Christmas at the bay

Stayed here over Christmas 2016. Very clean hotel with friendly staff. Nice tiki bar and a small Sandy beach on Tampa bay. Because the prevalent winds blow all kinds of trash off the bay in this direction, there is a slight odor. However, the hotel stall has a daily routine to keep the beach Sandy white. The restaurant is only average so be prepared to drive a few miles to good restaurants.

Spring Training

We have stayed here for each of the past 4 years on our annual Spring Training trip. Love the complex. The Tiki bar is fantastic. The food isn't too bad, you need to try the breakfast. Close to the highway. I Love it. Can't wait to do it again this spring. Rick Pittsburgh PA

Fantastic time

Group of 31 spent a few days and everyone loved it. Really fantastic time at the pool with all our friends. This place has 2 pools and a beach. Great time watching all the birds and dolphins in the water. Rooms could use updating with a micro wave, but everything was clean and worked.

We were not disappointed

After finding this hotel on trip advisor we booked our room through kayak. We found an excellent deal and thought it was worth taking the chance. I have learned to pretty well trust the reviews on trip advisor. However I was concerned because of the almost to good to be true price we found. I had even called the hotel to book through them and was told to go back to kayak. That they couldn't get close to matching that price because it was the Christmas holiday. When we arrived at the hotel we were pleasantly surprised. The grounds were well cared for. The front lobby was clean and check in was quick and exceptionally helpful and friendly. We were offered a choice between 1st floor and second floor. We chose 2nd floor to have a balcony however I recommend 1st floor to anyone staying here. You can eliminate the issue of stairs. The 1st floor rooms have patios and you are able to walk out to the gardens and water from your room. Also there are no elevators. So loading and unloading your car is easier to a 1st floor room. The room is your average hotel room. There is nothing fancy. The room was clean. It did have a slight odor when we first got there but opening the door to the balcony and running the air quickly remedy that issue. There is a small refrigerator. However there is no microwave. There was a small one cup coffee maker. House keeping was fantastic. We met some of the nicest, hardworking and helpful individuals. They went out of their way to assure we had everything we needed. We stayed through the Christmas holiday. Christmas morning we had a lot of wrapping paper and boxes. Our house keeper didn't wait for me to break down the boxes. She said no ma'am that is my job. I have to say that this lady had the most pleasant attitude and smile for someone working a holiday! My only complaints about the room were: the carpet around the bottom of the wall was loose beside the bed. Several times when I got up my foot got caught in it. One time I thought I'd broke my toe. When we told the front desk at check out they were quick to note it and management did respond that it was taken care of. The other one is small but it was a little irritating, I do not know what is used to clean the mirrors but they are incredibly streaked. I think they may want to change cleaning products. The website for the hotel says there is a small private beach. Now I have to say don't expect much. I was disappointed when it said beach and it was more like a sandbox.. however it is a pretty view and peaceful. Again we were here during Christmas and seeing the boats with Christmas lights and the Christmas lights around the hotel and surrounding areas was very pretty. We chose to go to the beach at Fort Desota beach. It was about a 20 minute drive through a .75 and .50 toll. But it was a nice beach and worth the drive. There are several beaches to choose from. Trip advisor was a great way to help find the best beaches. We ate at the hotel restaurant one night. We did carry out after a long day at the beach. They had the absolute best barbecue chicken wings!!! It was Christmas night and again the young man we dealt with had a wonderful attitude and was a pleasure to deal with. We will choose to stay at the Magnuson hotel again if we are in St. Petersburg. It is not a Hyatt but to me the people you meet who make sure you are treated with genuine friendliness and make sure your stay is pleasant is what matters. Our bed was comfortable. The room was clean. The pool was clean and warm. The weather was picture perfect! Thank you for a wonderful Christmas vacation.

Loud AC Unit, Small not Resort-like Room but the Other Buildings were Nice

Went for a New Years Party in the ballroom. The party was very nice and the food was really good. For the most part service was good during the party. One female bartender was EXTREMELY rude and walked away from a line of waiting people because someone made her mad. She just closed the bar (only one open in the lobby). She came back when people said they were going to report her. Which I did.Our room was very small and felt cramped. The AC kept cutting on and off and it was very loud. It also did not keep the room very cool. We had a room in a resort on the beach (ocean view) a few weeks before this event for the exact same price and the room was 100% better than this one. We did not try the restaurant or the inside bar which looked nice. Overall it was average and I felt over priced for what we experienced.
