Selfishly I like it when people post bad reviews about this hotel because it is my favorite hotel on my favorite beach and maybe it will be less busy if less people know how amazing it truly is. But then again I want for everyone to know how absolutely wonderful The Grand Plaza is so here is my review. We stayed at Grand Plaza September 25 to 27 My husband and my 3 kids ages 5,6, and 8. The 6 year old is in a wheel chair. We had an Ocean View double bed room. The room was beautiful and the view was amazing! The staff are so friendly and patient. ( WE require a lot of patience with our crew) The beach is beautiful and has many activities going on. I did not experience spinners restaurant. But we did take turns visiting Bongos Bar. The pool is perfect. I was able to walk to The grocery store a drug store and several boutiques. An Ihop is within walking distance also. The Bongos food and drinks are great and they serve food until very late.. I cant complain about anything!! Housekeeping was on point. The beds were comfortable. And each and every day since I left I have wished I was there.
Found this best kept secret Grand Plaza hotel resort online searching for oceanfront and boy was it not only oceanfront , our room had the best views of the city lights and the water! We didn't mind the outdated tile flooring in fact we found it to be more allergy free than the typical carpet floor. Having the balcony looking out was a big plus since half of the time it was cloudy skies but the views were still panoramic and magnificent. We were impressed with the first call of inquiry upon calling the hotel reservation line. Spoke to Tami who stated in detail what the hotel is like including the Spinner restaurant on the top floor - 10th! And our room was on the 9th! Thanks to the gal in the front - Quantelle Wow did we get lucky. We're both worldwide travelers and we're so pleased that a view to a kill like this is just within under an hour away from home. The spinners resturant was beyond compare with the views. Service from the maitre'd d to the manager and waitress Evelyn was impressive. And yes !!! This restaurant is only 1 of 18 in the country that actually revolves and thanks to Evelyn she informed us it takes about an hour for a whole revolution. So we started dinner before the sunset and had our dessert right where we started. Yahoo! We findYeyyy we found a gem in st pete! A definite must come back and this time it will be at least 3-4 days !!!! I give it a 5star!
We booked a night stay to spend the day on the beach for my wife's birthday and we were truly impressed with the service we received. The Hotel Personnel (Tammy) & Manager, Claudia provided us with outstanding service, upgrading us to one of the penthouse suites <3 as a birthday gift for my wife. The Penthouse suite had a breathe taking Ocean View. Suite was very clean and room service personnel made themselves available at all times to provide us with what we needed through out our stay as well as the front lobby personnel. We will definitely be returning for future stays.
To say i was a little worried about staying here after reading some of the reviews is an understatement however i need not have worried. I loved this hotel. We were allocated a room with a side ocean view on floor 5, i had e mailed and requested to be on the other side of the kitchen on a mid floor as advised by a review on here as the kitchen side was noisy and we got exactly what we had asked for. We arrived on Memorial day so was quite busy but we got parked no problem and a lovely guy came and helped us with our luggage and took it up to the room for us.We got checked in quickly with no problems by a very friendly lady. The hotel reception area is very nice and has the feeling of a luxurious hotel. Our room was nice and spacious, had 1 king bed and a double bed, built in wardrobe and draws, a tv, desk and chair, a fridge and microwave and a safe. The room was very nicely decorated, clean and comfortable. We had a nice sized balcony with a table and 2 chairs and a spectacular view of the gulf of mexico and st petes beach. The bathroom was ample with a over bath shower. The aircon was very good but quite noisy so ear plugs came in handy. Also blows hot air out onto the balcony so on an evening could get quite warm while sitting on the balcony. We ate 2 out of the 4 mornings at the hotle restaurant and chose the buffet breakfast, lots of choice and was really nice. For 2 adults and 2 children came to $55 inc tip, so a little on the high side for breakfast but was convenient and was good food.We ate at Bongos, table on the beach 4 out of the 5 nights we stayed, food was amazing. Can highly recommend the Nacho sharing starter. The average bill for 2 adults and 2 children worked out $85 plus tip. All of the food we had was amazing, no complaints at all and the service was fantastic. We did not eat at the spinners restaurant but went up and had a look and went to the top floor for a look too. Looked very nice but not a great choice for children so stuck to Bongos. Fabulous views though. The pool is quite small but perfectly ample, the kids enjoyed being in there in the giant rubber rings while myself and my husband sat with a nice cold beer watching them. Pool/beach towels are free, you needed to use your room key card and go to the self service machine to get them and return them, if they aren't returned then you will be billed $25 at the end of your stay. so just make sure you return your towels. You can hire cabanas on the beach but at a premium so we bought a parasol for $20 and just sat on our towels, the kids were playing and building sand castles anyway. All in all i would come back and stay here, perfect location for beach and is clean and comfortable. Please do not listen to the bad reviews, i'm not quite sure what the problem is.
The price and reviews are what steered me to book this hotel for a four day trip with the kids. When we arrived, they upgraded us to the top floor suite and we were thrilled. Until we settled in... 1980's decor can be overlooked, but the beds were tough, shower handles loose and difficult to work. Kitchenette very outdated and worn. No plates, pots or silverware to utilize the amenities of the suite. The kids loved it, but we knew it was touchy. The resort is hanging on but the beach is exquisite. We enjoyed the pool and beach every day. We dined out at night and enjoyed the area. Housekeeping was trying to keep up with demand so we can't fault them for not getting rooms done timely.
