I booked this hotel for two nights, using points from the brand loyalty scheme, of which I have status. Just so you know.Anyway, I thought the hotel was lovely and in a great location.It’s not actually in Clearwater, but Indian Rocks beach, just ten minutes to the south. This means it is much quieter, great in my books. And a 5 minute max walk to the actual beach, which was lovely.So check-in was quick and easy, and I was immediately recognised as a loyal customer, and offered a room upgrade which was very welcome. We were also able to check in early.The room itself was perhaps a little dated (especially the kitchen appliances), but having a living room with kitchen, and a separate bedroom was great, having two young children. We were also able to cook some frozen pizzas rather than eat out all the time, ideal during a two week holiday in Florida and after a hectic stay in Kissimmee. And have a simple breakfast in our room, complete with full size fridge, coffee maker and of course, free wi-fi.Comfy beds, clean room, great air con, and lovely food in Jimmy Guannas too, we loved this hotel and the area so much, we actually paid for and stayed for a third night ! And would gladly return again.All the staff were friendly and helpful, especially Charles and the lovely young girl form New Jersey, I forget her name. We had no complaints or issues throughout our stay and can thoroughly recommend it.5/5
Our suite was spacious and clean. Love having a full-service kitchen. The fridge had a built in icemaker which is always nice when our family travels together. The pull-out sofa and beds were very comfortable. Our suite faced the intercoastal waterway and we enjoyed the view in chairs on a common deck area outside our room – very relaxing.This resort is not directly on the beach, but beach access is only a couple blocks away. There are several dining options on property and even more within walking distance. We were visiting family on this trip, so we spent a lot of our time off site. However, we were impressed with the hotel and we will place it on our list of places to return.
Hotel is as close to the ocean as you can be without being directly on the beach (2 blocks away). Hotel is harborside. Was pleased to see it had a full kitchen but not much came with it. Came in to a kitchen where trash hadn't been taken out. As a timeshare owner I'm used to kitchen being fully stocked. No paper towels, not enough dinnerware for amount of guests, no sponge to wash dishes, no cups, burner on stove didn't work, fridge door had no shelve baskets so they were useless. Unit was very dated and had alot of unnecessary space. Carpet was dirty and pullout mattress was paper thin. The hotel could be so much better with a little care and updates. Not sure if I'd stay again although the location was nice. Staff seemed to get tired of our requests and never brought 2 more plates (only 2 in room for a suite for 4 guests).
We returned here for the first time in quite a while-nothing against the hotel; we just went elsewhere in the world. We booked using our free Chase IHG credit card annual award which was about to expire so thus the decision to use it here and not in Paris or somewhere similar as we usually do! Since it was the free night, we could only book the standard room or similar. After booking, we were upgraded to a Studio 1 King Bed Nonsmoking due to the Platinum status of my husband. I have Spire status so we usually use my name to book at IHG properties, but once a year, we use his free night so his name! Since it was this type of reservation, we could not add the prepaid breakfast for $9.80 for 2 adults. (also when using Senior rate, the prepaid breakfast cannot be booked, but that is with all IHG properties and not only with this location). We arrived early, just after noon and were greeted by Ayr, according to the lady who checked us out the next day when I asked his name since he was also there then but helping others. He quickly informed me that no rooms were ready since the hotel was fairly full. I asked for an guesstimate since we had Platinum status for this reservation and also mentioned my Spire status. He snapped back that check-in time was not until 4 pm and said he would text us if something became available. He was very robotic like so many his age today and needs more customer service training, especially how to treat those with IHG status. Just after 2, I went on-line and saw that the reservation had been changed from a King to 2 Queens so I assumed, even though no text had been received, that the room must be ready. When we walked into the office, I looked Ayr in the eye and asked if there were any updates and noted that the reservation had changed on-line. At this point, Charles jumped into the conversation, and when he realized that we were Platinum (and again I mentioned my Spire status), he said, of course, we have a room ready NOW! He said he would give us one of the King Loft Villas and apologized since it was not the Marina view (just a Sunset view, which is really a parking lot view with the buildings in between the hotel and the Gulf), but he made up for Ayr’s attitude earlier and the way it was heading on this return. This was the 3rd time in a row that we’ve been upgraded to one of these Sunset view loft rooms. They are nice, and I’ve attached several pictures. This one had a few issues, but I did not bring them to the attention of anyone so here they are. We were in Room 247. 1) The ceiling light in the main room would not come on-someone could have pulled the cord which was too high for us to check, but we tried everything-the fan worked fine. 2) the knobs on the tub were corroding and were peeling orange rust-may be time to update. 3) the shower floor was warped and water didn’t all drain-it accumulated by the door-the drain area appeared to be popped up! 4) one of the sofas had a nasty stain on one of the main cushions, and 5) very limited supply of plates and glasses. None of these caused us any lost sleep, and actually, the bed was very firm and comfortable. Both TV’s worked well and received ample channels to keep us entertained. In summary about the room, it was a pleasant surprise to be upgraded thanks to Charles…Ayr may have put us in the parking garage! Speaking of which, when we arrived, I asked if I needed a parking pass or anything and Ayr said no; we don't tow, but Charles gave us a parking pass to put on the dashboard 2 hours later when we did check-in. I would not have been happy if the car had been towed! While we were in limbo on our arrival, we checked out the property to see what was different since our last visit. We stopped by Jimmy Guana’s to see about breakfast the next morning. The menu in the window indicated that a 3 egg omelet with potatoes and bread was $9.50, a much better price than I would have expected at a Holiday Inn! I went in to verify and was told that we could have egg whites at no additional charge and as many ingredients as wished (this turned out to be incorrect since 3 was the limit without an additional charge), but this made our decision very easy. If we had to eat elsewhere, we would have checked out and then headed home, but since the prices were reasonable and about the same or better than many breakfast places with healthy options available on property, we could eat breakfast and then go back to the room to brush teeth, shower, dress, and relax a little before the drive back to Orlando. Breakfast was good omelet-wise, but service was not the best and there were too many children for me! I would definitely eat here again on check-out day before my drive home. I am giving an overall 5 only because of Charles and his actions. It could have been a 2 the way it started. We will return when we need another beach visit or have an expiring free night offer!
I accidentally stumbled upon this hotel while booking my flight and decided to book it. I am extremely surprised at how much we enjoyed it. The hotel is centrally located with great restaurants within walking distance (Crabby Bills, PJ's, Sylce, etc.) The onsite restaurant and bar are delicious and convenient. The beach is only a two minute walk and is beautiful and not too crowded. The hotel pool is also very enjoyable. Overall I had a wonderful stay and would highly recommend this location!
