Oak Plantation Resort
- What's Included
I booked Oak Plantations through Priceline. This resort was not one of the listed possible resorts and after reading the reviews I was very skeptical to stay there but unable to be refunded per Priceline policy I had not an option. I always book through Priceline and have always been pleased so I tried to go in with an open mind. Check-in was smooth and staff was friendly. Once I got to my room I could see why some reviews were bad. It was very outdated, the sofa bed had springs falling out and a horrible mattress, the pillows were about as thick as 4 sheets of paper towels, the washer/dryer did not work, the toilet seat was falling off, a towel rack was pulled out of the wall, it appeared to have mold on the trim, there were missing items, from the list the resort provides, in the condo (toaster, safe, silverware, etc). Our first morning there we were heading to Disney and got up to get ready and we had no hot water (that can just through your morning off) after calling the front desk for about 45 minutes someone did come but of course it could not be fixed in a timely manner so we all had to take cold showers. We got in late that night and yes we had hot water! The night before I had asked for a blanket and more pillows and 24 hours later still did not have them. The pool was ok, kiddie pool did not appear clean and had many bees flying around it. The fence around the pool had a lot of rust. The peacocks that live there (I counted 8, not sure if there is more) I was not a fan of. One sat for hours perched on the railing outside a door. I, who does not like birds, would have been a prisoner in my condo or stuck outside until it leftThe next morning we went to the manager, Dawn I believe, who listened to all of the issues we had experienced thus far at the resort. A few hours later we were moved to another room, upgraded to a 2 bedroom that was a huge difference from the room we had (we actually thought it was a model condo). I should have probably spoken up the first day when I saw the room because it was definitely not the 3-star resort they claim to be. But I will say that the resort did meet a 3-star rating once we moved to the much nicer room. I very much appreciate the manager listening and improving our stay. I saw remodeling going on while I was there and hope one day the resort will have all the nice rooms, and they should probably hold off from renting out the dismal old rooms to keep from getting so many negative reviews.
When I made my reservation I requested 2 beds, when I got there they advise me that the second bed was a "sofa bed" the AC wasn't working, the Dryer wasn't working.I call the front desk twice to request maintenance and the "same front desk person" didn't release either messages. The kids pool was dirty, when I got there I requested not housekeeping and twice they when in my room I even talk to the Manager. This is why my experience in this resort wasn't good.
I checked in to the Oak Plantation yesterday, and after checking in at the front desk (staff was very cordial), I told them that I wanted an updated room, on the first floor. They gave me room 405, and I got in the door, looked around a bit, pulled the sheets back on the bed, and the sheets had dirt on them, the floor boards are in real bad shape, the carpet, bad, and the furniture old and damaged. I asked them to move me to another room that was updated, clean, with clean sheets, carpet, and new furniture. They did move me and I am satisfied with the room. It's nice, with newer carpet and furniture, and much, much cleaner. The price was really good, but my advice if you stay here is to check the room out before accepting it and make sure it's to your liking before you agree to take the room. They are updating the place, but I can see why people have given this place some bad reviews. Too bad. I like it here, the grounds are made for people with families.
I booked through Amoma, so luckily I only paid about $80 per night for the hotel. If I had paid the listed price I would have never checked in. I arrived about 3:15 pm, so I understood that I would not be able to check in until 4. However, due to complete inefficiency I did not get into my room until 5pm. I received the keys to my room at 4:45pm with the excuse that the room wasn't ready yet. (I wouldn't realize how ridiculous this excuse was until the day I checked out.) When we went to the room the keys didn't work. I had watched many people come back to the lobby complaining that their keys didn't work while I waited to be checked in. It seems this is the norm. After another 15 minutes of going back and forth someone came and fixed the key issue. The room itself has dated appliances, no hot water in the shower, and is pretty basic. I took a shower at night and my mom took her shower early in the morning. Both times there was no warm water, let alone hot water. The "complimentary shuttle" to Disney was a nightmare. There is only one pick up and one drop off offered. The shuttle arrived 30 minutes late in the morning. The evening shuttle leaves Epcot at 10:35pm, which is 1.5 hours after the park closes. The driver did not seem to have a set route for drop offs and drove like a maniac, making u-turns at random despite the fact that he was driving a bus. He also dropped everyone off at the road close to their hotel and did not drop them off at the entrance to the hotel. This is the first hotel that I have stayed at where the guest takes care of the majority of the house keeping duties. You are to take all of your linens and trash to the front of the building to be disposed of in two garbage bins, as well as wash and dry any dishes that are used. It made me wonder what could have possibly caused such a delay on the day of check-in considering the guest takes care of half the job.I wouldn't stay here again and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. If there was better service and hot water it may be worth it, but overall it's one to skip.
We stayed at Oak Plantation for 6 nights. I read reviews before going so I was somewhat prepared. The place is rundown, tiles in our bathrooms were cracked, carpets seemed dirty. Staff was rude! I would think the least they could do would be to have pleasant staff. We had to call 3 times just for toilet paper, after going to the office to try and get some. Each time we called the office for anything we were treated like an annoyance. I don't think this is a 3 star resort. 2 stars is pushing it. I gave it a chance because I have friends who have a time share but next time I would rather spend a little more just to have a little decent customer service. Also, I realize that it gets hot in Florida but cleaning out rain gutters and blowing leaves with a leaf blower at 8:30 every morning seems a bit ridiculous. We were there on vacation and didn't get to sleep in because of the loud leaf blowers! Disappointing!
