Love the Retro Theme

We live in Florida and were just coming for a night to go to Universal. This hotel was decently priced, especially since they upgraded up to a suite with a pull-out sofa and a mini kitchen. The only disappointing aspect was the Bayliner Diner for breakfast. While I did appreciate the made-to-order omelettes (with egg whites!), the kids meals were awful (specifically the french toast and chocolate chip pancakes). The coffee wasn't great either but they have a Starbucks so that made up for it. We spent half a day in the pool which has a great slide. The kids (ages 5 & 7) loved it! They also have a small splash area for little ones. With their onsite shuttle it took maybe 5 minutes to get to the parks/City Walk. It is a large resort so be prepared to walk a lot.

Grand vacation with grand

We made reservation in the family suite for two adults and four kids, age range six to nine. We arrived a little before 11am and was delighted to be given an upgrade and the room key. We were able to get a good start on the day and enjoy the extra large pool. We were there during a particularly rainy period, however there is a fun arcade, bowling and really large restaurant and carry out. They have a yogurt and Icee machine. There is regular transportation to the park or you can cross street and take the boat from Sapphire to the park. The room was comfortable, kids had their own section with tv and kitchen. The beds were comfortable and hotel was quiet. We liked the three part bathroom, which made life easier. The color coordination was pleasing to the eye. We are season pass holders and my husband and usually stay at the Portofino or Pacific, so that we get the express pass. The Cabana Bay provides early access to main Harry Potter which is just as good since they don't accept express passes on that particular ride. The kids got to ride several times before the crowds. All in all you can't do better for a fun time with a gaggle of kids. We will return.

Awesome Family vacation

We loved our stay at Cabana Bay. The experience was wonderful, with quick efficient transportation to the parks and an easy walk to Volcano Bay! So much to do! We very much enjoyed a night of bowling, but make sure you get reservations for peak times.

Excellent universal hotel at a great price

We loved our stay here. The retro design and features are great. Love the classic cars parked outside. The staff were excellent accommodating us with a late check out at no extra charge. The room was a decent size. The pool areas were great, with a slide and lazy river. Loved the fact you could walk to Volcano Bay in 5 minutes. Early park entry to Universal, IOA and Volcano Bay was brilliant. Buses run every 5-10 mins to Citywalk and universal/IOA. The bar was good and staff lovely. Would have loved a slightly more upmarket restaurant as there is a food court, pool bar, Starbucks and food in the Bowling alley. No nicer restaurant, but then you aren't far from Citywalk. Great price too. We were impressed. highly recommended for value, staff and facilities.

Travellers beware

This hotel must get a lot of cheating spouses. We have stayed in hotels all over the world and have yet to have such a bizzare experience. Our 6 month old was sleeping in my wife's arms in the car as it was close to midnight. There was a pretty long line wgich was surprising. The reservation clerk, Daniel claimed that he could not let me check in because the reservation was under my wife's name who shares the same last name and address as me. When i asked for a manger to make an exception, because i didnt want to wake a sleeping mom and baby, Daniel , told me they dont have time to get managers for such trivial things, he claimed it was company policy. When confronted, Daniel refused to put this corporate policy to me in writing. Eventually, a manager Robert showed up and was equally unhelpful. There was no apparent concern about Daniel's bizzare statements. Robert advised that it was corporate policy that even armed with the reservation number and my wife's photo id, i couldnt check in for our family for 'security purposes' because some spouses might not want to have their spouses know they are at the hotel. So on our 17th wedding anniversary, I had to go wake my sleeping wife and child and drag them into the lobby ..for security purposes. Thanks Universal. If it wasnt so late we would have gone somewhere else. We wont be back until this idiotic policy is changed. I am surpirsed they didnt ask for DNA evidence to establish my was the person in her photo id, after you cant be too careful with security. This 'problem' could be solved with a unique pin with the reservation number. I guess that would be too easy.Update on bedding, we decided to stay here because of the great bed reviews. I cant speak to rest of the beds but ours were budget beautyrests that well worn and not terribly comfortable, more like a disney pop century than a ritz. Both beds sagged in the center with a discernable u shaped cross section.
