Walt Disney World Dolphin Resort
- What's Included
LOVED this hotel. Great pools, great staff, great lobby, great location, great restaurants, great rooms. What more could I ask for? Only stayed for 3 nights. You can walk to EPCOT and Disney Studios or take the boat to both locations. It is a bus ride to Animal Kingdom or Magic Kingdom. Only downside is if you have an early morning breakfast reservation at Magic Kingdom there was no bus so we had to cab it. Just an FYI the cabs drop you off at Ticket and Transportation center so you may want to cab it to one of the Magic Kingdom hotels. I have been to Disney MANY times and have stayed at many of the resorts - Grand Floridian, Beach Club, Boardwalk, Contemporary, Wilderness Lodge, Disney Institute, Wilderness Campground, and Port Orleans. This was the best place I have stayed and will definitely stay here again. My kids are now teens and this was perfect for us. Great stay!
We stayed here for daughter’s birthday weekend and had a great time! It was actually much better than I expected based on the reviews I read before we came. Lizzie, who checked us in at the front desk set the tone for a wonderful stay! She was so welcoming and friendly! She gave us coupons for free ice cream cones for my daughters and 2 free drink coupons for my husband and me. She gave my daughter a birthday pin to wear and even upgraded us to a room with a nice view! What a nice surprise and nice way to start a vacation! The room was much better than I expected and had plenty of mirrors and places to put toiletries, etc. Lots of places to charge phones and even Netflix availability on the TV. There was a mini fridge with plenty of room for water and snacks and a nice little single cup coffee maker with Starbucks coffee pods and some herbal and earl grey tea bags. The beds were comfortable and the shower and toilet are separate from the sink which makes sharing a bathroom with several people much easier. We loved the coffee shop, Fuel, in the lobby for quick coffees and pasty before heading out to Epcot. The walk to Epcot from the resort is about 15 minutes. It’s an easy and enjoyable walk on the boardwalk with lots of restaurants, ice cream shops and even night clubs along the way. The back entrance you get to use to get into Epcot is so much easier and less crowded than the front entrance. We will definitely be back to this hotel next time we want to visit Disney!
The Dolphin is a nice hotel in a great location. The rooms and grounds are nice, and the restaurants and Disney transportation service quite nice. A quick water taxi to Epcot, the Boardwalk, or the Yacht and Beach Club, with bus service to all of the major parks. But the service ... At check-in, we were greeted nicely. Being an SPG (Starwoods Preferred Guest) for so many years, a 'thank you for your loyalty' would have been a nice added touch. And similar to another review, we returned home from the parks to find that our room hadn't been cleaned - 3 days in a row. The first day (late afternoon) when our room hadn't been cleaned, we popped back out for dinner and came back to a clean room. The following two days, we returned to our room around 6pm, and our room still wasn't cleaned. Simply too exhausted (and at this point not feeling well), we called for clean towels and more coffee. The woman I spoke to apologized, assured me she would add some Starwood points to my account (I received very few, considering the situation), and she sent someone up with towels. Day 2, they emptied our overflowing trash and left more water. We resorted to drinking our coffee out of glasses, as we forgot to ask for more paper cups. Our room situation, coupled with having difficulty finding a clean table to sit at in the lobby area on many occasions, left me feeling that they are simply understaffed. After returning home, I received my final receipt via email only to find I was charged $100 for self-parking, when we didn't even have a car. I'm assuming our exit out of the parking lot with the Lyft driver triggered the charge (when I had to offer up our room number). I called and spoke with someone, haven't received a call back yet, and see an ADDITIONAL $100 pending charge on my credit card. I trust it will all work out.Overall, an average rating. Nice hotel, nice location, nice people, great transportation to the parks. I'd consider giving them another try.
My objective was to spend 3 days in the Disneyworld Orlando staying in a SPG resort with my family. Therefore location of hotel & transportation to hop between the different Disney attractions are very important. Overall, I must say the entire trip & stay were good. Location is pretty convenient, both public buses & ferries are easily accessible.. & they are all free of charge. Hotel surroundings are nice, pleasant & clean... Room is ok & neat but small. Views from my room was reasonably good - view of the lakeside. Plus, there is a Disneyworld counter at the hotel lobby, where we were able to get our entry passes & brief explanation of the different parks & tips of getting around conveniently. On my second day, we returned our rooms at around 5pm, surprised to see that both the rooms were not cleaned yet at that hour. While taking a short nap, the cleaner came to our room offered to clean but I requested to come back after an hour later. When we returned to our room at ~10pm ish, tired,... even more surprised to see that nothing was touched or cleaned. A plastic bag stuffed with the bottled water, shampoo, shower bath, towels were all just left on the table top. As a Platinum member (Ambassador level), I was a little disappointing. I was actually expecting better services than this... at least, removed all the used towels, removed all the trashes, maybe a quick makeup of the room a little. Well, this is a reputable hotel, rated for 4/5-Star, certainly have to be much better than this.
The good: good location for EPCOT and DHS. Beautifully and recently renovated. Comfortable bedding. Good pool facilities. You can use SPG points to stay on property for a fraction of the cost. The less-than-good: resort and parking fees grow by the year and take away some of the SPG point advantage. Very crowded during big conventions, though it handles the crowds better than the Swan. Too few elevators (long waits). Though many people complain about how big Disney hotels can be (and what they usually mean is how far you must walk from the bus to your room), the Dolphin takes that to another level. Very long (and uninteresting) hallways. This is Vegas-casino big.Overall: good value for a modern, "new", on-property resort. Would recommend.
