Holiday Inn & Suites Across from Universal Orlando
- What's Included
Stayed at the end of July this year. We stayed here because it was close to universal and it was. Beautiful 10 minute walk that we made daily. We stayed in a one bedroom apartmeny with 5 of us. 3 adults and 2 kids. Plenty of room for us all. The kitchenette was really handy. The rooms were cleaned daily and the maids were so friendly. Pool area was great and never packed perfect after a long day in the parks. The i ride stop was outside and we purchased the 14 day tickets for this and used it to get to international drive. We also ate in Friday's twice and really liked the food. All in all a great stay and would return.
We have stayed at this hotel twice now because it is convenient and centrally located to Universal Studios. You are literally across from the parking garage. You can walk to Universal in about 15 minutes. They do have a bus that runs to the theme park several times in the morning but it only runs 3 times in the evening. I do not know if it runs to other theme parks like Disney. There is a TGI Friday's at the end of the hotel to grab drinks and dinner. There is no hot tub here. If you are getting the late check out and the desk tells you that they put it on the roster so housekeeping doesn't bother you, I would highly recommend placing the do not disturb sign in your door. Housekeeping knocked twice and came in our room once while we were trying to sleep in. This is a great family friendly hotel. There are laundry facilities for you to do your laundry. There is a gift shop that's a bit pricey. Overall great hotel if you are visiting Universal.
I chose this resort based on the following. It was Dog Friendly, Had Rooms Available. My family was returning home after evacuating Hurricane Irma, and needed a place to stay after 20+ hours of driving in insane traffic. The only hotel we were able to find that was Dog Friendly that still had a room was this one. At check-in I was given a statement to sign and had to pay a non-refundable $50.00 for our dog. The statement said you can not leave pet in the room unattended at any time. Even if the pet is in a crate it is not allowed. I asked about this and was rudely tossed a paper of pet friendly restaurants in the area, because that's what you want to do in 98-110 heat index days, go sit outside. But we were desperate so we took the room. The check in agents were all very rude and abrupt, giving an attitude like guest were bothering them by being there. At no time during check in was the onsite breakfast option in the attached TGI Fridays mentioned to me, or was the fact the hotel pool was closed for remodel.I was given very vague directions to side entrances where we could park and unload car, rather pushed to use their bell service. First signs something would be amiss with the whole hotel was that only 3 of the 5 elevators were working. Once we checked into the room, we found more issues. There was mold and mildew all over the tile grout in the bathroom shower. The Shower Drain did not work, we had to remove it completely to get it to drain. The shower head was calcified so badly water went everywhere. The Towel rack next to the sink fell off the wall when touched, as well as tissue dispenser. The floors were all filthy to the point we did not want to be barefoot or let our infant be on the floors without blankets down first. The cover sheets on the beds were dirty as well, and dust on all the flat surfaces. In the small kitchenette, the counter was not cut short enough so you had to force the fridge door closed or it would hit the counter. The pool was closed but no one mentioned this, it was being redone. Staff all over hotel were just rude. Had staff been nice it would of compensated for the dirty room. I have stayed in roadside motels with cleaner rooms. Room was 632 if you want to check it out.
I recently stayed at this property for 4 nights to escape hurricane Irma which created chaos throughout Florida. Even under these circumstances, everything was perfect from check-in to check-out. The front desk staff (two younger ladies in particular) were so sweet, kind and accommodating and truly seemed to care about each guest. They handle the stress better than I could ever expected with a smile on their face. The maintenance guys were there 24/7 helping guest move in and taking care of everything. The house keeping employee on the 7th floor suite side was very kind and checked to make sure we had everything we needed each day and never seemed bothered. The hotel room was awesome - very clean - two rooms with clean furniture and full kitchen. Overall wonderful stay during an extremely stressful time - I would give this hotel staff 6 stars if I could!
I must give a huge shout out to the staff at this location!!!! You guys freaking rocked it like a hurricane!! From the GM, yes the GM who rode out the hurricane with his staff working in the lobby to make sure guests stayed safe, to the food staff providing snacks and an activity room with games and movies...to the maintenance guys running in the rain to protect the outside of the hotel in the middle of the storm......and the front desk staff who were hugging guests who were scared and playing with the kids to distract them from the big scary storm; my hat is off to YOU ALL who made the entire hotel feel safe during the storm!
