Westgate Lakes Resort & Spa

OverviewLakefront Villa Complex situated 1 mile from Sea World & 2 miles from Universal Studios.
We are often in Orlando for the weekend. We’ve stayed in many hotels in and around Disney property and have found that most 4-star hotels and time shares are a good value for what you get. I’m sorry to say, when comparing this one to the other 4- stars in the same area, this one was not even close to a 4-star property. When we checked in we were told we would have a lake view, which it was if you stood all the way against the wall and peered around the corner. The room itself, what they call on their website a “studio villa” is a little larger than a hotel room with an extremely small kitchenette. The pictures on their website look NOTHING like the room we stayed in. Don’t use any of the dishes or glasses provided without a good washing in scalding water and soap. Ours were disgusting. There was dust, fingerprints, lip prints, and huge pieces of I don’t know what on the glasses. The sheets are no longer white but were dingy and stained. Everything in the room is old and dingy and stained, including the huge mirror that takes up the wall behind the bed. Ugh, really? The bathroom does have a large jacuzzi tub, but we had to go to the store to get stuff for me to clean it before I would let my kids bathe in it because of the hair and dirt in it. And, when we finally were able to use the tub, there was absolutely no cold water pressure from the faucet, so we had to either fill it up with hot water and let it sit until it cooled off before the kids got in, or add cold water from the sink using our water bottles. Ridiculous. The walk in shower is a nice size, but when the person above us took a shower, water would drip down through the recess light in our shower. Ummm… that can’t be safe. The complimentary bottles of shampoo, conditioner, and body lotion were a nice touch… too bad the body lotion was half full and the shampoo was empty. Scuff marks on the walls throughout the room and stains on the walls in the bathroom. Oh, and there was a plunger next to the toilet. How many hotel/time shares have you been in where there is a plunger by the toilet. And more importantly, why would there need to be a plunger there? If none of that bothers you, there are some pros. There was a nice big screened porch attached to the room, unfortunately it was cold and we didn’t even go out on to it so I can’t describe it or if it was clean. The property is in a very convenient area. Easy to get to and right around the corner from the restaurants on International Drive. There is a Wal-Mart and Whole Foods less than five minutes away. The property is very big with lots to do including a market place, pizza restaurant, and a bar and grill. They do hit you with a time share pitch going in and out of check in… if you’re not interested, just say no thanks and they’ll leave you alone. I had high hopes for this property, but we won’t be staying here again.
Similarly to other comments, we have been massively mislead into thinking this organisation can provide luxury holidays. We attended a time share seminar in 2002 and have since been forking out at least $1500 in maintenance fees every other year despite only visiting twice. That amounts to $13,500 not including inflation, interest etc. This also excludes the original buying cost of the property $20k approx. We have been trying to sell it ever since, and for fear of risking legalities and breaching of contract, we have remained above board. We have tried to sell the deed back but this is only an option if in a "special circumstance" and will again cost near enough $1000. Now hearing from realtors in the US that the property is worth a dollar or less!! DO NOT TOUCH WESTGATE RESORTS WITH A BARGE POLL. THEY ARE DISHONEST PEOPLE AND HAVE NO INTEGRITY. Their purpose is to rinse you of all your worth while telling you it's an investment for your children's future. All you will be doing is handing over your debt! I hope this can save you from the undue stress and anxiety it has brought me and my family..
There were over 10 of us here from my company for a MAJOR trade show. Three of us arrived well after midnight and waited in line for over 30 minutes to be checked into our rooms. Desk clerk was so incompetent that none of the hotel features or special programs for KBIS were given to me nor the map others were given. My room had not been updated since the place was built in 1982: fluorescent lights; no place to plug my phone or any other electronics. The white bed linens looked tired and less than clean. The AQUA throw looked dated like it had been worn out 10 years ago. There was a terrible stain on the carpet between the beds; I don't want to even think what that was; there were black droppings behind the toilet. The puddle of soap sludge in the shower remained the entire time I was there so obviously nobody cleaned that. Soap supplies were never replaced. When I went to make a fresh pot of coffee, I found a used pod of coffee left in the coffee maker. I dropped a pen on the floor and happened to look under the beds to find all kinds of junk and debris left by previous guests underneath. No bath towels were left out; I was left to try and figure out where THEY were hiding. On 2 of the days no new towels were left. One one day I found one of the sneakers from my suitcase oddly in the middle of my room...was the staff going through my bag? Or did they move my bag and it fall out? I don't even want to figure that one out. The room had a terrible odor in it. And come time to check out, it again took about 20 minutes for a not-so-big line to get through and nobody even dared to ask how my stay was...so I was not ever really given much of a chance to share any of this with staff. And do you think I was about to raise issues with management if it already looked as if someone had gone through my stuff? This place is apparently owned by DAVID SIEGEL who is the king of timeshares in Orlando. Anyone stupid enough to stay here or worse...buy one of this guy's time shares is not very smart.
Stayed at this resort for grandsons 3rd Birthday. Booked through Interval International. Good value for my points. Interval sent us to part of the resort that was closed for our check in. The check in area was extremely busy and a bit confusing for parking. Check in was easy and fast. Our two bedroom with an additional one bedroom lock off was very large and extremely comfortable. King beds in two rooms and two double beds in third with room to spare. The floors were dirty and the area under the couch and love seat had not been cleaned in a very long while. Only negative. The three pools we used where all heated. Common areas all very clean with plenty of staff around. As we where not member/owners some activities had a cost for us. No resort fees. Would recommend and go back. Enjoy!
Came to Orlando for a for a conference and wanted to avoid the expense hotel fees. This was a great affordable option, has a nice pool, rooms are clean, beds are comfy. Only one complaint is he internet is slow but they have a decent bus center with faster internet.
