Better Room / Poorer Service Second Time Around

Went for a birthday party weekend. Our room this time was a very nice first floor room. The refrigerator would not cool so we called maintenance. Great guy reset the system which had gone into a hold cycle after Irma. Quick and helpful. He, the lady in the snack bar, and the bartenders/servers at the Tiki bar were the only good service we had. The Bartender in the main bar was horrible. He was a smart A and very rude, all under the guise of being "funny". He ordered two of the wrong meals for my friends and claimed they told him that was what they wanted. He actually argued with them when they both told him that they did not order what he tried to deliver. When we complained to the bar manager about him we were told she would look into it. Which never happened as he was there the rest of the weekend so we would not go to that bar. The food at our parties was good overall but they were running out of items Saturday night and not bussing the tables to keep them clear, so dirty china was everywhere........ The food at the snack grill was great, one of the best grilled cheeses I have had in a long time. The food Sunday morning was nothing special buffet. The restaurant decided to only offer a buffet (expensive for the offering) instead of the menu. Was told it was because they were short staffed. I only wanted a side not a full breakfast and was not willing to pay 15.00 for a bowl of grits. I asked the server who was super rude and just said no and walked away. So I asked at the front desk about getting just a bowl. I was told they did not deal with restaurant issues and told to get a manager in their area. When I mumbled under my breath, the guy offered to get the mgr. since I was walking on crutches. He left me standing at the door to the kitchen saying she would be right out. After waiting for 5 minutes or so the same server rudely asked me why I was at the door and what was I waiting for. Nice. Then finally the mgr. came out. Eventually she told me I could go through the buffet line to get just a bowl of grits for $3.00 which was fine. So overall I will only go here if there is an event being held here. It would not be my first choice which is sad. They have a great facility and easy access but the people working there were lacking in Customer Service.

Hotel Manager, Steve, Saved the Day after Hurricane Irma!

As a local resident in the Pinellas Point area we are very familiar with the Magnuson Hotel as many family and friends have stayed there over the years. It used to be called the "Sheraton" years ago and many of the locals joined their pool club because of the gorgeous pools and meticulous kept grounds. But this review is not about a vacation visit, but their providing a "port in the storm." I mean that literally too! I want to publicly THANK Steve, and his entire staff, who moved mountains to find accommodations for my elderly mother who lost power after hurricane Irma. Although the hotel was completely full he found space for her which shows his dedication to customer service as well as watching out for his neighbors! I learned he and his staff worked very long hours before, during and after the storm to try and maintain as much normalcy for the guests who were already stressed out from fleeing hotel after hotel to get away from the storm as evacuation orders progressed. Steve went above and beyond in listening to what the pressing issues were and provided leadership in getting the job done. Most importantly, he empowered his staff to problem solve which streamlines future complaints. I know they were short staffed during the week of 9/10/17-9/15/17, but I want them to know their attention to detail did not go unnoticed and I would recommend this hotel to anyone who wants to feel at "home." Fishing tournament

This was a very nice place to stay especially after our hurricane Irma. The room was very large very clean large bathroom and the staff was great everyone was helpful the pools were clean and there were two would recommend

Funky odor of sulfur

Had a good stay here at the Magnuson Hotel. Our room was ok and seemed to be clean. Location is good. Staff is friendly.Pool was clean and near our room.The only thing that bothered me was the constant smell of sulfur which we smelled around the hotel and in our room for two days 😷🤢.

Fine hotel for a fair price

Fine hotel for a fair price, location is good and nearby the highway. When we checking in we get a free upgrade for a better room😀 the pools are nice and clean. The bar at the beach is a nice place to sit and wait till the sun goes down. The people are friendly and helpful. We recommend this hotel👍🏽.
