Dolphin Beach Resort
- What's Included
This hotel is great for the location and how the quaint pool area is just steps from the beach. The rooms are outdated but clean. There is a fun tiki bar right on site with Live music on weekends. No outdoor bathrooms though so try to get a room close to the bar/ pool area. The lobby bathrooms were kept clean and stocked so that's an option too.Amanda at Flipper's beach bar is an excellent server & so friendly. We booked a standard room online but found out later there's a coupon book that offers a $99 rate for Sun-Thurs night stays. Wish we had known that when we booked! The hotel isn't busy mid week but gets very busy on weekends.
I feel enthusiasm is contagious. I always arrive to a hotel excited, positive and friendly. I find it sets the tone for the rest of my stay. Check in staff was pleasant and welcoming. The hotel was dated but in the midst of updating so i'm sure it will be lovely upon completion. Our room had not been upgraded but it was spacious, clean and comfortable. We had a balcony over looking the pool with a view of the ocean. This was one of my favorite perches during my stay. If you like the shade choose the rooms to the left as you look out on to the pool from the check in area. This location also kept the room cool. The pool was amazing, salt water, warm and clean. There was no hot tub. Coming from a cold climate I thoroughly enjoy the pool at night and there was rarely ever anyone else there. Meals were generous in size, delicious and fairly priced. The portions were large enough to enjoy half and the other half the next day. We had a fridge, coffee maker, micorowave, counter, shelving and more than ample storage for clothing with two closets and two dressers. There was a small dining table which we used for some work and meals. Each morning I awoke to the sound of a leaf blower. I am not complaining because I have never seen such a clean pool area and grounds in general. They worked hard and quickly and waited until 9:00 am before turning on the leaf/sand blower. There was plenty of parking and many entrances close to each wing of the hotel and at no charge. There was a washer and dryer on each floor which was a bonus. I did laundry mid way through and on the day prior to check out. Fresh laundry on the way home is a rare treat! We had the Christmas Day Buffett. The price was great, selection impressive and everything was delicious. We opted for mimosas and our server was quick to help us save money by suggesting we order a bottle of champagne and and she would keep the orange and pineapple juice coming. We opted to eat outside over looking the pool and for a time had the place to ourselves. Everyone else opted for the AC in the dining room. Our room attendant was amazing. She was friendly and we got to know each other quite well. She was very hard working and always made sure we had lots of coffee and extra towels. The hotel was right on St. Pete Beach. The sand was so fine and the beach never too crowded. Twice we reserved a shaded double lounger (20.00 USD for the entire day) on the beach at it was definitely worth it. The water was clear and shallow along way out. Overall the hotel wasn't too crowded, the price was reasonable for accommodations and food. The service was great and the proximity to liquor, pharmacy and grocery stores could not be better. A good option for families as well as couples.
I've now waited 20 mins for a server to acknowledge me for breakfast. She's waited on others but ignored me. That's the half of it. The front desk folks don't smile or are pleasant at all. The inside dining room is very dated and the service is questionable there too. The room has an outdated bath area, very nice. The rest of the room is dated. Carpet was dirty when we arrived and furniture was also dated. 1980's maybe. Bed was clean and nicely made. One electric outlet for phone chargers, etc.I will not be back. Not worth the money. So many nicer choices on the beach for same price.
our room had recently been remodeled and was very clean with modern drapes and furnishings. Very nice resort. Had a huge balcony and room. beautiful sunsets. Front desk staff was not very friendly at check in and other times when questions asked. Seems everyone working in Florida are from the north and don't have that southern charm we are used to. Restaurant staff was friendly and the food good. We ate breakfast there twice. the a/c was turned off and we were too hot in the room the first night but got the guy to turn it on the second day. The towels and washcloths should be a lot softer.
I stayed for four days at the Dolphin Beach Resort and was overwhelmed by the warmth of the staff. I was welcomed to my lovely room above the pool with a balcony. The view of the beach and the sunsets were stunning! This is a home away from home with all the ammenities you could ask for. With shopping just across the street it is easy to set up your home away from home. The restaurants are great for any meal and the Flippers Bar perfect for a tropical drink or bite to eat at sunset. A trip to Paradise is what you will find at the Dolphin.
