Overview
Footsteps away from the Gulf of Mexico, there is so much to do on Florida's west coast. Soak in the rays on the beach, then go and watch the Rays (the 2008 American League champion Tampa Bay Rays, that is) play ball at nearby Tropicana Field. Everything you need is within walking distance: shopping, dining, cruises and much more. After a hard day's work doing to town, enjoy all the amenities the Sunset Vistas offers. An outdoor pool is the centrepiece of the tropical courtyard. Some locals believe there lies a treasure chest left behind by John LeVeque, a French explorer who then became a pirate. Just another exciting way to spend your trip in sunny St. Petersburg.

Location: Located on the beach at Treasure Island, 47km from Tampa Int'l Airport.

Great Place to Stay

My family and I visited Treasure Island, FL for the first time in October 2017 and I did a tremendous amount of research on Sunset Vistas before our visit to see if it would fit our needs. We were overall satisfied with our stay. For those of you who are like me and need to research your fingers to bone before committing, here is my detailed review:I decided on Sunset Vistas because we knew we wanted: 1) a very short walk to the beach, 2) a room with a fantastic ocean view (gulf front), 3) the highest floor possible, 4) two bedrooms, and 5) a full kitchen. Sunset Vistas really checked all of our boxes when it came to amenities in and outside of the room and price, compared to other facilities in the area. Then, we decided to splurge on the Junior Penthouse because it guaranteed us a gulf front room on the highest floor (sixth floor).We loved having the nice big kitchen with full-size appliances, and even a blender! The kitchen saved us money by eating breakfast and lunch in the condo. The counters were a nice faux granite style with a large breakfast bar attached. There were plenty of dishes and pots and pans available for basic cooking. Side note –salt and pepper not provided.As I understand it, the two-bedroom units throughout the Sunset Vistas facility are almost all the very same layout. We found the master bedroom to be just big enough, with a king bed and a nice sliding door to the balcony. The second bedroom was very tight, and it was off the kitchen with no view. There was just enough room to shuffle around the bed to get in and out. However, they did have TVs in both bedrooms as well as the living area, so that was nice.I read many reviews for Sunset Vistas that mentioned a lack of cleanliness in the rooms. I would agree that there was an overall outdated feel to the facility and definitely an over-used feel to the rooms. When I’m on vacation, I don’t want to be reminded about how many hundreds or thousands of people have used this room and bathroom, and a few times that fact was brought back to the forefront of my mind. For example, the corners of the bathroom had black marks and the shower had chipping caulk along the bottom. The toilet roll holder attached to the vanity had been moved and re-mounted about 4 times (you could see each of the former screw marks). Walls looked patched and painted and patched again. Again, it wasn’t necessarily unclean as much as it was very used. Also, they only offer towel service every twodays, but we got towels and toilet paper from the front desk when we needed it.The parking lot was incredibly full all the time, I assume because the rooms were all rented out. Each room has an assigned parking spot, so it did not inconvenience us at all.We enjoyed the beach very much! There is a company that rents lounge chairs and umbrellas by the day (until 5:00pm). They charge $20 per umbrella and $5 per lounge chair. The convenience and comfort were well worth the price. What amazed us the most was that the beach was NEVER busy. We always had plenty of room between our group and nearby groups, so it never felt crowded.Pros:• VERY close to the beach. Proximity to the beach was my primary focus as I searched for a condo since my mother is older and can’t do much walking. The elevator from the West building with “gulf front” rooms is only 10 steps from the boardwalk to the beach. It was absolutely wonderful for my mom!• Large kitchen• Balcony• Great gulf front view from master bedroom and living area (though it is slightly angled and not square with the ocean).• Only 5 minutes from Publix grocery store• Can rent umbrella and chairs on the beach every day• Convenient assigned parking spot• They have a bin of free beach toys for guests to borrow, including blow up rafts, boogie boards, etc.• For $25 they allowed us to check out at 1:00pm instead of 11:00am• Tiki bar attached to the facility (We didn’t try anything)• Beach was not busy and allowed plenty of peace and quietCons:• The WiFi is absolutely terrible. Plan on using data the whole time.• Rooms could be updated, repaired, and cleaned better• The living room couch and chair were made out of cheap pleather plastic – not ideal in 95 degree weather. We had to put flat sheets over the furniture so we didn’t stick to it• The clothes dryer was not functioning properly• The landline phone in the room did not work (We didn't discover these last two issues until our last evening. The front desk offered to send a repairman, but it wasn't worth the imposition at that point).

