Lovely hotel, lovely staff, lovely experience

We had two nights in this hotel primarily so we could get the Express Passes for the Universal theme parks. We were greeted well and the staff we spoke to were very friendly, efficient and knowledgable. We arrived early so our room wasn't ready, but we were given our express passes and could check in anyway, and then I received a test when the room was ready, which is a good feature. The room was a bit smaller than I expected (but hotel rooms generally are!), was kitted out to a high standard and very clean. We had a club room which gave us access to the club lounge. This was good because not only was there free food and drinks at certain times of the day, the staff were very knowledgable and friendly and could help you out with things such as restaurant bookings. We used the free boat shuttle to the parks a lot, and this was a lovely little journey and made getting to the parks very easy. The hotel itself is beautiful and luxurious and had a very calm feel. We ate once in the Orchid Dining Room and the food was lovely and service very good. I would definitely go back to this hotel again if visiting Universal theme parks.

The only thing good about this hotel is the Express Passes

Our room was not ready when we arrived but we fully expected that as we arrived around 11:00am. Things only went down hill from there. When we arrived in our room, our roll-a-way bed was not set up and instead jammed into the corner, making it very difficult to even open the door. I had to make a call for someone to come set up the bed. Next, the door to the bathroom fell off its track while my ten year old was in the bathroom. He narrowly escaped injury and it was quite a feat to get him out. I called to have the door fixed and the refrigerator fixed, which was also not working, at the same time. A engineer came to fix the bathroom door in a relatively timely manner but would not look at the refrigerator, at that was deemed another department. By 10:00pm I cancelled the refrigerator repair because my children were asleep & I didn't want them woken up by the repair person. We had a room facing the pool and were kept awake by a VERY loud movie that was playing at the pool, we were never informed at check-in that a movie would be playing at the pool area. The next day the door fell off again, uggh! We were promised a credit for the inconveniences and only received half of it. The pool area was very dirty and it was extremely difficult to get any drink service. I will NEVER stay here again!

Excellent location for a suprisingly relaxing theme park holiday.

On arriving at the hotel, we were warmly greeted and didn't have to wait long to check in (ideal after a long flight fro the U.K.) Our room was clean and tidy, just about enough room for myself and my two children, but we didn't plan spending much ti,me in there anyway. I had emailed prior to our arrival advising that as y son is Autistic, we would appreciate as quiet location as possible. Not sure if the email was read as I didn't receive a response, which is a bit off for a hotel of this standard. I was glad we hadn't paid extra for a pool view room, as it was quite noisy. Our room overlooked the Watalu area and as we went to this, no sound issues here for me to worry about. The pool, probably unsuprisingly for suach a large hotel, could be quite busy late afternoon, however, the hotel itself felt very calm and tranquil despite the large number of guests staying. We ate in all of the hotel restaurants and had excellent food and service. I'd decided not to go for the club option and didn't regret my decision - we had breakfast in the hotel most mornings. The walk/boat ride to the theme parks was lovely. As I was the only driver, it was nice to be able to walk to dinner or pop into one of the parks in the evening.I do, however, have a few niggles. Three people were staying in our room, yet each day we only received two cups for the coffee/ tea machine and I had to ask repeatedly for an extra cup. Supplies of tea/coffee were also a bit stingy - it would have been nice to have been able to have more than one cup per day. I mentioned earlier that I had requested as quiet a room as possible, and though our room was in a quiet part of the hotel, we were quite near to the lift, which'dinged' constantly. I didn't realise until the first night, after which time we'd already unpacked. In fairness to the hotel, I didn't bring this up with them at the time and I'm sure they would have moved us if we had requested. In all, however, we had a lovely stay, so much that my son didn't want to leave! (This was his first trip to somewhere unfamiliar and staying in a hotel). We will certainly return.

Close to parks but very expensive

Typical posh impersonal hotel, expensive but has the advantage that you can walk to Universal. If you don't like a/c don't stay there, all the communal areas are uncomfortably cold. Average meal at Emeril's. Pool OK but cold. Can't comment on general food provision as we didn't eat there - it was too expensive

Great Universal hotel with express passes included

The hotel rooms were clean and comfortable. Decorated in pacific style. The pool was lovely, slightly heated, and perfect to cool down in after a long day walking through the theme parks. The water taxi transportation to citiwalk and the parks was great and we never had to wait long for one. Great perk was that you get unlimited express passes included in the hotel price from the day of arrival to the end of the day you depart so we arrived at 8.30am to checkin so we could head straight into the parks. You also get to go into the Wizarding world of Harry Potter an hour early, but that is a bit of a damp squib as all the hotels get this benefit and so it is rammed. Car parking is quite expensive. Staff were helpful and friendly. Overall a great little stay.
