Hawthorn Suites Lake Buena Vista
- What's Included
I had a great time at this hotel. The room was very nice but needs to get the furniture updated. We had a small kitchen with our room and a living room which was great. The only complaint I have was the cover sheet had a small red stain on it and I don't know what it was ( I didn't want to find out either). Bathroom was clean and big. Bed was comfortable. Breakfast had a lot of variety but you cannot take it into your room which I don't know why! Staff was friendly and the location was very convenient. Would stay here again only for a good price. Not worth $150 but maybe less than $100.
Everyone at this location goes above & beyond to make your stay as pleasurable as possible. Mayra hosts some great evening happy hours. Michael is great at the front desk and Alfredo makes sure everything operates mechanically sound. Raffael is a great manager. While the facility is excellent, i stay here 3-4 times a year mainly because of the staff!
This was our second visit, the first being about 13 years ago. On arrival I was slightly disappointed as I felt the room was very 'tired looking' but very well supplied. The beds were extremely comfortable. Housekeeping was lacking continuously with provision of bath mats, face cloths and tea towel. As the time went on we realised how good the facility was. The breakfast is good but hot food not great but there is plenty of other choice. You can always eat out for a change. Coffee was good but certain times during the 24 hours it was cold as well as the 'hot water' Happy hour was very good just wine and beer and snacks but very generous of the hotel to provide it. It gave us a chance to meet other people, Mayra in particular was very friendly yet professional and always looked smart. We were always hoping she would,be on duty. As we weren't doing any parks on this trip we did spend a lot of time by the pool in the afternoon, although not heated managed a swim every day. Good loungers and towels provided. Great location as you can walk to many restaurants, shops and Disney Springs. Also easy to drive to all the attractions, malls and outlets.
We began our stay here on 19th November 2016, and are still here at the time of writing this review. (Just for comparison, my mother wrote a review a couple of days ago - Debbie Hickmott - who is part of our party). I would agree with my mother that the hotel is a little tired in places. As my parents booked this hotel (and paid for it), they had a certain expectation which they don't feel was met (perhaps the accommodation was a little 'oversold' to them).Whilst they are travelling as a couple with disabilities, we are a family of three - one child aged 5. Despite the tiredness of the hotel, we've actually found it to be an ideal base for our visit to Disney (and surrounding areas). Our room is extremely comfortable (especially the two large beds, which are wonderfully comfy). The lounge area is also comfortable, and spacious. We appreciate having the dining table and chairs, and two televisions (one in the lounge area, and one in the bedroom). There is a decent amount of storage space (although six hangers in the wardrobe is a little on the mean side). There is a free digital safe in the wardrobe, which we've used every day. My mum is right in that the kitchen is a little too basic. For us, it has been convenient purely for making drinks and storing snacks - if we were not eating out as much (or ordering in), I think the kitchen would have been a struggle, as there are only two small rings to cook on. There is a microwave, however, and a dishwasher. My mum mentioned in her review that the dishwasher and fridge were old/noisy - this isn't the case in our room. Neither seem old, or noisy. The room would definitely benefit from a standard kettle - it is a little frustrating having to run the percolator each morning just to get some hot water for a cup of tea. The room is air conditioned, which can be configured within the lounge area. Our maid service has been excellent. Each day, the beds have been made, bins emptied, and even the dishwasher filled and run for us. There have been a few days where we have been short on time getting out to the parks, and we have returned to our dishes having been cleaned in the dishwasher. My mum mentioned her bins have not been emptied, but ours have been emptied every day. We've also had towel changes, along with toilet paper supplies. One thing I will agree with from my mum's review is that the breakfast here is pretty poor. The only positive thing about it is the staff, who have always been smiling and helpful. The food has been quite poor (which is unlike me to say, as I'm not typically a fussy eater, especially in these kind of hotels). The choice is poor, and the quality is just about passable. The scrambled eggs are cold and rubbery, and the other items are verging on unpleasant. The juice tastes like chemicals. In the two weeks we've been here, I've yet to have a breakfast that I could say I enjoyed. My parents ventured down to breakfast on our first morning, and haven't been back. I can't say I blame them, but we've been sticking to the toast (which has been paid for, after all). Aside from all of that, a couple of other comments that you may find useful:- There is a little shop 'area' in the hotel that carries some basics, which was much appreciated when we first arrived- The WiFi connection in the rooms is excellent, and consistent- The complimentary buses that take you to Disney actually take you to Epcot, and you get further buses from Epcot if you're headed to a different park. The first bus leaves at 830am, and I think the next one is around 1130am. The buses to Epcot from the hotel are unable to accommodate wheelchairs, which has meant we're paying $20 per day to leave our car at the parks- A number of local restaurants will deliver straight to your door. We've enjoyed meals from Flippers Pizzeria and Run & Run Chinese - A Mears taxi from Animal Kingdom to the hotel cost just under $30 - The rooms have both an iron & ironing board, and a decent hairdryerIn summary, this hotel is basic, but comfortable. If you have the $$$s to stay in Disney, I would imagine it would be a far more luxurious experience - however if you're looking for somewhere comfortable and basic to use as a base whilst visiting the area, I think this hotel would suit your needs.I think that's about it! I hope this review has been helpful, and I'd be happy to answer questions.
Having spent many holidays in Florida with our young family this year was about learning why my best friend drove me and her colleagues crazy about the black Friday weekend and holiday. We booked the holiday months ago, eagerly awaited the 'virgin' experience and trust me we were not disappointed from the point of booking to the our stay at the hawthorns. The accomadation iwhilst dated is excellent in terms of hygiene, service, and location. The staff cannot do enough for you helpful hints on how to travel, best times, ease of getting to your desired location. Service in the USA is often the 'butt' of jokes for being over the top, how wrong we are, if we all took the time to show the time of day, kindness and thoughtfulness off the staff at the hawthorns I have no doubts we would all be happier individuals. From our arrival we have been taken care of with the utmost kindness, helpfulness from all the staff. If I had a critique it would be that of the other guests, a complimentary breakfast is just that complimentary, and personally one of the best I have had. Complimentary evenings with Mayra as our host, like her colleagues, always smiling, kind and ensuring as guests we are taken care of to the highest standards. If you want a comfortable holiday, with helpful staff and a clean welcoming environment come to the hawthorns location to Disney is 5 mins and the same to some of the best shopping experiences we have had. Thank you to Mayra and all her colleagues you are a credit to your roles, your business and we look forward to seeing you again next year. Julia and Alan
