called down and let them know that we wanted housekeeping to come up as it was a very late check-in and my party was exhausted and ready to go to sleep. I would have preferred to change rooms then, but didn't want to seem nitpicky since everyone else was sleepy and too tired to move luggage and stuff.2) Housekeeping came up an hour later, not terribly friendly but I can't imagine that I would have a big smile on my face if that was what I had to do at 1 o'clock in the morning either. {Which is why I didn't choose to go into customer service. }The gentleman came out and asked me what exactly I was talking about, and I knew then that he was probably the one who cleaned the room in the first place. When I pointed it out to him his face balled up in disgust, he knew just how gross it was. I was like "yeahhh, that's what I did when I saw it too". He shook his head and started cleaning it.3) after thanking him and tipping him I laid down to go to sleep and then realized that the intermittent sounds of running water that I thought were from a neighboring guests room were actually coming from our toilet for 30 to 60 seconds every 15 minutes or so. I called the front desk to let them know and told them that we wanted a new room first thing in the morning.4) Surprise!!!no room ready first thing. In fact there was no room ready until around 3:00 that afternoon. 5)The club level evening selections were dismal and disgraceful compared to the other on-site partner hotels. Often missing a substantial protein source. The seating in this area was also terribly limited compared with the number of club rooms that it services. Having stayed "club" nat both the Royal Pacific and Portofino in the past I was extremely disappointed with the selection of food.5) While at the poolside; the one with the slide. After sitting out there and making eye contact and exchanging gentle nods and light smiles indicating that we needed service with the waitress for about 20 minutes it finally dawned on me that I was actually going to have to waive my arm in the air to get service. She brought menus, and seemed surprised when we waived her down 10 minutes later to place our order. Because I wasn't charging it to our room she requested the credit card before bringing our food and drinks. Never came to check on us once the food came, one of my younger siblings actually had to go get an empty cocktail table from a few rows over to put our food on. She didn't come back to clear any of it away, and when I did request a check. It literally took her 18 minutes to bring it over. And she proudly stated with a smile "don't worry about the gratuity it's already included". I laughed so long and hard that my sister looked worried and fiance asked me if I was ok to which I replied "I hate this hotel." Beyond the fact that our 18% gratuity was included which probably is why our service was piss-poor. We tip generally between 25 + 30% for excellent service and 20 for mediocre. My sister was a waitress through college and I have a soft spot for them. Anyway, this lady was actually cheating herself by providing poor service.6) the checkout day lies about taking our luggage over to the Portofino Bay were the icing on the cake. After the bellhop never came to pick up the luggage, it was taken downstairs by my party, and then magically no one seemed to know what the plan was to get the luggage over to Portofino or when it would happen and when we asked for a town car to drive us over there since they seem to be having so much trouble figuring out this simple task we were told that they "could not provide us transportation to another hotel even though it was on site and affiliated with theirs." But it was fine for us to get shuttled over when we were going to spend our money at the other on-site hotels, never again will I stay at this awful Hotel. But before I close out, I must give credit where credit is due.Nan Vine serviced our Club level Lounge throughout our stay. She was an absolute gem; attentive, great attention to detail and truly a credit to the Loews name. Her presence there was the only positive consistent excellent example of customer service that we received throughout our stay. In closing, if you like "hard knock" situations, and don't mind inconsistent customer service and people not valuing your business you will probably have a great time here.

Review of the Hard Rock Hotel

Hard Rock Hotel rocks! From the sandy beach to the Hard Rock shop which has everything, our visits are awesome! Short walk to Universal Studios which makes it nice if you want to leave the park and go back to the hotel for a short nap before returning to the park. Great experience. Love the whole experience!!

Trying to be fare, but wasnt what I expected

Check in was great, couldn't ask for more friendly or and efficient service. We went right to the park. We rested the next day and I became excited to learn Jimmy Ray Vaughan was performing. Well, not for the guest.. The entire bar, balcony above the pool and the seating area where the band performed was rented out and closed off.. I didn't feel like a Rock Star.. The proximity is excellent if your going to Universal.. Probably will not stay again.. I have two more nights here so I will update it..
