Residence Inn Orlando at SeaWorld
- What's Included
Took grand children to Sea World Orlando. Arrived at hotel about 3:00 p.m. So we could arrive at Sea World after four to see Christmas lights. Upon arrival requested an extra blanket and was told by front desk they would send up an extra comforter. Upon entering our room we immediately noticed trash in the waste baskets, and the carpets were dirty (not vacuumed). That evening we noticed that the tub and shower walls had hair from previous guest. We had to clean the tub and shower wall ourselves in order to use. I also went to front desk to find out where the gym was and was greeted in a condisending rude manner. I asked to speak with a manager and was told he was not available. I requested that the manager call me on my cell phone. I was assured he would call me this same day. He never did. Oh by the way we never did receive the extra comforter we were promised. I called the hotel the following day after checking out to speak with the manager who assured me that my Marriott Rewards points used to pay for the room would be credited back to my account. We will see.
The slogan for this hotel says "It's not a room, it's a residence" and I could have quite happily made this my residence for quite a while. Actually we were only able to stay for a few days, but the suite we had was very spacious and comfortable and included some amenities that we don't even have at home (like the dishwasher and two full bathrooms). The first morning the shower was running a bit cool, but we found we could get all the hot water we wanted by showering earlier in the morning or in the evening. It was not really pool weather (mid-November), but I liked the look of the pool and spent a fair bit of time sitting reading in the pool area and in the attached garden and I especially liked the fact that there were different styles of seating available (tables with umbrellas, wicker furniture, rocking chairs, etc.), so you could pick what you liked or move about during the day. One day I looked up and realized that a man near me had had his beer knocked over somehow by his companion; a staff person rushed over and asked what he had been drinking and came back with a fresh drink and towels to wipe up the spill. I thought this was very classy on the part of the staff person. All the employees we encountered were courteous and helpful. Some other reviewers have mentioned the breakfast. I found it more than adequate; there was a good choice of hot and cold items. I did notice the amount of waste because of paper plates and plastic cutlery being provided; I assume that someone has done a study and found that this is less costly than hiring staff to wash dishes, but I wonder if it is less or more harmful to the environment than using water and detergent. It's a hard call to make. I was surprised that the staff person cleaning our kitchen ran the dishwasher when we had only used a couple of glasses. For sure that was very wasteful and made a bit of a mockery of the usual sign in the bathroom inviting guests to re-use their towels. We did not visit SeaWorld on this visit, because we were there for a business meeting, but I'm sure that anyone who was visiting in order to go to SeaWorld would find the hotel very well located. There's not much else to see in the vicinity, however. The hotel could do with a proper dining room. There is a grill next to the bar, but the offerings are pretty limited. However, I suppose that most guests make use of the kitchens in the suites and do their own cooking. This would certainly be a good options for families, to help limit their food expenditures. There is one upscale restaurant in a nearby strip mall and the food there was very good.
We stayed for 5 nights in a family suite with two queen beds. The beds were very comfy and the set up was nice having a separate kitchen/ living room area. However, the sofa was small and very oddly shaped. They need to have a normal sized sofa or add a chair. It was quiet and parkiing was ample. They don't charge for parking or internet and they have a pretty decent free buffet breakfast each morning. You get a lot for your money staying here. It is about a 15 minute walk to seaworld, but they offer free shuttles as well as quick que passes for free. If you plan to do seaworld, you can't go wrong here. I will say that during our stay a guest had their brand new car vandalized in the parking lot and I heard this has been a common thing lately here. We just parked close to the building each day night for safety and we never had an issue. House keeping did a great job here too.
My partner and I stayed here for 2 weeks and on first impressions we were entirely happy with the room and service we were provided with. But during our stay we had an issue with the cleaner. I stupidly left £60 sitting beside the television one day when I went out and upon returning the £60 had disappeared. Instead of assuming that the cleaner had taken it I thought she had maybe moved it. But the money never appeared whilst we were there. I know this is my own fault for leaving money out but you don't expect the cleaner to be taking any of your belongings whilst she goes in to clean. Then one day we had a box of cookies sitting on the table, and after the money had went missing, my partner joked that the cleaner would steal some cookies. Right enough we came home that night and the cleaner had the nerve to help herself. I know it's only a cookie and if we had been there when she was, we probably would've offered her one anyway. This left us wondering what else had gone missing not just from us but from other guests aswell. We tried to contact the manager twice when we were there but both times we were told the manager wasn't available. We then had the issue of our stay during the night of the hurricane. We were due to check out on the 8th October but ended up having to stay an extra night due to our flight being cancelled because of the hurricane. I know when I booked the hotel that the rate was $77 a night plus taxes. Now when I had to add on an extra night, the guy at reception informed me that the price was now $199 a night. I commented about it being steep and his reply was this is where they make money because they know people have no choice but to stay. I think it's absolutely ridiculous that your prices more than doubled, at a time where people were in serious need of shelter, more so because I had been a resident for the previous 12 nights. My partner is an employee of the Marriott and when I asked about using her associate ID I was told that they wouldn't accept it on that night because there was too much demand. This of course was a big disappointment to the end of our holiday and definitely not what we expected from a Marriott hotel. We tried to contact the manager again when we left the hotel and again we had no luck. So as soon as we got home we emailed Lul Abdullahi, the assistant manager, and my email has been completely ignored. Absolutely shocking service and I will definitely not be returning!!!
I stayed here for a convention. I expected Marriott quality and service but did not get that. When I returned from a full day at a convention I returned to a room that had not been touched. I called the front desk and was informed that my "do not disturb" sign had to be off my door by 8:00 am. How was I supposed to know this???? I was in my room working and on conference calls till 10:00 am so I did have the do not disturb sign on my door. But when I left my room the room cleaning cart was in the room next to mine - so would seem logical they would come to my room next? Not so much. Guess this hotel has a code that they don't inform their guests about. Apparently you cannot have a do not disturb sign on your door after 8:00 am. Next, my TV did not work once I got back to my room at 10:00 pm. Dish Network kept going off the air even though it had been a perfectly clear day with no storms or rain at all - day or night. Lousy technical service by Marriott. When I called the front desk to find out what the problem was I got a belligerent front desk staff person that was very argumentative and dismissive of me as a guest. Doubt I will stay here again. While property is ok, I expect a lot more from Marriott in terms of service and courtesy. Get your act together.