Dont visit the cafe onsite

Lovely position right on the beach front, check is staff efficient very friendly.Rooms and whole place clean, pool adequate, Views nice,Stayed in Sept so was a little slow, hence Tiki bar open sporadically. We have stayed on this coats many times but a first at this place, A new Bubba gump and hooters have opened just down the way at Johns Pass.Hotel itself i would recommend, but not the cafe service, the girl working in there was constantly complaining how she was working on her own, moan moan, it wasnt even busy in there. We asked where the sauces were for the hotdogs, she barked that every time she puts them away someone want them. I asked if it was closing time she said yes at 5pm, the time was almost 4pm Lol. The next day we thought wed try again and 6 of us ordered food, had it thrown at us after listening her rants again about her being busy(there were 9 people incl us), no please, no thanks nothing. OH and surprise surprise, 18% tip was included already, typical.Go out for food is all I can say.;

Great for families - right on the beach

We stayed in room 201W at the end of September and had a very positive experience. A few things to know / keep in mind.PROS* The hotel is great for families. There is a wonderful kiddie pool with fountains, that is a good size so there is plenty of room. The area is gated in, and also contains a small hot tub so mom and dad can get a quick dip while the kids play. One negative is that we did have to keep telling our youngest not to play by the hot tub, but overall we enjoyed it being in the same area. The larger pool has two entries into the shallow end, so it was roomy and there was plenty of "play space".* They have a "freebie" box where guests can leave beach and pool toys that they are no longer needing, and take what they need. We borrowed a few pool noodles, and some beach toys from the box to use for the week.* The pools were kept clean* The beach access is very convenient. You can wheel a stroller out there, although you really have to push in the dry sand!* The rooms are laid out nicely. Ours was a 2 bedroom. There is a washer and dryer in the room, and a nice sized closet / pantry where we kept our beach toys. Normally they just clutter up the doorway, but I loved having a place to keep them.* The staff was very attentive. I was a little worried about this, because the receptionists when I would call in sometimes seemed like my call was an inconvenience. But I was pleasantly surprised by their friendliness in person.* There isn't a daily housekeeping service, but if we ran out of towels or dish soap, I would just ring the front desk and someone was always there almost immediately.* The rooms were clean and modern feelingCONS* We had to pay $5 a night for a Pack N Play, plus tax. We could almost buy one for that price.* The hotel does not offer high chairs* The hotel does not recycle* The "ocean front" rooms almost felt like a side view because of the way the balcony was angled. You are ocean front, but the front of the hotel makes a "V"...so you are a little angled to the side. I didn't care for that. * The public restrooms for the pool are on the second floor. Which was right by our room. It didn't turn out to be an issue, but I could see during busier times that there could be a lot of traffic in that area.* Housekeeping comes every other day to exchange towels and trash. Since we cooked all 3 meals a day in our room, it would have been nicer to have daily trash service* The rooms were clean, but not pristine. We found a peanut on our floor, a gummy bear, and there were dirty pans in our cabinet that looked like they had been used. When I called the front desk about the pans, they immediately brought me a new set, however, which was satisfactory to me.* The dishwasher left a horrible residue on the dishes. I called to see about a rinse aid, but they did not have oneOverall, I would highly recommend this property. It was a very enjoyable experience!

Hurricane Help

My family and I stayed at Sunset Vista after hurricane Irma. Even though it was not the best weather, and everyone seemed stressed, the staff was amazing! We had booking assistance from Kathi and George, and welcomed with a warm smile by Christine. Even the cleaning crew asked us every day if we were ok or needed anything. Always a smile by everyone there. Eventually the pool and the beaches opened up and we got to enjoy the rest of our forced retreat. We will definitely be back soon!
