Hawthorn Suites Wyndham Universal
- What's Included
We stayed in the 1 bedroom suit that can sleep 6 people. There were 4 of us and it suited us perfectly! It was a great location close to Universal Studios. They had an amazing breakfast every morning with a variety of food. The morning shuttle was great with 2 different times in case we wanted to leave later that morning. I only wish the had a later shuttle than 6:55 in case we wanted to stay later but it was still better than having to take a Lyft everyday. If i am to nit-pick i would say that the shower did need a little maintenance in our room because it would drip all night if we didn't turn it to the perfect position. Overall it was an amazing stay and i would stay here again and recommend this place to anyone. Thanks!
Room was clean, two cooker ring didn't work, breakfast was plentiful, staff were helpful apart from one he was called zero he was the so called bar person many of nights we found to waiting up to 20 mins for a drink he had to cook food as well as serve at the bar,on one occasion I and another guest went to the kitchen door to see were he was,he was there but sat playing on his phone when asked if he was serving he said I am busy not amused to say the least, and when you finally do get served the first words were that's the price of the drink and that's my tip, badly undermanned bar
Firstly this is not the Savoy if your British or the Plaza if American, so be reasonable in your expectations.Having said that I couldn't really fault it. Ok so breakfast could have had a bit more choice, but it covered the bases and yes the hotel needs a bit of a refurb. Excellent location. Plenty of places to walk to and eat and shop within 10-15 mins.Lots of channel choice on the TVs. Wifi worked fine. Comfortable room and loads of amenities including fridge, dishwasher, coffee maker, microwave etc..Free shuttle buses to the parks. You just have to put your name on a sheet the day before. You eat breakfast in the same place where there is a small bar. Limited drinks and food. Not gourmet, but ok. They do a comps drinks hour twice a week too, where you get 2 free drinks (yes limited choice).Maid service was very good. Staff were all a friendly and helpful bunch. The pool and jacuzzi are fine way to cool down and splash. There is also a tv room where you can kick back after checkout on the day you leave.Small shop at reception for key drinks and snacks.
Where do I start:Checking in: Was met with a friendly smile by a guy who used to work for the Mouse he checked us in quickly asked about our day and even commented on our tattoos which was a nice foray into our 2 weeks there. 1 downside was that because we chatted so much he forgot to give us our parking validation but that was easily rectified on our trip out to the car that evening.Room: Comes with a kitchenette, Living room, separate bedroom and bath/shower with a middle room for wash basin.Kitchenette - fully stocked with pots and pans etc, free coffee and washer tablets for the dishwasher. Fridge freezer was in good order and the ice maker worked perfectly.Living Room - the layout was a bit iffy this time, you couldnt see the tv properly as the couch was length ways against the window, only real viewing spot was the chair facing the TV, other than that comfy and plenty of space with drawers and a coffee table.TV - all standard channels plus HBO, HBO2 and HBOFAM, was missing a TV guide to know what the channels were but we muddled through as we didnt spend too much time here.Bedroom - King/Queen bed was very very comfty I wanted to bring it home with me.Safe - Small but holds the essentials plus phones and an ipad, not good for cameras or any bulky expensive equipment.View from the bedroom - Looked out onto the neighbouring pool and could see Universal Studios, Could see the hulk and other rides.Bathroom - Tidy, shower pressure was pretty bad but I've only experienced good shower pressure at really expensive hotels in the US so wasn't a big deal for me.Pool - Great pool, during may you only really get sun from about 10-4 on the pool as the building obscures the sunlight before and after those times not that youd know it with the heat that time of year.Breakfast - Good variety, ranging from eggs, pancakes, bacon to fruit loops, muffins fruits and yoghurt.Bar - didnt really take advantage of this but prices seemed pretty good and they offer free drinks on a Wed/Fri from 6pm I think.Location of Hotel - Great location and nice and quiet, one of the itrolleys comes past the hotel for those without a car, but still within walking distance of Universal and they offer a free shuttle service to Disney and Universal.Other Comments - it seems like they are slowly redecorating the rooms as there was a lot of hustle and bustle taking fixtures and fittings out of the rooms on our floor but not enough to wake us up or anything.Great stay overall can't wait to come back.
Enjoyed our stay, rooms big enough for six, staff pleasant and helpful. Complimentary shuttle buses was a great but maybe a seven o'clock pick up would have been good. Not too big and not noisy at all.
