A Hidden Jewel

It is a great little hidden getaway. They have two (2) lovely pools, an outdoor spa/hot tub, a dining room for breakfast or dinner and a snack bar for lunch. And, then a lovely little second story Tiki Bar which seems to be a popular local spot. The rooms are not plush, but we consider them more than adequate accommodations. We would suggest that they take mind to the cleanliness of the patio areas of each room and to the steps going up to the Tiki Bar. Needs to be cleaned daily. We have stayed twice and would certainly stay there again.

Fall at the Magnuson

This was our second Fall extended stay at Magnuson. The room was clean, the staff are friendly and the location is great. The heated pool is our favorite including the view. The restaurant and snack bar are both great to have right on location. The resort is also close to Publix, CVS, other eateries, 275 and Eckerd College where our daughter attends. The price is very reasonable for spending time in this tropical area. We will return.

Disappointed - Needs An Update

Our family had an event planned at the conference center so we decided to make it an overnight trip and stay at this location. We viewed the property's website before making reservation and needless to say, we were thoroughly disappointed. Outdated would be an understatement for this hotel and its furnishings. Upon immediate entry into our room, we were hit with the strong smell of mold and mildew. The carpeting looked as if it hadn't been cleaned in years Because we had a great view of Tampa Bay, we decided to open slide glass door. Bad idea! After a few minutes of struggling to open, we found a dirty patio with even dirtier resin patio furniture. The tiki bar on stilts (their description) was not appealing. I've seen better at the local neighborhood pub. After the event, we left to make the hour and half drive back south. Didn't even seek a refund. Maybe they'll use it to bring this hotel up to average standard. The positive that I walked away with: the catering staff was great and the registration staff was pleasant. The hotel is in a great location but I do implore the owner to renovate and update.

Has seen better days...MOTEL property from the 60's.

I would say this motel has not had an update for at least 20 yrs. It reminds me of something from the 60's. Not really sure it could even be updated for less than razing it and starting over. The property location is wonderful, if you just stay outside of the room, it's very nice. The rooms are tired, so tired, very tired! Furniture is old, furnishings are old, there was at least a 1/4 to 1/2" gap at our door. Seriously, there is no need for a peep hole, just look out the gap. The associates are very nice and helpful. The kitchen/catering staff are wonderful as well. There is just no helping the condition of this property. It needs to start over. AND THE PRICE!!! $145 PER NIGHT plus taxes and usual resort fees. OUTRAGEOUS. Our bill for one night came to $190 and we didn't purchase anything. At MOST, this place should charge about $70. Cannot find fault with any of the staff, it's just the motel is sad.

Better Room / Poorer Service Second Time Around

Went for a birthday party weekend. Our room this time was a very nice first floor room. The refrigerator would not cool so we called maintenance. Great guy reset the system which had gone into a hold cycle after Irma. Quick and helpful. He, the lady in the snack bar, and the bartenders/servers at the Tiki bar were the only good service we had. The Bartender in the main bar was horrible. He was a smart A and very rude, all under the guise of being "funny". He ordered two of the wrong meals for my friends and claimed they told him that was what they wanted. He actually argued with them when they both told him that they did not order what he tried to deliver. When we complained to the bar manager about him we were told she would look into it. Which never happened as he was there the rest of the weekend so we would not go to that bar. The food at our parties was good overall but they were running out of items Saturday night and not bussing the tables to keep them clear, so dirty china was everywhere........ The food at the snack grill was great, one of the best grilled cheeses I have had in a long time. The food Sunday morning was nothing special buffet. The restaurant decided to only offer a buffet (expensive for the offering) instead of the menu. Was told it was because they were short staffed. I only wanted a side not a full breakfast and was not willing to pay 15.00 for a bowl of grits. I asked the server who was super rude and just said no and walked away. So I asked at the front desk about getting just a bowl. I was told they did not deal with restaurant issues and told to get a manager in their area. When I mumbled under my breath, the guy offered to get the mgr. since I was walking on crutches. He left me standing at the door to the kitchen saying she would be right out. After waiting for 5 minutes or so the same server rudely asked me why I was at the door and what was I waiting for. Nice. Then finally the mgr. came out. Eventually she told me I could go through the buffet line to get just a bowl of grits for $3.00 which was fine. So overall I will only go here if there is an event being held here. It would not be my first choice which is sad. They have a great facility and easy access but the people working there were lacking in Customer Service.
