Holiday Inn and Suites Harbourside
- What's Included
We stayed in this facility attending a baseball game at Spectrum Field in Clearwater. When we arrived we were told the (1) elevator was located in the center of the facility. It is a large facility and the (1) elevator is extremely slow. If your room is located to the elevator you are a lucky one, however, most rooms require you to walk a long distance carting your luggage as you go. Our room was a king suite with kitchenette. Unfortunately the windows have wooden horizontal blinds that are not covered with any type of curtain. Therefore, the bright lights lights that illuminate the outside hallways shine into the room. If you prefer darkness when sleeping avoid this hotel like the plague. We also found the facility extremely noisy. For most of the night and early morning it sounded as if furniture was constantly being dragged across a tile floor. We ate dinner in the restaurant and found the prices were high and the food quality poor. We also ate breakfast their the next morning and I did not receive what I ordered. Because the service was so slow and we were on a time limit I decided not to send it back but made do with what I was served. All in all we were very disappointed and would not recommend this facility under any circumstances.
We had a great suite at this hotel; the only way it could have been better is if we had faced the water. The full kitchen was a plus because we were able to eat breakfast at our leisure and bring home fresh seafood from the local fish fish market to cook for lunch. The staff was helpful and provided us with some extra pans, The location was within walking distance of the beach and Jimmy Guana's restaurant on-site had much better food than most hotel restaurants offer, plus bands on the weekend. It even had an indoor miniature golf course. This would be a great place for a large group with kids. It was a little chilly to use the outdoor pools, but there were two. A water park was being built next door.
The pool connected to the holiday inn deck is NOT part of your stay ! It is part of a different company, and a $25.00 charge per person will be incurred! This would be fine if advertised to inn guests, but it is NOT! Signage at holiday says "FallsPool" with arrow, signage at gate to pool is silent on different company and charge. This deception is not communicated anywhere in the inns printed information! When asked the management about this, it was my fault for not knowing ! Really ? Just wanted to sit by the pool, not use tubes, not use the pool, water slides, etc. Nope , $25.00. BEWARE! Especially if you have children.
Hotel is located close to Beach in St Petersburg Florida. Upon arrival, it appears to be a great location. We checked into a room with a water view (not the gulf, but the other side of St Petes). We checked in at night and couldn't see the lay of the land. We were told to park in the parking garage, but soon realized there were no spaces available. I wasn't sure where else to park. They did not inform us that there was a large surface lot in addition to the parking garage. NBD. I'll chalk that up to a long day of travel. I had requested a rollaway bed, because 2 queen' s and a sofa pull out was tight for my family of 6. I have 3 boys, all over 6 feet tall. I was informed that roll aways were not permitted in the suite. I'm not sure if it's a fire code, but there was plenty of room to place the roll away. Upon entering the room, we had to wrestle with the door. It was clearly out of alignment, and we needed to lead with our shoulder to enter it. It was so uneven, sunshine poored through the corners in the morning. As pullout sofas go, this one was the most uncomfortable ever, but the two queen beds were very comfortable. The wooden blinds could not keep the sunlight out in the early morning, and one was in disrepair. Since we were heading out on the first day, I left a note and $10 for housekeeping requesting 6 towels, extra shampoo/conditioner, and a change of sheets for the sofa pull out. The set that was on there was torn and stained. Ewww. The seat cushions to the sofa were pretty stained also. When I returned, the $10 was gone. Only received 5 towels. Bedding was not changed and no extra shampoo/conditioner. Room had a constant banging in the bathroom. I think it might have been from the parking garage below, but I could not be sure. The walls were also paper thin, so when the people in the room behind us woke up, so did we. Complimentary coffee is available at the restaurant on site. 2 of the 3 mornings I tried for coffee, the pots were empty. I waited for 10 minutes one day, but the restaurant was so understaffed that nobody saw me. I went back to the room and was going to attempt to use the Keurig, but the unsanitary conditions made me think twice. Room had 2 thermostats. Both appeared to be low on battteries because the numbers would fade and even disappear. Ceiling fan in bedroom swayed back and forth and would make hammering noise from time to time. Bathroom was dated, plaster missing from stained ceiling. Towels for the pool/gym are about the size I use to dry dishes. Pool area was nice. Surrounded by a bar that looked like fun, but I didn't see it open because we had activities off site. There is mini golf and water park, but we did not use. There is a wooden walkway around the entire hotel, overlooking the water. It's a great place to sit out in the morning and have a coffee...until you realize that others think it's a great place to walk around and have a smoke! If the rooms are no smoking, shouldn't the walkways in front of them be? I believe smoking is permitted throughout the grounds, and I smelled smoke whenever we were outside. To sum it up, this is a nice location at a decent price. The property appears to be in really good shape, but the living space left a lot of room for improvement.
My wife and I spent one night at this property recently. We had never stayed there before. We enjoyed our stay. The place is on the intracoastal waterway. It is only a few blocks from the beach so it was quick and easy to go to the beach. The beach was not too crowded and was very nice to walk up and down. It is a shallow sloping beach so walking is very comfortable. The hotel is over 30 years old but it has been maintained pretty well. It could use some refreshing but we found our room to be large, comfortable and clean. We slept very good. We would return. It has a good restaurant on the property and it is close to others.
