Overall, our stay at the Grand Plaza was OK, nothing more. The hotel's location is great, right on the beach. Had lunch at the Spinners restaurant, very friendly service, fabulous view. Highly recommended! My average rating comes from the expectations set in consideration of the price paid. At $350+ USD per night, I expected much more. The room's furnishings were very modest at best. Parking and Wi-Fi were included. Excluded were the extra cot, late check-out @ $35 per hour (check-out is @ 11:00), beach chairs, umbrellas etc. The pool was very small and there were not enough chairs. A keycard was required to pick-up fresh towels and also to drop-off dirty ones. Just no sense of being in a high-end hotel but rather in an establishment that counts every dollar. Overall, not a bad place at all but just not worth the expense.
Very friendly check in service. Rooms are in good state and clean. Direct access to St. Pete Beach. Nice bar with food and live music. Breakfast buffet was good but they might provide some more fruits and fresh vegetables.
Overall our stay at the Grand Plaza Beachfront was good. However there are some points that you may want to consider.Firstly the room. Generous size considering there is a large king and double bed in the room. Air Con - the unit is floor mounted and the the double bed is only 2-3 ft from it and so our child complained all the time that they were freezing as they were getting hit with the cold air whilst it was on. We had to use the bolster cushions to create a 'barrier' to deflect the air. Why does it not have a moveable vent to force the air straight upwards or why is it not installed much higher? The ceiling fan did not work and despite mentioning this to housekeeping it was not fixed whilst we were there. The bathroom is odd in that it has a much lower ceiling as I assume it houses quite a bit of pipework? Where the sink is positioned right up against the wall it is almost impossible for an adult to stand straight in front of it as there is a towel rail right behind you. There was a table that would easily have seated 4 people yet only 2 chairs are provided. I did ask prior to arriving for a 3rd chair to be put in there but was advised it would be too tight a squeeze and to use a chair from the balcony as and when needed. The balcony chairs are way too low to use with the table and there was plenty of room for another chair to be added - if you know you have 3 or 4 people staying in one room please provide seating for them to all be able to use table. We had a partial beach view which was good from a view perspective, but it was right above the venting for the kitchens and even though we were 3-4 floors above them they were incredibly noisy if you wanted to leave your balcony door open and also had to deal with the noise/music from the beachfront restaurant, so I would suggest asking for a room on the other side of the hotel. Breakfast - had a good selection although I really would have appreciated something other than melon and pineapple as the 'fruit' option each day. Surely there are other fruits you can add to the fruit salad mix? Also could you not offer other drinks within the buffet option? I had a latte one morning (not realising I would be charged $4.95 as this was not within the buffet option) - it was absolutely not a latte, it was some weird coffee tasting watery drink with no frothed milk and in such a small glass as well - AVOID! Restaurants - during our stay we used the beach front, Spinners and room service. The beach front is great but when the wind is blustery it can prove 'entertaining'. Maybe some investment into windbreaks should be looked into? The spinning restaurant was also good. All the food was well cooked and good portions, but, could you please offer some vegetables as an option? Why is it always fries, tortilla chips, coleslaw or potato salad?? None of which are particularly healthy so we ended up having to pay extra for sides of vegetables with each meal (you might want to tell them to hold the butter as our first ones were swimming in it). This was of particular issue to our child who doesn't like fries or melon - so as the kids meals only offer fries or fruit salad (which was always only melon - not exactly a fruit salad) they were only eating the main item and left hungry. Also in the kids meals could you offer a more healthly main? Maybe some chicken and fish options that don't include batter/crispy coating?Staff - all the staff we dealt with were polite and helpful and at the end of the day that is what helps make a stay enjoyable - so thankyou to all the staff!
The Grand Plaza is a fantastic hotel. Bongo's Beach Bar and Grill, Level 11 Roof Top Lounge, Spinners revolving restaurant and the Palm are all great. The staff is friendly and attentive. We've been here a few times and have never been disappointed. The rooms are quiet. We will definitely stay at the Grand Plaza again.
Service at the front desk was great, actually at all the restaurants service was awesome. Very friendly staff accommodating. The room cleaning was not great, we had to ask for towels the first night, and they did bring them the 2nd night but left everything on the bed. Hotel is older, but updates are happening, fixtures in the room are updated.. nice furniture, very comfy bed. Balcony is great, plastic furniture can go and I suspect they are replacing as they go.. Its a work in progress but huge potential.. very cool place. Guests are really the problem,LOL being right on the beach, guests need to be courteous and clean off their feet and make sure the children clean off the sand as well BEFORE entering the hotel. staff was cleaning the lobby area non stop. Great place we will go there again and recommend it.. Big wedding destination, they do a good job there as well never an inconvenience.. go there... enjoy its right on the beach.. Staff watches the parking lot. all around very good place never have to leave..
