Holiday Inn & Suites Across from Universal Orlando
- What's Included
The hotel is located right across from Universal and has a convenient shuttle service (limited times and slots) that can take you to Universal or City Walk. TGI Fridays being on the premises also makes it convenient to grab a bite to eat.Front desk staff are nice, and they keep the lobby floors clean and dry at all times (with all the rain on and off this season). Unfortunately, we can't say the same about the cleanliness of the rooms. Our suite seemed to have dingy sheets when we first arrived, and the drawers were not wiped down (had hair and misc. dirt). One of the shower drains was getting clogged and when my sister in law pulled the drain plug out, there was a whole bunch of gross hair and who knows what else that came up with it. We mentioned this to the maid the next day and let her know that the showers were getting plugged up because the drain plugs were not getting cleaned. She said she wasn't aware and she wasn't the one who cleaned the room the previous day. After the 2nd day, we asked for all the sheets to be changed which they did. Maid service after that did improve and they brought us extra coffee, towels, etc. whenever we needed. The main pool was nice and heated for the kids, the toddler pool was cold. The only turn off was that towards the end of the night, the pool got busier and some guests for some reason think it's ok to walk to the pool and go in the pool and rinse their feet at the stairs with flip flops and sandals still on! After observing this, I told my kids to go ahead and get out of the pool. In summary, it was a good hotel for the price. It was great that they don't charge any parking and resort fees and the location is very convenient and close to the theme parks, stores, other hotels, etc. The hotel is busy during summer so expect the large crowd in the pool. Hopefully management increases their pool maintenance during these peak times for the health and safety of the pool patrons. I would also ask management to make sure they have enough staff to clean and turn the rooms over during these peak times so they're not rushing to clean each room.
I had to wait 30 minutes to check in at 10pm. 1 manager was trying to help several people. The person that waited on me said she was training. Received a sheet with the shuttle times and was told to get tickets at the guest services desk. I was disappointed because I wasn't aware you needed tickets and there was a limited basis for the shuttle. Luckily, it is only about a mile to walk. The shuttle also returns in the evening first come, first serve, but there is 50 minutes to an hour if you miss the time you wanted to leave. Room was decent. I booked a 2 double bed room. Bathroom was not very clean. I picked up several hairs on the first night. Housekeeping was hit or miss. I had to hunt down a maid to get towels. We had 4 people staying in our room and received 3 towels and 1 washcloth. No free breakfast but I expected this as I am an IHG rewards member. Parking lot is very full. Surrounding area is nice with lots of options on International Drive not too far away.
Great stay! Room was clean and spacious. The free breakfast was great for any type of diet. I have type2 diabetes and had plenty of choices. I definitely stay here again! The hotel had pool, weight room and washer dryers available. Free Wifi was easy to access. The front staff was very accommodating. It was a family friendly plane ce. It is close to a number Restraunts. It is just off a parkway. When traveling to Orlando be sure you have a good supply of change for tole roads. You will need quarters and dollars. If you have a Peach Pass it is honored.
Holiday inn universalThis was a 3-night stay in one of their 2-bedrooom suites. The important things with Holiday Inns is not to expect too much, a comfortable and clean room is about all you should expect. In hot places Aircon too. Expect that and you should have little to complain about. Even so, make sure you do complain if, like me, that's not what you've got. When we checked in ground floor room smelled a little of mould and was very warm. We just dumped our stuff, cranked up the Aircon to maximum and went straight out to get some food. Arriving back an hour later and ready for bed we found our room the same temperature and mouldy smell as it had been an hour earlier so I rang reception saying the Aircon wasn't working and could we be switched. When this happens the usual reaction is an answer asking me to hold on a mo while they look at my profile, realise that I'm a 75-night stayer at their hotels and hence would know how to switch on Aircon and offer a move. Here, although they had other suites the same size as mine unoccupied they were extremely resistant to a move insisting their engineer only needed to remove a grille and all would be OK. Of course it wasn't, cue an hour of back and forth till they finally moved us to another suite exactly the same on the 5th floor where as soon as we entered we found a complete absence of mouldy smell and a cool room. We then passed 3 very happy nights there, housekeeping was good, the TGI Fridays on-site was excellent and very reasonably priced too. The hotel itself is a 20 minute pleasant walk to Universal and we did the walk there and back every day. Overall I do recommend the hotel, it's good once you get a clean air conditioned room, if you don't on arrival, insist on a move, but beware, even if you stay at hotels loads this place will be reluctant to move you and determined to keep you in a substandard room. If we'd been given keys to our second room straight off, or if they'd done what most hotels do when a regular complains and moved us without an hour battle then this would be a 5-star review, convenient, clean, much cheaper than the on-site hotels, restaurant in-site, comfy rooms, what's not to like? But a one-hour jetlagged battle that had to go up to the manager to get a room change out of a non-Aircon room leaves me with a very average feeling. If you don't like battling for what you've paid for you may wish to go elsewhere, but if you persist you can get a nice room for a good price here. On balance, I think I would return...
Arrived in the late evening, had to wait 20 minutes to check-in, was 2nd in the row?? Standing in the elite check-in row as a gold ambassador ihg member. Room was good! Comfortable bed, terrible bathroom where you can barely move. Window can not open, and not soundproof, many noice from corridor as the doors leave a space of 10cm under it! Swimmingpool is small, very crowded and bad chairs.. planned to stay 3 nights but checking out after 2 nights after a 2bd very rude receptionist (glasses and long dark hair telling me to go back in the line and letting several guests through which where actually beyond me. Airco makes terribly noice. Front office manager is very friendly but walks through even if there are people waiting at the desk! Summary: good room, terrible staff, leaving this hotel earlier then expected.
