Hawthorn Suites Wyndham Universal
- What's Included
This was a relatively low priced hotel for Orlando and for the price it was pretty good. Couple of issues at the beginning of the holiday with us being given the wrong type of room. We couldn't be moved for a couple of days and had to keep asking when it would be sorted. Things improved after we moved rooms though.Positives: - Rooms were very spacious, clean and plenty of storage for all our clothes and luggage.- breakfast did change from day to day and there was sufficient variety of hot and cold food to set you up for the day but it was pretty standard quality. - decent enough selection of TV channels and WiFi was pretty good in our room.- pool clean and pretty quiet (in Sept). Large enough to do a few laps comfortably but not huge. - location just off I Drive perfect for access to everything yet also quiet.- good thing about the hotel, and this is where it has the edge over other hotels is the free shuttle to both Disney and Universal parks. Universal is not that costly to get to anyway as it's just a few trolley bus stops up the drive but it saves you a fortune if you're travelling to any of the Disney parks (when we were here a few years ago it was approx $50 to get to Disney in a taxi). Make sure to book well in advance the day before to be sure you get a seat . Negatives- no parasols outside by the pool so sitting outside becomes unbearable after 20 mins or so- breakfast very busy and difficult to get a table. Worse on a weekend.- outside tables very dirty. Squirrels constantly climbing all over them (even when you're eating). - no entertainment or activities in the hotel (not an issue for us but would be for some).- reception staff aren't great. One of them was a bit abrupt with someone's daughter and other clients and was a bit dismissive when we raised our complaint about the wrong room. It's very much a hotel you would use as a base only for your other activities in Florida. If you expect to spend a lot of time in your hotel I would advise you look elsewhere. If you just want a clean, pleasant suite to relax of an evening after a hard day pounding the parks then this is ideal. I would stay here again at this price if we came back as it represents good value for money.
We stayed here for 2 weeks over Christmas the place is basic but clean and the beds are comfy the house keeping staff you couldn’t fault them we had clean towels every day without fail. Breakfast was ok and you got free transport to the park from the hotel and back again.
Location was ok. Cleanliness was excellent. Transport to parks were good as well. Was very basic though. No entertainment on and no windows in rooms only had air conditioning which was freezing. Breakfast was good when we first arrived but it’s the same choices so you get bored very easily. Staff were lovely. Bar didn’t open till 5pm which is no good if you want to have a drink by the pool and it states you cannot drink, eat or smoke at the pool. there is a fridge in the reception which has cans of beer/cider but that’s about it. Nightlife wasn’t ideal mostly restaurant based few Irish bars about but you can get an Uber which would cost you round about $15 to go downtown Orlando. Plenty of bars and nightclubs down there but it is the where the locals go. Overall a good holiday would recommend if you are looking for somewhere just to sleep if you are out all day.
The staff was courteous. I have no complaints regarding the staff, but the facility was very disappointing. Besides the somewhat smelly rooms being in desperate need of a deep cleaning or overhaul, there were things that were just not acceptable. There was a dirty sock underneath the uncomfortable pull out couch. There was a constantly dripping faucet, AND almost no hot water- lukewarm shower at best. Both TVs had scratches on them. And there is no conditioner available- weird. The pillows were old and lumpy. Honestly, it was not what I expected from the other ratings. The hot breakfast was pretty unappetizing too.
We have just returned from a 3 week stay in orlando and would highly recommend staysky suites to anyone who wants space for the family without compromising on location. The suites are located just 1 street from I-drive but with less of the noise & traffic. Facilities are a little dated in the rooms but the place was spotless and the staff were fantastic. Special thanks to Rob, from guest services who was super knowledgeable and happy to help at all times. We wouldn't hesitate in returning next time we come to Florida! Great place to stay with family.
