We booked a two room suite for our family, room appearance was just like the pictures on their website. Over all the hotel was clean, fairly priced, convenient to everything, and friendly. Would give the hotel 4 stars, but the internet was very, very, very weak. We were on the 9th floor, and had 4 devices that could only get one signal bar each, out of 5. I expect much better internet in 2017, and from this chain. Devices would drop the internet moving from living room to bedroom. Kids complaining about it daily and asking help to log in over and over is why their score went down so much. Hotel definitely would benefit from investing into better technology and signal boosting to accommodate it's guests. Otherwise a great hotel, safe, friendly and clean with good shuttle services to the parks.
My family and I stayed here during a recent visit to Universal. Overall I would highly recommend this hotel. The front desk staff is very helpful, the rooms are large, the pool is very nice and kids eat free at the adjacent TGI Friday's (although they run out of alot of items often but that's not on the hotel). Overall i would highly recommend staying here although there were a few things that would keep me from rating this hotel a five. First off, two of the three elevators in the main elevator lobby were out of order the entire week we were there so there were often long lines to use the elevator during peak times in the morning and evening. Second, although the heated pool is lovely, the pool towels provided are extremely thin and barely bigger than a large hand towel so they don't absorb much. We'd usually have to use three or four just to be dry enough not to leak water all over the floor while we waited for the elevator. These are two things that I believe could be addressed fairly easily and would contribute to a much more enjoyable experience for guests. That being said the postive far outweigh the negative and we hope to return soon!
We loved staying at this Holiday Inn. We stayed in October which is not a busy time of year so the shuttle worked out great for us. You need to sign up to take the shuttle at guest services and they have many times during the morning to go to Universal. The return shuttles from the park start at 4:30 until 8:00. The return shuttle was 10 minutes late one day only but right on time the next day. We did drive the first day and the shuttle was much easier. The pool was closed during our stay but we were able to swim next door at the Hyatt. we wish we could have used our own pool because it looked lovely and of course reopened the morning we were checking out. The staff was top notch from check in to check out. I wish I could remember all the names of the staff Tiffani, Rafael, Karen, Chad and all the guest services staff. The room was spacious, comfortable and clean although the carpet could be replaced. We only stayed in a standard room but it was big enough for 2 adults and 2 children. It had a small refrigerator , microwave and keurig coffee maker (teabags were also provided) The breakfast buffet was good at TGIF and their staff was top notch. WE only ate dinner once at TGIF but had the best waiter named Reece. Great value for a family vacation.
If your going to Universal with kids, then it's hard to beat the holiday inn. It's a 15 min walk to the gates, which you learn quickly to do, as the local shuttle service is horrible. Turns up late and then the driver basically gives you a lecture before moving on. Do yourself a favour and Just walk it instead. Lots of food options near it and a Walgreens for incidentals. Rooms are large, clean and the pool is great (unfortunately it was closed for most of our stay). Unlike the rest of the USA, this room had a fridge, which is great in the hotter months. The check in was handled by the nicest person who then gave the kids heaps of tokens for the games machines, which was really appreciated. All in all for the money, very pleased. As a general rule don't take the cabs the hotel lines up for you. Our one cab experience was horrible, turned me into an uber advocate very quickly.
Do not stay here due to shuttle service. We chose this hotel due to being located directly across the street from Universal Studios. We had a terrible experience with the shuttle service, you are better off walking or taking an uber. We took the shuttle two days for a really dreadful experience. The hotel doesn't offer direct shuttle service but a Local Shuttle that was often overbooked. The shuttle was never on time and shuttle departures were limited time only. However worst part was the driver was angry every day. We boarded the morning bus and sat down when the driver made a morning announcement while parked in place, refusing to drive the bus until everyone on the bus gave their full attention. He then began to scold the riders in the back as if they were school children on a field trip, however it was unprovoked as they were not talking or causing any mischief. This happened both days we rode the shuttle, same speech. On the final day we decided to just walk to avoid the harassment of the driver. Our first day at the park it rained so we decided to catch the 7pm shuttle back to our hotel. The driver showed up at 7:40, but decided to wait until 8:10 to avoid having to make another pick up that night. Waiting on a late shuttle after a long cold, rainy day at the park is an unpleasant situation to say the least. The shuttle was already full and couldn’t even fit the 8:10 people comfortably. We got to a point where we just decided to get off and take an Uber instead of deal with this driver any further that day. For a hotel that is a mile away from Universal Studios I would expect a more effective shuttle service.Besides the shuttle the Hotel was as expected for a Holiday Inn. Clean rooms and helpful staff.
