Holiday Inn & Suites Across from Universal Orlando
- What's Included
Checked in July 10th. I went to the front desk and asked about room status and the lady told me it wasn't ready. She said it would be about 10-15 mins. I came back in 15 mins and it still wasn't ready. She offered us 6 breakfast coupons at the TGIF connected to the hotel for our inconvenience. There were 6 of us and we had a two bedroom suite. It was clean, and plenty of room considering we were at the parks most of the time. Beds were comfortable and sheets were good quality. Pool was clean and provided towels. The only cons I had with this hotel were that they need to include breakfast. TGIF breakfast is way over priced 12.99 for the quality of food you get. The other con was parking. The parking lot fills up by 930 so if you venture out you will have to circle the parking lot for a space. It is convenient to universal. The crosswalks are good and if you cut through the parking garage it will cut time off your walk.
Stayed here for 2 weeks in mid June with my wife and 2 kids and enjoyed it thoroughly. Check in we had no problems although it was busy we were seen quickly ,staff were very pleasant and always greeted you with a smile . We got a room on the ground floor just across from the exercise room and laundry room which was very convenient, the only issue was piped music which was quite loud at night ,we asked reception could this be turned down ever so slightly but It wasn't . For the price it was excellent value and thank you Holiday Inn for being part of a holiday of a lifetime .
My family of 4 (2 adults with an 11 and 13-year-old) stayed 5 nights July 11th-16th. When we arrived a very nice bellhop helped us with our luggage. Not exactly easy as we had 3 luggage bags, a cooler, carry-ons, and grocery bags from a grocery store stop. The hotel kindly held our trolley of junk in a locked room while we waited for our room. We used the pool while we waited. The pool is small but enough to get cool and was clean. The toddler splash area did not seem to be working but I have big kids so didn't really investigate. The lounge chairs had seen MUCH better days. One was completely shredded. There is really no shade at all by the pool so you will bake! I think I saw all of 1 table with an umbrella. Here is the only hiccup we received: We checked in around 11 am and were told that someone would call when the room was ready. Check in is not until 3 pm so this was expected. Well, 3 pm came and went and we received no call. At about 3:45 I decided to check with the front desk and our room was ready, looked like it had been ready for a while as our key and paperwork were towards the back of the pile. A bit disappointing as the waiting had cut into our visiting time with family that lives in the area. The good in the room: HUGE. We had a standard 2 Queen room. Plenty of space around both beds. A decent sitting area with chair and footstool by the window. Space galore, enough to set up another queen mattress if we had brought one! A big desk we used as a table for our snacks. 4 drawer dresser, perfect for 4 people. Nice sized TV. Carpet, along with the entire bedroom area seemed clean. Beds were VERY comfortable. We had a decent sized mini fridge, Keurig coffee maker (bring extra as they only provide 2 regular and 1 decaf pod each day and save your cups as you also only get 3, although I'm sure they would give more if you asked, everyone was nice), and a standard sized microwave. Nice, thick, towels. The air conditioning works very well, maybe too well! Wifi worked well but was a trick to get into, at least for our devices. The bad in the room: The pleather on one of the headboards was peeling and scratched up which made me feel a little, ick. Our view was atrocious. Miles of rooftop complete with a view of various junk left up there and an ancient cigarette package. The bathroom is tiny, especially compared to the rest of the room. The vanity is awkwardly high. I'm 5'6" with long legs and the top of the counter was well above my belly button. The vanity counter space is non-existent. Bring something to keep your toiletries in and hang on the back of the door or you will have nowhere to put them. The edges around the bathroom could have been cleaner, especially by the tub where it was very discolored. Most of the bathroom did seem very clean. I'm fairly sure the maids snatched at least one of my individual flavored creamers brought from home. I had left 2 in the box the day before we left so I could have 2 cups the morning we left, only one was in there in morning. The Location: This could not have been more perfect, unless you were staying on site. Actually, the Double Tree next door allows you to miss crossing one street which would have been slightly better but that is very picky and not a big deal. It was a quick 15-minute walk to the car valet area of City Walk. You want to enter City Walk via the car valet as security there was never busy, practically walk right in. You will cross 4 roads with 2 of those being on Universal property. First, exit the hotel and cross Major Blvd toward the Double Tree (there is a crosswalk in the middle of the road so you don't have to go all the way down to the light) to get to the Kirkman light. Then you cross Kirkman. The big, scary road (Kirkman) was easy to cross as long as you wait for the "walk" signal and watch for cars turning right. Car turning right DO NOT like to stop. The light gives you PLENTY of time so just be careful. Just a few steps after you cross Kirkman on Major you will be on Universal property. You will cross one more regular road with a crossing light and then you will cross the entrance to the valet park. The walkway is very pretty, wide and feels safe, even at 11 at night. Adults, older children and small children/toddlers in strollers should have no problem doing this walk. We did it every morning and night for 4 days. Easy-peasey. We never once felt the need to use the shuttle, seemed easier and more relaxing just to walk.Summary: Decently clean, comfortable, budget friendly hotel in a WONDERFUL location. Perfect for a family Universal vacation!!! I would not hesitate to stay here again. Very happy with our choice!
My boys and I stayed there from Monday to Friday July 10 to July 14, 2017. We absolutely loved the stay. Mrs. Ivelisse and Ms. Charli were outstanding patrons of the hotel. They greeted us everyday with smiles and offerings of assistance. I had a few questions for them and they went out of their way to make sure I had answers. I also asked for accommodations for one of my kids to have a rollaway bed. Mrs. Ivelisse was on the spot with assuring we have one awaiting us when we reached the room. I would stay here again in a heartbeat.
Not bad at all for the cost - again for us it was only a quick one night stayRoom could do with a touch up but it didn't bother meNoise levels where a little higher but then again it seems like this hotel is much more geared towards families.TGI Fridays is attached to hotel which made eating easyIt's about a 10 min walk to Universal Overall not bad at all
